Easy Repair - Waited Two and One Half Months For Part
The door latch assembly on our GE Profile Microwave broke and we needed two parts for the repair - a Choke Cover and a Door Assembly Pawl. Ordered both on 2/9/19. Received the Choke Cover in about a week. The box arrived with crush marks on it and a few of the plastic securing tabs on the cover were broken off. The Pawl was noted to be ON ORDER, which according to the Part Select website, means the part should ship in 5-7 business days. after that time period passed and no part delivery, I called. The rep gave us a 2 week expansion of the original time frame. That also passed and I called again. And got another extension. In fact, I can't recall exactly how many times I ended up calling when the part failed to show up, but I always received the same answer - "it will be in our warehouse on (you pick the date). During one of our last calls, we were told the part would arrive sometime in June (that's right - June). BUT, lo and behold, without any notice it showed up about two days later. The pawl was in good shape and, despite the missing securing tabs on the cover, I finally made the repair. During this whole process, we were caught between a rock and a hard spot -- without the pawl, I could not determine if this part would get the microwave running again. But we did not want to go out and spend $900 for a comparable oven when the possibility existed the oven could be operational again with a lousy $10 pawl. I would suggest to Part Select that they train their customer service reps to be transparent and upfront with the customer and just tell them the truth. If the damn part will take 3 months to arrive, then tell the customer 3 months. This leading the customer on with 2 and 3 week extensions is "bull" lony. And the customer will think a lot higher of the company rather than leaving the taste of a lousy experience.

Latch for door broken
Unplug power source. Took off plastic panel partially on inside of door with door on its hinge. Removed latch and spring. Reinstalled new latch new spring (new part) Reattached plastic panel to door. Plug in power.

Door Latch Assembly Broke
This is a simple task. Removed the choke cover using a putty knife or small flat screw driver. Putty knife works best. Slide putty knife under the plastic choke cover to lift up over clips all around the door. There are 3 on top and Bottom and 2 on each side. Be very careful or you will break the catch clips that hold the choke cover
... Read morein place. Lift the door latch up all the way and push towards the outside of the door, then pull the top or bottom out then the rest of it. Unhook the spring end from the door. Attach the new spring to the hook on the door and then to the door latch. Extend it up all the way so the 2 hook parts of the door latch can go back into their slots. Unlike some others said, the microwave door does not need to be removed. If you have someone to hold the door still, that's good enough. I did it by myself with no problem.

I decided to skip this when I found a Youtube video showing that the latch replacement required little disassembly. Here are my steps #1 Open door completely and, if needed, have someone steady it. #2 Using a thin plastic putty knife, gently pry

Try to break as few of the plastic retaining tabs as possible (my total was about 10). #3 Slide the old latch upward and outward towards the outside edge of the door with your putty knife. #4 Remove the old latch and spring. #5 Attach the new spring to the latch and hook it to the retainer on the door. #6 Lift the new latch into place, it will drop into the slots with no or little persuasion. #7 reinstall fascia. #8 "nuke" last night's pizza ;)

My GE profile microwave's door latch is broken. I took the plastic fascia off easily but i cannot get the white plastic latch out. It doesn't just slide up and out. I have tried for 15 minutes to get it out. The spring was loose and fell out immediately when i took the plastic fascia off. Please help.

Hi Anne,
Thank you for your question. Before you begin any repair please unplug the appliance from the electrical outlet. You will need to remove the plastic lining around the inside of the door. There are retainer clips holding the liner in place and you will need to use a putty knife to remove it. Depending on the type of microwave you have, you may have to come in from the bottom or from the top to remove the lining. Gently slide the putty knife in between the lining and the frame and go around the frame and gently pry it loose. On the hinge side you will need to come in from the backside to pry the lining off. The door latch is held in place by tension. There is a spring that is usually attached to the latch and to one of the fins on the door to provide it. With the inner lining removed you can now remove the old latch. Install the new latch by slipping it into the slots in the door and attach the spring to the bottom fin to allow for tension in the latch. Reinstall the lining and close the door. Plug the microwave back in. I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!
