This part senses when the dishwasher door is closed so the cycle can start, and prevents it from starting if the door is not closed. If the dishwasher will not start or will not close, you may need to replace the door switches and holder assembly, also known as the door latch assembly. The dishwasher will not start if this part is defective. It includes two switches and the holder, this part does not include the handle or screws. Tools needed are T20 torx driver, needle nose pliers, and 1/4 inch nut driver. This is a genuine OEM part that is sourced directly from the manufacturer.

My dishwasher will not run unless I push on it hard and it starts and soon as I let off on it it quits what could be the problem.

My dishwasher will not cycle when the door is closed and latched the timer won’t even move, but as soon as i release the latch and open the door slightly the machine begins to cycle and the timer begins to move. It doesn’t matter where i turn the knob. It behaves like this in all positions. Is this a latch/switch issue?
    For model number MDB6000AWA
Hello Art, thank you for your question. Yes, the first part I would recommend replacing would be the door latch and switches. It sounds like the switch is activating when the unit is opened and stopping when its closed, instead of vice versa. The part number to replace is PartSelect Number: PS2099645. I hope this helps!

How to check continuity of door switch.
    For model number MDB4100AWW
Hello Dennis, Thank you for your inquiry. You can check the continuity with a multimeter. I have included a link to a video on troubleshooting a dishwasher door latch and it shows how to test the switch. Hope this helps! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Jy2G2FNSWg

Your data indicates that the most likely candidate for my dishwasher stopped working is because of the latch switch. However, you don't mention the timer, which, of course, is no longer available. What if the timer no longer works? Is there a way to tell if it is the timer of latch with switch without replacing one of them?
    For model number 9200 aaX
Hi Hank, Thank you for your question. Yes, you can test both of those parts with a multi meter to determine whether or not they are broken. There are two micro switches on your door latch that you will test, and then just your timer. I hope that helps. Good luck with your repair.

Is there a way to buy just the micro switch (as opposed to the entire latch assembly)?
    For model number MDB6000AWB
Hi Zachary, Thank you for your question. Unfortunately it looks like those switches only come with the holder assembly. Good luck with your repair.

I only need the door switch on the right side looking at the unit. The left switch is good . It has the following numbers on the switch 4777-5085. Just need the one switch not the entire door latch with both switches .

Hello Jim, Thank you for your inquiry. We are showing that the right switch is only available for this model as part of the assembly. Hope this helps!

Ok. So i just installed this part and double checked that everything was installed according to the video. The dishwasher still doesn't start unless i push the door really hard closed. I even moved the hook-latch (ps2098991) back so the door would close more, but now it's really hard to close the door. Even so, it will start if i continue to push and hold the door, but it stops when i let go. Is there some lower door adjustment? From the side it looks like the bottom of the door is much closer to the frame(?) than the top of the door is. I think if the bottom can be move out a bit, it would work. Please advise. Thanks in advance!!

Bad switch that appeared to be worse than it appeared
      1. Turned power to the unit off.
      2. Used a star bit to remove the 7 screws holding the door panel in place.
      3. Handed each to my 2 year-old grand daughter.
      4. Removed a 1" switch metal retaining plate and a black plastic cover. Removed one screw holding the switch in place.
      5. Gently lifted out the old switch and compared it to the replacement switch.
      6. Inserted the two black connectors into the new switch.
      7. Removed each of the four wires connected to the old switch and connected each, in-turn, to the new switch. Removed the exterior black handle from the old switch and snapped it into place on the new switch.
      8. Put the switch into place, reinstalled the black plastic housing cover and long 1" metal switch retaining panel.
      9. Set the door cover in place and let the 2 year-old screw in the 7 retaining screws.

handle to open door was broke off
      very easy to replace! !

Remove the retaining screws holding the inner door panel in place. Then lift the panel away, make sure you unplug the wiring connector there noting the way it was plugged in.

Then remove the screws holding the stainless trim panel in place over the latch assembly area. Unscrew the screw retaining the latch/switch assembly, unplug the connectors on each side of the two switches, assemble the new latch/switch assembly and install ! !

The latch was becoming very difficult to open being almost 10 years old
I had to remove the screws around the door frame and remove the side panels that attached the inside cover from the interior of the door. Once I removed it I could then unscrew the top cover that then allowed me to remove an inside cover for the internal electrical connections and the door latch was then open for repair. The electrical connections to both sides of the door switch and holder assemby had to be pulled from the assembly and I was then able to remove the assembly and the door latch. The new door holder and latch handle had to be connected to the electrical wires and inserted back into the door and the initial process was reversed to reinstall.

Dishwasher would stop in the middle of a wash cycle
Our dishwasher got to the point where it would not complete a wash cycle. I found that by jiggling the door latch, the dishwasher would whir back to life. For awhile, if I put a clothespin on the door latch, somehow enough pressure would be put on the switch to keep the dishwasher going. Finally, the dishwasher refused to cooperate...so I ordered a replacement switch.

The repair was easy. I only had to remove the interior door panel, unscrew the metal bar at the top of the door and underneath the door panel, then remove the black plastic shield. After that, it was just a matter of wiggling the old switch out and wiggling the new switch.

CAUTION: Be very sure that the power to the dishwasher is turned off. I got a scare because I thought the circuit breaker was off, but I had flipped the wrong one and suddenly, with my fingers very close to the bare connectors, the dishwasher came back to life briefly. I ran downstairs and found the correct circuit breaker and all was fine after that.

Close door, turn on dishwasher, walk away. 5 to 10 min later dishwasher not running. Push in at the door latch and dishwasher would start back up.
Removed the inner door panel-Removed the black cowling covering the timer and wires.
Removed the swicth assembly and installed new part.
      Reassembled dishwasher.

I checked the operation of the two switches. One switch did not click, when button was pushed, as cleanly as the other. There was a bit of delay and play in the button when depressed, even sticking a bit.

Dishwasher would not work at all
After checking this site for any clues I saw that others had the same problem and changed the door switch so I thought I would give it a shot.I removed the inner part of the door(plastic). It had about 8 screws. Then there was a plastic cover that covers the wiring that comes right out and there was the switch. There are really 2 switches that come with the latch.then take out one screw with the nut driver.Take the four wires off the old latch and install on the new latch. Then screw back into the door and put inside part of the door together.Close the door and turn on and away you go.I also turned off the power to play it safe.I was thinking of replacing the dishwasher cause it is 10 years old but now I can take my time and wait for a good deal.Thank you very much partselect. Also I ordered the part 12.00 Sunday nite and recieved it on Tuesday afternoon with no special shipping.Wow!
