intermittent operation then completely stopped
Unplugged microwave from wall outlet removed the cover with standard phillips #2 screwdriver and tamper proof screw bit driver. For safety shorted across capacitor with insulated needle nose pliers to discharge.
With P2 screwdriver removed 2 latch board screws and rotated latch board to access switches. Even though only the bottom primary interlock switch was mechanically broken, I replaced the upper primary interlock switch also. With a DVM I checked the middle switch which tested good. The old switches can be carefully removed from the latch board by slightly bending the lock tabs and unplugging them, installation is the reverse of removal. I tested the release button and latch mechanism before replacing the cover. I tested the microwave only with the cover on for safety. Parts arrived quickly and easy repair on an 18 year old reliable microwave. A year ago, I replaced the magnetron, capacitor and diode on the same unit which did not heat.

The unit would run when the door was open!
First I had to accept the fact that the unit was designed to keep non-professional people from doing any repairs. The switch was installed in such a manner that I had to break the mounting to remove the switch, then drill a hole in the mounting to secure the new switch in place.

Door Switch went bad, Internal Fan would run every time you open the door
Unscrewed the control panel (2 screws), lift up and let hang, with a plan screwdriver open bracket holding the switch, unplug 2 wires, replace with new switch, plug in the 2 wires, push switch back into bracket. Then slide on the control panel, put the 2 screws back. Easy fix.

Turntable Stopped Working/Display Timer Would Countdown But Not Heat
With this model, you must remove the outer covering. Don't try to access the display unit from the front like I've seen in some other GE microwave videos. After removing the outer covering, the switches are easy to replace. They are very visible and easy to get to without taking any other parts off. You will see the door switches just behind the display board. Remove the switch and then remove the connecting wires to ensure you don't inadvertently brake a wire. You will need a tamper resistant star bit to remove 3 or 4 screws from the back panel. All other screws are philips head. I went ahead and replaced both switches (yes...there are two of them) and works like a charm. I saved an $800 microwave for less than $60 and know what to do if it happens again. Appears to be a common problem on this model. Thanks for others making a post...It saved me time and money reading others remarks. Good luck!

Opened door to get food put more food in closed door it wouldnt work
Everything worked on the display light inside worked but when you closed the door and set time it would start counting down but not heating nor would the turntable turn. Started reading troubleshooting chart and first thing I did was removed the cover and checked door switches and found primary door switch wasn't working so I ordered a new one installed it and it worked. Anyone doing this has to be very careful because of the stored energy in the capacitor is strong enough to kill.
My micro is only 2 years old so I was hoping it wasn't anything major.

Bad door switch and divide
Remove upper grill, then control panel, then 2 screws hold door switch mounting bracket, that will let you roll the switches out to work on them. Remove each switch by carefully pushing back retainer clips. Diode a long pair of needlenose pliers is helpful. The control board in front of capacitor comes out with a flat screwdriver and pry up. Removing grnd wires helps

Microwave just went totally dead. No lights or anything. Thoughts?
For model number HVM1540DM1BB
PartSelect logo
Hello Tony, Thanks for your question. It would be a good idea to test part number PS237015, the primary interlock door switch, for continuity using a multi-meter. If that test is positive, the most likely cause is the thermal fuse, part number PS239525. Remember to have the microwave unplugged and to have the capacitor discharged prior to testing or replacing the thermal fuse, as the thermal fuse can store a large amount of electricity even after your microwave is unplugged. Wear an insulated glove and use a screw driver with with an insulated handle to siphon out the excess electricity of your capacitor. I hope this helps.

How to take the old primary switch off without breaking the holder?
For model number JES1451DS1WW
PartSelect logo
Hi Bryan, Thank you for your question. Before you begin any repair please unplug the appliance from the electrical outlet. Use a Phillips head screw driver to unthread the screws securing the grill. With the screws removed, open the microwave oven door then the slide the grill to the left and lift it up to remove. Next remove the control panel mounting screw then lift the control panel up to detach. Then remove the screw holding the inner access panel and then release the panel from the retaining clips. Now remove the screws holding the switch assembly. Depress the release tab and the actuator to detach the switch you are replacing. Disconnect the wire connector to fully release the old switch. Install the new door switch by first connecting the wire connector. Now position the new switch in the assembly snap it into place. Realign the switch assembly on the frame and secure it with the screws. Reinstall the inner access panel securing it with the screw. Now insert the control panel tabs to the slots in the frame and push the panel down. Secure it with the mounting screw. Insert the tabs of the grill into the frame and slide it to the right. Shut the oven door and then secure the grill with the screws. Plug the power cord back in and the microwave should now work. I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!

For model number JNM1541SM4SS

Hi Joe, Thank you for the questions. In order to get to the switches you will need to remove the outside cabinet and grille vent. You will be able to see where the screw is holding the control panel in place. Once the panel is removed you can have access to the door switches. Hope this helps!

How do i get into the panel where the door latch switch is at? I can't even get the outside cover to come off.....or the bottom with all the screws out. my microwave is running when i open the door.
For model number JES1451DS1BB

Hello Paula, thank you for contacting us. You can remove the top panel of the microwave, then there may be just one screw to remove the control panel. Then you can remove the old switch, just disconnect the wires and pull it out, then just snap in the new switch and connect the wires. Hope this helps!

I can get the oven to power on momentarily by putting upward pressure on the closed door. Sometimes it will remain on. This is without entering commands on the control panel. Do you think that replacing the interlock switches will solve this problem?
For model number JES2051SN3SS
PartSelect logo
Hello David, thank you for your question. Yes, we would recommend replacing the switches and checking over the interlock (the part the switches are mounted into) to be sure it hasn't shifted from its position. I hope this helps!

Hello, The unit starts running when the door opens. Which switch is the one I need? Door interlock or monitor? How do I reach them? Via removing front panel or does the entire unit have to be removed from the cabinet? PEB1590SM2SS Thank you!
For model number PEB1590SM2SS
PartSelect logo
Hi Doug, thank you for reaching out. Based on our research, the most probable cause of this issue is a faulty primary door interlock switch, part number PS237015. To access this part, you may need to first disconnect the power and open the door. Then, remove the outer cover by unthreading the screws, and remove the control panel. You can then access the door latch assembly to replace the faulty switch. We hope this helps!
