Maybe 19 times out of 20, when we open the door the light doesn't turn on. When this is happening, the microwave won't work. You type in the cook time, hit start and it beeps at you. If you leave the door open for a few minutes the light will come on and then you can use it. Does this sound like a door switch?
For model number KMHS120ESS
Hi Jason, Thank you for your question. If your microwave is not coming on, there are some parts that you will need to check to see which one is causing the issue. You will need to check the fuse, the door switches, the light socket, the interlock support and the interlock. I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!

Sometimes when you shut the door the light stays on, and the fan continues to run. You have to open and close it pretty hard to turn it off. Also if you don't close the door hard enough it says door not shut.

Which door switch do i need to replace if the unit doesn't recognize when the door is open or closed? The problem is intermittent, so i'm pretty sure it is the switch and not the fuse. I don't want to buy all the switches - i just need to know which one is the culprit - upper or lower?? thank you!
For model number KMHS120ESS-4
Hello Greg, Thank you for your question. The door switch you need to replace for your model is under part PS10057151 for your model. Hope this helps!

Microwave says door close when it is already closed? And fan seems to be running as though door is open?
For model number MMV4205FZ1
Hello Gina, Thank you for the question. This normally indicates one or more of the Door Switches are defective and will need to be replaced. We suggest testing the switches with a multi meter and check the continuity. We hope this helps.

When i attempt to use the microwave i repeatedly get the message open/close door and when i do this the heating power is still not activated and the open/close message reappears. We have replace the mechanism in the door once already. Could this be the problem again?
For model number ywmh53520ch-0
Hi Don, Thank you for your question. Here is some information from the Whirlpool website, that you may reference to try and resolve this issue, "If "Door" or "Open/Close" is appearing on your Whirlpool microwave display, there are things you can do to troubleshoot. If a message about the door appears in the display, the door has been closed for 5 minutes or more without the microwave oven being started. This occurs to avoid unintended starting of the microwave oven. Open and close the door, then start the cycle. Next, check the follow things to make sure the door is closing correctly: Check to make sure there is no soil build up on the door contact area Remove all packing material from the Microwave. Be sure no packing material is blocking the door lock system. If you have a counter top microwave, place the microwave oven on a flat and level surface that will not block the opening or closing of the microwave oven door. Check that the cooking rack (if equipped) is not out of position and not allowing the door to close. Close the door firmly." I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!

The top door switch went over the center and the main breaker blew. I opened the front control panel and accessed the top switch to correct the problem with latch. After replacing everything, all is fine but when the door is opened it blows the breaker again. Is the problem in one of the door switches?
For model number YWMH31017AS1
Hello Bob, Thanks for your question. This may be an issue with the wiring to the microwave or the circuit breaker itself, but if not, the door switches are definitely worth reviewing. Have a service technician test and replace the parts if needed as they can carry high amounts of electricity even with the microwave unplugged. I hope this helps.

I replaced the bottom door switch and it still does not come on. The light on the inside stays on all the time, and also the turntable moves when the door is open. Can you help me?
For model number AMV2307PFS0
Hello Albert, Thanks for your question. It could instead be one of the other door switches causing this issue, as there are three total for your model. Only a licensed technician should attempt to install or test these parts, as they can contain an electrical charge even after the microwave is unplugged. I hope this helps.

Door switch inconsistent operation for Open/Close sensing.
Ordered top & bottom micro-switches and mounting plate parts. Internet reviews could not find specifics if the issue was due to a top/bottom or combination of micro-switch or mounting plate failure. Pulled the plug. Removed the top vent assembly cover held in by 2 Phillips screws inside the vent. Removed the control panel held in by 1 Phillip screw at the top vent assembly area. Lifted control panel upward to release the catch and moved it off to the side - didn't disconnect any leads. Used a Torx bit to remove the door switch mounting plates at the front and pulled the plates through the opening from the control panel. Documented the wire color code connections, the top plate uses 2 micro's with one using both the closed & open contact. Installed the respective micros on the mounting plates and worked backwards with the wiring and removal steps. Once completed, the open/close sensing has worked every time.

Door open message...interior light not working when door opened....microwave would not work
Removed top vent panel....black plastic runs the length of the microwave....3 Phillips screws. Removed front right panel one Phillip screw on top right. Lift up to remove lifts off the catches. Unplug some of plug connectors on the back of the control circuit board to have room to swing it out of the way to gain access to the interlock switches. Take pictures of all disconnections and wire connectors removed from switches. There or two interlock banks of switches my problem was the top one. Remove the switch bracket held in with one star drive screw and a plastic catch on the switch bracket actuator...there is a slot in the frame the actuator slides into. Replace switches and reverse procedure to reassemble.

Door close wasnt registering and the microwave wouldn't turn on.
I looked up a YouTube video of someone with a similar over the oven microwave. That helped me get into the area behind the control panel where the door switches are. I checked the springs and the cam rocker? The thing that actually hits the button on the switch when the door closes. They were in good condition so I assumed the door switch was bad. There are two so I just purchased one figuring (hoping) that only one was bad. And lo and behold only one was bad. Bing bam boom. Put it all back together and I'm set. Not too difficult. Took a week of work because it takes like 50 days to ship. My kitchen looked like a hurricane after image because of all the parts scattered everywhere.
