We replaced both ignitors and the oven heats fine, however we get a strong raw gas smell while we are using the oven to bake. While it doesnt seem logical for any gas not to be burned up, we did stop using the oven. We did check all areas that could leak, no leaks. What could be the problem?
For model number MGS5775BDS
Hi Robert,
Thank you for your question. When the oven is first turned on and it is igniting correctly, it is normal to smell an odor coming from it. An odorant is added to natural gas and liquid propane. The odorant becomes stronger when your tanks start to get low. If you have piped natural gas, the smell can get strong more often. The odor is just the combustion of gas at the burner and usually goes away after a few minutes. If you oven is not igniting correctly, then you will need to inspect igniters to make sure they are installed correctly and not damaged. If the odor you are experiencing smells like rotten eggs, turn the gas off and call a repairman to see what's going on. We hope this helps! If you have any questions, please let us know.
