My dryer develops a loud thumping noise as it heats up. After 10 minutes it is thumping at its loudest im sure this is a heat related problem because it doesn't thump if i run it on fluff which uses no heat this problem started after i replaced the top front bearing because the slides were worn off and the drum had started wearing into the bearing itself. I even put a new motor in it. The original problem was the dryer stop tumbling during heat cycles after about ten minutes(about the same time the thumping is at its worst) but it wasnt thumping originally i created that problem somehow after i replaced the bearing. It will automatically start tumbling and drying again after it cools down after about 5 minutes. This process goes on and on until it finally has the clothes dry after about a hour or so. My question is. What could i have done replacing the bearing that would make it thump during heatup(by the way i replaced the long felt peice too that goes around the bottom piece of the bearing. And 2nd im guessing that one of the 3 thermostats is faulty and thats why its kicking off when hot(never kicks off during non-heat fluff cycles) my understanding is that the thermisters only control turning the heat elements on and off.(is that correct?) so thermisters wont turn dryer off they will just cause heating problems when failing. I need advice on what parts i need advice on what i did to create this thumping noise. Thank you very much.

Hello Garry, thank you for your question. In regards to the bearing; It sounds like the thumping might be a result of the bearing at the back of the drum. I would check the rear bearing part number WE25M40 to see if the part is bad. In regards to the temperature problem; I would check the safety thermostat part number WE4M160 which is located on the heating element. This thermostat acts as a safety mechanism that keeps the dryer from overheating. Once the dryer temperature reaches a certain point, this piece will shut down power to the heating element. If the unit isn't cycling properly this might be the cause. While you in there testing that thermostat you might want to test the other ones that are located on the heating element as well. Clothes are getting caught between the drum and front panel. I replaced the felt gasket but the problem still exist. Any idea of what could be causing the problem?

I have changed the back bearing and the slides but dryer still can handle a very light load or it shuts down. It is very noisy. How can i be sure that changing the front bearing will fix it?

LOUD - screeching noise during drying cycle, in all modes of operation.
1. Removed top cap on lid by removing the 3 - phillips screws. 2. removed front digital display panel from PC board. 3. removed bolts with nut-driver on the top of the front panel, removed bottom screws with #2 square bit. 4. removed "snap-in" plastic top bearing ( paying attention to where wiring is routed within this frame. 5. cleaned all areas of plastic and felt debris, installed new bearing, felt, and glides. 6. Re-installed all wiring and panels.
*** make sure to order all of the glides, there should be a total of 4 for the top assembly.

Repair was easy, following the disassembly instructions from the video on your site. What I did not know is that it takes 2 pieces of plastic slides from each kind to replace (makes a total of 4). I was lucky in that one of the white ones was still okay and that I accidentally ordered a second one from the greenish kind, so I was set. This was also a great opportunity to clean out the dryer which must have been a bucket full of lint. So far no more complaints. Given that this problem seems to reappear once in a while I'll order a new set soon.
First i took the top cover off 2nd i took the front cover off disconnected the wires but make sure that you mark the wires first. 3rd I pull the drum forward removed the three scews holding the rear bearing . 4th I remove the four screws holding the bearing bracket from heating element.To remove the bracket you might have to remove the heating element i only remove three screws and was able to put my hand behind it and pull the bracket out. To put back just go in the reverse order. note: get some one to help you.
i took the front load dryer apart found the parts that were bad ordered the parts which were a snap at partsselect at first i thought it would be tuff to put back together but the site has good pictures i put the dryer back together but had a tuff time with the belt after i watched a video it went right together i found that taking pictures with my cell phone while taking things apart helped a lot when putting it back together all in all im proud of myself i didnt think i could do it but i did and the dryer works great i will be using the site again i used it a few months ago for my washer it it worked great too!!
Clothes were getting stuck in the top of the dryer and as a result they were basically getting chewed up (creating holes in clothes).
I googled the problem and found a forum where people were having the same problem. Luckily I found a post that told me the exact parts I needed. I then found a video on youtube, followed every step and completed the repairs in about 45 minutes. I'm a housewife and found this fairly easy. The dryer now works like a charm!
I basically watch the video on how to get to the top bearing assy. and to replace the guides and it went pretty easy. The only thing was the drum had to be moved back into the frame because it was sticking to far out. I now have a new dryer and its very quite and does not eat the clothing any more. I received the part fast and I will use parts select for my other appliances.

loud squeaking
remove top cover and lean front panel foreward. remove old top bearing and snap new one in place.
I replaced the slides and the top bearing. Watched a video on here on how to replace the slides. Which helped me remove the door properly. Very easy. Was able to do by oneself. Parts came really fast. Only down for two days.
Worn out top bearing plastic part and worn out felt. Removed top part of the front where the dial and buttons are, then the top, then the front where the parts I was replacing were. It was overall easy and didn't require a cdertified repair person. These were parts that were worn out. I am dissapointed in the GE product. It is only 3 1/2 yrs old and already worn out. Poor design and poor quality parts. I will look at other brands next time when replacing the front loading dryer and washer. Overall a faril;y easy repair that most mechnicaaly oreinted person can do. Also thaks to partselct for the diagrams which helped tremendously with meticulous parts.
