The light socket in your microwave houses the light bulb and connects it to the power source. The light bulb will screw into it, so the light bulb will be held in place. Be very careful when installing this part, and be sure to consult your manual before you begin this repair.

Microwave Bulb Socket
Instead of having a service repair man come to my house at the cost of $200. I was able to purchase this socket and install it myself in my microwave. Saved $190 buy doing it myself.

Perfect fit, installed in about 10 minutes. Received the part in a timely manner. The only issue is the cost of shipping, it was $9.95 to ship a part the size of my thumb.

Socket for underside (over-the-cooktop) bulb apparently shorted
Got some info from the PartsSelect web site and a short YouTube video about how to replace the socket. (Even at 74 years old I'll be darned if I'll pay for a service call if I think I can do the repair myself). Unfastened all the panel screws, swung down the rear-hinged lower panel carefully, then took a couple of pictures showing which w

Pried off all the silicone sealer around the socket using my fingers, got the old socket out and replaced it, put the wires back in place, refastened the drop-down panel. It was a very easy, straight-forward task that would have taken <15 minutes were it not for the fact that my old eyes had trouble seeing all the screws, even with a flashlight. Everything works fine now.

MICROWAVE BOTTOM LIGHT BURNED OUT
Simply need a Phillips head screwdriver, remove the screen covering the light bulb. all you need to do is unscrew burned out bulb and screw in the new bulb. Much easier to order the bulb in the socket and pull it out the socket and plug in the new socket and bulb. because you have a limited space to work

Lightbulbs need to replaced. When i removed them, it looks like they broke from the socket. Do i need to replace the socket now?
For model number Whirlpool gold accuwave. 8205195
Hello and thank you for writing.
Yes, the safest way is to replace the socket, as small bits of the bulb left behind could short and damage the unit. We hope this helps. Please contact us anytime if you require further assistance.

My hoodlight bulb burned out i replaced it with a 40w appliance bulb from home depot. After several months that bulb burned out. I replaced it again but now light will not turn off. When the light control button is pushed it shows full/half/off on the panel but light stays on. I replaced the touchpad panel and the light still stays on... help.

About 10 days ago I asked a question about my microwave hood light staying on all the time. The touchpad cycles thru full/half/off but the light stays on. Before contacting you I purchased a new touchpad ($150) and installed it, but the hood light still stayed on. When I contacted you, your recommendation was to replace the light socket. I purchased a new light socket and the problem is still the same that is the hood light stays on all the time. Any further recommendation?

Hi Ron,
Thank you for your question. If the lights are remaining on in the microwave the issue is likely one of the door switches and it will need to be replaced. You will need to test the parts with a multimeter. Here is a link to one of our videos on YouTube that you may use as a general reference on how to use one, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bWC44fHn0As. I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!

Hello, while trying to remove the metal cover under the microwave i disconnected the light socket. While trying to remove the metal cover it came in contact with the light socket. There was a quick spark. When i reattached the light socket and put the light bulb back into the socket, the light did not come back on. Do i need to replace just the light socket or should i also change the wires that lead to the light socket and fan. Both light and fan wires come from one attachment and it looks like i would need to replace the complete attachment. Thank you.

Hello Anthony, thank you for your question. You should only need to replace this Light Socket, part number PS2342199 for your model. If the wires you are referring to are damaged, they are a part of the Wire Harness, part number PS3408060 for your model. Good luck with your repair!

The inner light does not go on upon opening the microwave. As warm up times are selected and start is pushed, prompts come across the time window to close the door and push start. We do that several times and no start. What can we look at to resolve this problem?
Hello Yvonne,
Thanks for your question. This issue is likely due to a bad door switch. The door switch you would need will depend upon your model information.
I hope this helps.
