My Kenmore dishwasher quit running after about 8 years of service and it would not start up again. We hand-washed dishes for over 10 months and drip-dried them in the busted machine.
Got on line at PartSelect and provided the requested Model and Serial numbers. I also used YouTube to "armchair" diagnose the symptoms and reviewed several suggested fixes. Our "touch panel" containing all the control buttons had deteriorated over the years, and I speculated that this panel could be the problem. Since the dishwasher is a few years old and has had heavy use, I also assumed that the thermal sensor would be bad, or at least at the end of its life. Since one LED on the control panel still worked, I knew the unit had power going through it. So I removed the upper latching mechanism and touch panel screws and pulled the panel apart to inspect it for signs of burning, corrosion and possible deterioration. The electronics looked good so I cut the power at my main household electrical panel and proceeded to disassemble and unsnap the inside covers. Then I disconnected two electrical connectors and carefully unfastened the electronics ribbon. I snipped two wires leading to the thermal fuse, replaced them with a new sensor (spliced the two wire feeders with electric nuts) and put that back in place. Then I snapped the new touch control panel back together, replaced the protective cover, and the screws I had removed. I re-energized the house electric panel and-- WALA --the dishwasher sprung back to life! I'm probably slow and methodical, but it took me about 30 minutes to disassemble and reassemble the unit with the new parts. It's great to have the machine back in service, and the tab was only about $160.

No power to control
0) assure main power was off
1) Opened up the panel assembly according to the instructions and the partselect video using the torx driver.
2) snipped the wires from the old part
3) patched in the new part by twisting the wire ends, inserting them into the assembly and tightening the screws.

Had my dishwasher up and running again within 15 minutes.

Control panel stopped working-wouldn't light up.
After doing some research on the Kitchen Aid issues. I turned off the breaker. Remove the (6) #15 Torx bit screws from the inside upper panel and removed the outside control panel. I located the Bi-Metal Fuse. I turned the breaker back on.Took a Electric Meter and it showed power only on one side. I order the part (BI-Metal Fuse) from the company. Turned the breaker off to there dishwasher. Very easy to install. I cut and trim the (2) wires. Match the black wire with the white stripe to the exact same color code and do the same for the all black wire. Install one wire at a time and tighten down with a small pocket screw driver. Then use the plastic tie straps to secure the (Bi-Metal Fuse).Turn the breaker back on. You are good to go.

Absolutely no power to the unit.
I went on line and saw a video mentioning it may be the fuse and in order to verify that, take piece of scrap wire and jump pass the fuse.If the lights come on then its the fuse,I did and it was.So I found your web site, typed in the word fuse and the part number came up w/ your video showing how to install it. It was GREAT and what a great idea too having the video available w/ the part! I killed the power and I unscrewed the screws and placed them in the pattern they came out of because some are longer than others. I supported the front cover with my knee and had found the wires in advance so I knew which ones to cut, strip and screw into the new replacement part.I replaced it back in the snap on fuse holder and re-screwed it back together starting with the latch ones, using a criss cross pattern like on a tire. And that was that...I will DEFINITELY use this site again...........hopefully not for a while! Thanks so much.

No lights on control panel. Would not operate.
Trouble shoot the problem by checking the Bi-Metal fuse for continuity. You must isolate fuse from circuit and have no power going to the machine. Found fuse open. Replaced with new unit from parts select in accordance with their instructions. Machine now working fine. Suspect fuse becomes bad over time due to current across it. A $28 dollar fix. thank You

Hello Richard, thank you for contacting us. It does sound like the fuse has blown and would need to be replaced. This part is used as a safety device to protect the dishwasher circuit from overload. If the breaker was hot it could of been drawing more amps then it should and tripped the fuse. Hope this helps!

Hi, i have no power to my dishwasher. The gfi works fine and all wires are hooked up correctly. Any suggestions on which parts i may need? Thank you .
For model number GU2475XTVY1
PartSelect logo
Hello Tim, thank you for your question. If the receptacle that the dishwasher is plugged into is receiving the correct volatge, the issue is probably with the Bi-Metal Fuse W10258275, or the Electronic Control Board part number WPW10285179. I would try replacing the fuse first, as that is the more common issue. I hope this helps!

My dishwasher will not start. The 'clean' light on the panel has been steadily blinking. Can you help?
For model number mdb4709aws4
PartSelect logo
Hello Jim, Thanks for your question. This blinking clean light indicates that there is an issue going on. Look at the heating element and test it with a multimeter for continuity; replace it if it shows no continuity. Test the bi-metal fuse as well and the high limit thermostat. I hope this helps.

When I try to start my dishwasher by pressing the normal or heavy wash, the heated dry light comes on. When I push the start button, nothing happens. Can you help?
For model number MDB7749AWM2
PartSelect logo
Hello Travis, Thanks for your question. The bi-metal thermal fuse is a potential (and most probable) cause, along with the door latch and the capacitor. All of these parts can be tested with a multimeter to see if they have continuity. Replace them if they do not show continuity. I hope this helps.

The control panel's normal, steam clean, & heated dry lights are glowing, but the machine will not start. Any suggestions?
For model number MDB7749AWW1
PartSelect logo
Hello Rosie, Thanks for your question. The bi-metal fuse is the most common issue for this type of symptom. Use a multimeter to test the fuse for continuity and replace it if it is not showing continuity. Secondly, test the door switch for continuity as well and replace it if it is not showing continuity. Afterwards, check the door latch to see if it is broken. If all of the above parts are functioning, consider replacing the control board or the control panel. I hope this helps.

Hello, i cant get the dishwasher to start. None of the cycles will work. Some of the options when pressed will light up. Any suggestions? Thank you.
For model number MDB4709AWB1
PartSelect logo
Hi Warren, Thank you for your question. If the dishwasher is not starting, there are some parts that you will need to check to see which ones are causing the issue. You will need to check the bi-metal defrost thermostat, the heating element, the door switch, high limit thermostat and the electronic control board. I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!

My dishwasher quit working in the middle of a cycle. It is on the clean cycle button, it blinks 7 times for 7 seconds. Stops for 2 seconds and starts again. What could the problem be?
For model number gu2300xtvq1
PartSelect logo
Hi Barbara, Thank you for your question. If the dishwasher is stopping in the middle of a cycle, check to see if the door is latching correctly. Also check the circuit breaker in your home to see if it has been tripped. If these are not the issues causing the dishwasher to shut off, then you will need to check door latch assembly, the electronic control board, the dishwasher control panel, the heating element and the vent and fan assembly. I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!

Our kitchen aid dishwasher has lost all lights on the control panel and consequently will not start. The machine was not running at the time and the circuit breaker has been reset. What part is most likely the issue.
For model number kudc03fvss4
PartSelect logo
Hello Kris, Thank you for the question. The most likley issue would be the fuse, PartSelect Number: PS2360984. If the fuse did not fix the issue the Electronic Control Board, Part Number: PS11752013 may be defective. Hope this helps, good luck with this repair!

Hi, following the instructions on the video I removed the bi-metal fuse and checked with a ohm meter and it tested fine. All the buttons come on when pushed except the delay and the start. Machine won't start. What else may cause this?
For model number MDBH949AWQ1
PartSelect logo
Hi Ray, Thank you for the question. It sounds like the issue could be with the touch pad. When some of the buttons work and others do not, it is normally an issue with the control panel with the touch pad. Hope this helps!
