Can the black plastic insert be purchased separately for the top exhaust trim piece?

Hello ,Thank you for your question. Unfortunately the grille is not sold separate it is all one piece. However the black grille is not being sold any longer and we cannot get it, I apologize. There are no part substitutions listed. My suggestion here would be to call the manufacturer and see if they can provide you with a substitution for these part numbers. We hope this helps.

Brittle, plastic mounts broke,Vent fell when cleaning
Removed remaining plastic around 2 screws. I recommend a Magnetic Phillips Screwdriver, screw holes are a little Offset, and mount screws are small. I used Needle Nose Pliers to hold screw, to get it started. Really simple install.

Took this great-grandmother of 7 less than 3 minutes. Only needed a Phillips screwdriver. Easy as pie!

Plastic holders cracked causing the Vent Grill to completely separate from th Microwave.
Repair took kess than 5 munutes.. Align plastic guides for the Screws and using a Philips screwdriver commence to tightening same .

Easy fix
The part is held in place with two screws. A poor design for sure. The replacement part is a direct fit once the two screws are removed. Reuse the same screws, don't order new ones.

The vent grille brackets were broken.
It's a good thing that the repair/replacement is easy, because this is the 3rd time that I have had to replace the vent grill. They are very cheaply constructed and KitchenAid should be ashamed to put a product this inferior on the market. Both the microwave and stove are a constant source of problems and repairs. I was amzed at the quick service and delivery. The vent grill was ordered on Monday and arrived Wednesday. GREAT SERVICE! Kitchen Aide should take notice.

The 2 molded plastic holes that accept the bolts broke.
A Phillips screwdriver was all that was needed. A poor design by KitchenAid for only having (2) bolts holding this stainless steel vent grille in a plastic housing, oh well. Don't lean or pull against it to hard or it will most likely break again.

broken plastic attachment for vent grill cover
Replacement of new vent grille took less than 5 minutes. I just wished Kitchen Aid made a product that lasted longer than 3 years. My part arrived very quickly, less than a week. Service was great and so was your price. I had no problem locating a replacement part. Kitchen Aid would not give me the parts number so I did not know if I was order the right part. But you photo really helped to narrow the correct part. Thanks

Vent above microwave fell off
It was so so easy. Took the two screws out, lined the new vent up with the holes, screwed the screws back in. Done!!!

Easy repair
This was an easy fit because the failure that occurred on the original occurred on the part and not on the mounting spaces on the microwave; i.e. there are 3 tab slots on the microwave that the bottom of this part fits into (tabs on the part), and there are two screw tabs with sheet metal screw holes on the microwave, and two plastic tabs with screw holes on the part. The screws go through the tabs on the part and tighten on the metal tabs on the microwave.
