Product Description

Oven Safety Valve - Natural Gas Specifications

This gas oven safety valve is used in ranges and ovens. The function of the valve is to ensure no gas is released until the igniter has received the proper voltage needed to ignite the gas range, this prevents any safety hazards when cooking or baking. If your device has shorted out and is no longer letting gas out, it is best to replace your safety valve to fix the problem. Remember to unplug your range from the power source before beginning this installation.

Igniter lit but valve wouldn't shift
Take the advice that it's the igniter. Even thought the igniter lights, it doesn't mean it passes the correct current to the valve. Too much or too little won't work. I'd suggest changing the igniter first. I used to be in the valve business, that kind of valve lasts millions of cycles. The igniters on the other hand break down after a5-10 years

Oven not getting hot/no flame no gas.
Step 1. Pull oven out disconnect power, turn off gas & remove gas line from stove.
Step 2. Remove broiler drawer, locate igniter & safety valve.
Step 3. Disconnect 2pin molex connector for igniter and faston connectors from
valve.
Step 4. Use nut driver remove fasteners that hold igniter and valve remove gas line and feed
from valve.
Step 5. Replace valve and igniter.Repeat steps 4-1 and start baking.

Note: You may only need a igniter and not a valve, both were bad on my unit.
Most often it's just the igniter that goes out.

Oven would not light
I found the best was to remove the oven door and the broiller drawer. Then I removed the panel that seperates the two areas. This gave me great access. Next I removed the shield (1 screw) and the burner (3 screws). Then the inlet pipe (don't forget to turn off the gas, as I did). Remove the valve (2 screws)...........Remove the mounting bracket from old valve and install it on the new one. Then it's just a matter of reversing the prior steps and your'e done!

Gas stovetop works fine, "glow plug" glows hot red but no smell of gas. Can we conclude that it is in fact the oven safety valve? Thank you
PartSelect logo
Hi Brent, Thank you for your inquiry. The oven safety valve is one part that may fix the issue, but there are some other parts that you will need to check to see which one is causing the issue. You will need to check the igniter, the electronic control board and the temperature sensor. I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!

Oven doesn't heat. Igniter glows when gas is turned on, voltage on value starts near zero and slowly ramps up to just under 3 volts, but gas never ignites. The slow ramp seems normal to allow igniter to get hot, but not sure what the valve's voltage should be to have it open. Valve coil is not open per ohm meter. Sounds like a bad valve? Thanks.
For model number JGBS23WEA4WW

Hello Curt, Thank you for your inquiry. It sounds like it could be either this part or the pressure regulator. When the ignitor heats up to a certain temperature, it is supposed to trigger the valve to open and let the gas in to ignite and the regulator cuts it off at a certain pressure. Hope this helps!

Hello Steve, thank you for your question. The oven safety valve part number WB19K31 will work with either NAT or LP gas. The part itself can be switched over without any additional parts. Please check your owners manual on steps to change that over. I hope this helps!

In the oven a wire from the igniter shorted (had to pry the wire off the wall) to the frame. Would the control valve or the thermostat also be damaged. Where is the thermostat located on the stove. I noticed that the plastic on one of the knife connection on the control valve was missing
For model number JGBS23BEA2WH

Hello Robert, thank you for writing. It is doubtful that the Oven Safety Valve or Oven Thermostat were also damaged when this occurred. The Oven Thermostat (part PS235170 on your model) is located behind the Manifold Panel (control panel). We hope this helps.
