Water inlet valve was leaking
First I shut off the water to the fridge, unscrewed back panel of fridge, removed water lines and re-cut ends, removed old pump with nut driver, and disconnected electrical lines, installed water lines on new pump and turned on the water to make sure there were no leaks, reinstalled electrical lines and mounted new pump with new brackets that came in the kit, ran the water on the front of the fridge to purge out the air in the lines, reinstalled back panel and put fridge back into place.

Ice Maker quite making Ice
I first verified that the icemaker unit itself was functioning. I did this by opening the frezzer door and pushing the light switch in, and lifting the cover to "watch" the icemaker. After a few minutes, the icemaker cycled---by that I mean the the plastic "forks' which "push" the cubes out, rotated. This, to me indicated that the gears and motor of the icemaker was working. Upon inspection, however, there no water was being dispensed into the "ice tray". Other sites indicated that the water tube can and do ice up, preventing water from being introduced to the tray. I saw no evidence of this---which indicated to me a bad water inlet valve (which is solenoid operated). The valve is located in the bottom rear of the refrigerator, behind a removable panel. Replacement is straight forward---remove an replace old unit, and your back in business!

I assume the water inlet valve provides water to both the in door water source and the ice maker. The in door water source still works, but no water filled the ice tray. Is it possible that only the solenoid to the ice maker failed? How can i tell if the ice maker itself still works? Can i pour some water in the tray to see if it ejects when frozen?
For model number GC3PHEXNB00

Hi Lee, Thank you for your inquiry. You would be correct. The water valve has two solenoids for each part of your fridge. It could be that the ice maker solenoid has failed. You can test your valve with a multi-meter. You can also test your icemaker to see if it is working or not. Using an insulated wire. There are two holes at the bottom right hand side of the wheel on your ice maker. Place each side of the insulated wire inside the holes. This should make the white wheel start to turn. If it does not, then your ice maker is broken. Make sure that your wire is insulated so that you do not get an electric shock. There are also two holes (farther apart) on the left hand side of that wheel. If you place the wire in each of those holes it should call up water from your valve. If it does not, then your know that your valve is bad as well. If you do not feel comfortable with a repair like this, I would suggest contacting a repair technician to help you. Good luck with your repair.

How do you pull the water hoses off and back on?
For model number X74QC1

Hello Tom, that is a great question. You will push in the little quick connects on the water valve (blue and yellow) and pull the water line out at the same time. Hope this helps!

Water previously froze up-had to thaw & it worked well for awhile. Now water is overflowing & freezing outside icemaker. What do i replace fill valve & or ice makerthanks
For model number GC5SHEXNB00

Hi Pete, Thank you for your inquiry. If the icemaker is overflowing with water it is likely the water inlet valve, but I would check both to be certain. I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!

How many ohms should i be reading across the contacts on the water inlet solenoids.
For model number ED5FHGXKQ02
PartSelect logo
Hello, Thank you for your inquiry. Set your multimeter to the R X 1 ohms setting to test for continuity. Place each of the multimeter's leads on a terminal. Your multimeter should display a reading between 200 and 500 ohms. Closely examine your water inlet valve. The exact ohm resistance rating you should test for may be marked on the valve. However, if your test produces a reading of infinity, then the solenoid is bad and the water valve should be replaced. Hope this helps!

You answered question about how to tell if the icemaker or the fill valve is bad and talked about using an insulated wire in holes at the bottom of icemaker. This was for a gc3phexnb00. I have the model above and don't see any holes. Can you help out. Also, where is the fill valve on my model??? there is no video for that. thanks!

Hello Dave, Thank you for your inquiry. The water inlet valve for this model is located in almost the same place as the one in the other model you mentioned. The water goes from the water inlet valve to the ice mold. The ice maker for this model part# 2198597 does have an installation video, but you are correct, it does not have holes in the bottom. You can test both the ice maker and the water inlet valve with a multimeter. Hope this helps!

My water dispenser leaks intermittently. I have replaced water filter. Have replaced water dispenser kit. Have tried replacing water valve, but, valve does not fit correctly, because, i get a leak from the new one, never from the old valve. Do you have any suggestions as to what may be the cause for the intermittent leak?
For model number KSCS25INWH01
PartSelect logo
Hi Antonio, Thank you for your question. The only parts that I could think of would be your valve or perhaps the water tubing up to your dispenser itself? You may have to contact your manufacturer or a certified technician to come in and look at your appliance to be sure. It seems like you have checked most of the parts that would cause the issue. Perhaps checking to see if all of the solenoids on your water valve are working and the tubing is fine would be your best next step. I hope that helps. Good luck with your repair.

I replaced my water valve in the lower back of my fridge. It's now making ice! However, afterwards, there was a burning smell in my kitchen. I aired it out, and it didn't return. Any thoughts?
For model number PartSelect Number PS2367038
PartSelect logo
Hi Brendan, Thank you for your question. If there was a burning smell in the kitchen shortly after you installed the water inlet valve, inspect the valve for any scorching or burn marks. Check the wiring attached to the water inlet valve also. If the water inlet valve is fine, you will need to inspect the other parts in the refrigerator for signs of scorching or burn marks. If you have any questions, please let us know. We are open 7 days a week. We look forward to hearing from you!

The ice maker will make ice, but then will quit after a few days. The tray fills with water and freezes, but does not eject (even after several days). So I remove the ice maker, let the ice thaw, replace it, and put a small amount of water in the tray and it starts working again. Then after a few days, it quits, tray is filled and frozen but does not eject. Any thoughts on that?
For model number GC3PHEXNB00

Hi Lee, Thank you for the question. Sounds like the Emitter and Receiver Boards might be defective. These boards tells the icemaker when it's full and that it has to dump the ice, and it also tells the icemaker when to refill with water. If the boards are defective the ice maker will not know when it is full. Hope this helps!

Lots of water on kitchen floor, water inside freezer. Ice maker not working anymore. I tested the water inlet valve and one solenoid doesn't have ohms and the other does. Water dispenser on door works. So this tells me after watching your video that i need to replace the water inlet valve. But i also tested the ice maker by inserting a jumper in the t & h holes and it doesn't cycle on. Does this mean that i also need to replace the ice maker?
For model number ASD2522WRW01
PartSelect logo
Hi Ron, Thank you for your question. I would not say that you would have to replace your ice maker as well. If your water inlet valve tested bad, then that should be the only part that you would need to replace. Good luck with your repair.

Ice maker is making ice fine - but was dripping just a little into the tray and making cubes stick together, now it is making a small block of cubes together in the tray - seems to be getting worse. Do i need whole new ice maker or just a water control valve.
For model number GT1PHWXPB00
PartSelect logo
Hi Daryl, Thank you for your inquiry. Based on what you described you will need to check both the ice maker and the water inlet valve to see which part is causing the issue. I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!
