This water inlet valve (Refrigerator Water Inlet Valve Assembly) supplies water to the ice maker and the water dispenser in your refrigerator. It is located at the back of the fridge, beneath the bottom panel. It is connected directly to 2 water supplies, a wiring harness, and your inlet water tube. This part is located at the back of the fridge, beneath the bottom panel. It is connected directly to 2 water supplies, a wiring harness, and your inlet water tube. Minerals and sediments can build up over time and cause a blockage in your inlet valve. They can also cause the valve to stick open, leading to an overflow of water. If this part is malfunctioning, water flow to your appliance could be compromised. Check for small ice cubes or a lack of ice cubes/water, as this is an obvious sign the part is damaged. The water inlet valve must be replaced if the solenoids no longer have continuity or the valve has internal blockage. Test your water inlet valve with a multimeter. You can test both the water dispenser side and the ice maker side. The part measures approximately 3 inches long and 2.75 inches wide and is constructed of plastic and metal. This replacement part features 1 dual inlet water valve with quick connections. It also has 1/4 and 5/16 John Guest fittings for the outlet lines and a 1/4 compression fitting for the inlet line.

Part was just what I needed. It fixed my ice making problem. The tube that water came out of into my ice maker would freeze up and not make ice. The valve was not shutting off and it would let water dribble out of the yube and eventually freeze shut. I replaced this valve and it fixed my problem. It was the part I needed and it arrived in a timely manner.

Ice maker was over filling and freezing the cubes together.
I turned water off at valve and unplugged refrigerator. I removed screws to remove cardboard cover at bottom. I removed screw holding duel inlet water valve bracket and pulled out valve. Then it's just a matter of exchanging electrical connections and water lines. The electrical connections unplug and plug in-red to red and blue to blue.

Ice maker working but water dispenser not working
The very first symptom here is important! The door water dispenser is not working but the ice macine is working. You may only have a frozen water tube in the door so do the following before diagnosing that your solenoid valve is bad: 1) the tube usually runs under the front of the refrigerator and usually has a quick disconnect. Undo the
... Read moreconnection and press the dispenser. If water comes out of the tube you have a frozen or blocked tube in the door. 2) Immediately adjust the temperature in the freezer and warm the freezer compartment as much as you can without destroying the freezer contents. Wait 24 hours. This will usually unfreeze the line. Do not waste your time with a hair dryer. NOW, if this doesn't work and you are convinced you need to order and replace the solenoid, follow these steps. Assemble your tools first. I needed a good ratchet set and a screwdriver. A shop towel is helpful for spilled water. A light is handy. Pull out the refrigerator to gain access to the rear of the unit. Unplug the power and close the water valve (older homes, you may need to actually shut the house water supply). Remove the screws which hold the cover over the lower half of the refrigerator. On the left you will see the solenoid. It's always good to see that your new part matches the one you feel needs replaced. They may not match perfectly due to changing design but they should be very similar. One screw holds this part in place and access is very simple. Now simply unplug the electrical connections. In my case, one blue "blade" type connection (powering the water) and one red "blade" type connection powering the ice maker. They are not the same size and this coupled with the coloring means you will not accidently switch them. pull the tubes clear of the solenoid. This is simple and needs no explanation. Grab your new solenoid and reattach both the electrical and water lines (two, remember, ice maker and drink dispencer). Replace the single screw. Re-attach the rear, lower refrigerator cover and go to the front of the unit to check the water. You can listen carefully and hear the power engage from the new part bringing you water. Clean up, replace the refrigerator back to its place and look really tired when your wife sees that you worked "so hard"! You probably saved at least $50-$80 from a service call.

Water dispenser freezing at the dispenser nozzle. Ice was being made.
I replaced the solenoid assembly on the dispensing door and the dual inlet water valve. I found that the solenoid assembly was rusted and caused the door not to allow the ice to dispense properly. Also the water line was checked per the instructional video offered by this site I found trash in the line. I previously had issues with t
... Read morehe water freezing in the in-door water dispenser which resulted in a heater repair kit being installed by a service tech it did not last. Everything worked great for a week and the water stopped dispensing from the door. The final fix was found on line as follows - Install a 8 inch length of weed-eater line (.95) into the dispensing tube. Let it extend out about 1" or less. When the water stops flowing just give the line an up and down pull and the small amount of ice in the line is removed thus allowing the water to dispense properly. The trouble shooting and helpful videos provided by this site are great. I received the parts quickly and they followed up with me after the job was completed. I have moved onto the washing machine and ordered parts for another home project. Thanks Randall
Ice maker inlet tube was freezing up, and eventually the icemaker overfilled and completely froze up
After lots of research online, i narrowed my problem down to be the double outlet water valve, behind the fridge. My biggest problem was getting the refridgerator out of its spot, but after that it was pretty simple to change. I took the cover off the bottom, in the back of the fridge, then i removed the inlet waterline (after i turned

Now i pulled off the two other waterlines from the old valve and moved them, one at a time, over to the new valve, along with the wire harness. The rest of the instalation was reverse order. Simple fix that im glad i didn't pay an expert to do!

My refrigerator/freezer had several problems; both frig and freezer wasn't cooler properly, some days everything froze. The ice maker stopped making ice and water was leaking in the freezer.
I first called a GE repairperson. The diagnose the problem and told me the main control board was shot and the double outlet water valve needed replaced. The estimate for both parts and repairs was $850.00. I thought the estimate was high so I did some research on-line and discovered I could purchase the parts myself. When I researche
... Read mored the part, a short video popped up explaining how to install the part. I watched both video's and did exactly what the guy in the video said and was able to repair my refrigerator/freezer myself. The total cost for both parts was $200.00, I save $650!!! Amazing. I ordered the part on Saturday, and was told it would take a week to 10 days to receive the part and the part showed up on my door steep the following Tuesday. I'll never call a repairmen first again. I'll research the issue through partselect.com and try to fix the problem myself. I am not technologically or mechanically sauvy and have spent thousands on repair bills in the past, no more will I do that.

Water not depending and ice maker working. I have replaced the water pump, water filter and dispenser solenoid. All I get when I go get a glass of water. There is a clicking sound. Any clue what I should try next?

Hello Tim, Thank you for the question. If the water is not dispensing but the ice maker is working, this could indicate the Micro Switch is faulty. The Switch can be tested with a Multimeter to check the continuity. We hope this helps!
We are able to make ice but unable to get water - what is the likely cause and what would be the likely solution?
For model number GSH22JSDD SS
Hello Robert, Thank you for your question. Water may not be reaching the ice maker due to a frozen line, missing filter, or a closed water inlet valve. Check to make sure the water lines are not frozen, if they are you can use a hair dryer to thaw them out or unplug the refrigerator and allow it to defrost. Check the refrigerator’s filter. When there is no filter, or it is clogged, the ice maker does not get water. Make sure that the filter is in place, and if it has not been changed in more than six months, replace it with a new one. Part number PS8746144. If the lines are not frozen and the filter is new it could be your water inlet valve, part number: PS16226572. We hope this helps!
the water dispenser continues to drip even though water is not being dispensed. What could be the issue?
For model number pss26mgtbcc
Hi Raymond,
Thank you for your question. If there is air trapped in the water lines, the dispenser will drip. You will need to purge the air from lines. Take a pitcher or a bucket and press and hold the water dispenser for a few minutes. This should clear the air from the lines. Sometimes when you replace a water filter, air will become trapped in the lines. It is recommended to flush the water filter before using it. Make sure also that the water lines are connected correctly to prevent air from entering the lines. If you have any questions, please let us know. We are open 7 days a week. We look forward to hearing from you!

The water dispenser will not shut off. Ice dispenser seems to be ok and working. Had to shut off water valve to refrigerator.
For model number GSS 25Q GT B WW
Hi Rick, thank you for the question. One of the most common causes of this water dispensing problem is a stuck water dispenser button. If it is pressed too hard, it can get stuck in the on position. To release it, try pressing it again. If this does not work, you can try unplugging your fridge for 5 to 10 minutes. This can also help release a stuck button. If the issue persists, you will need to check the continuity of the water inlet valve, number PS16226572, with a multimeter and replace it if defective. We hope this helps!

Is this part all I need to fix a major water leak coming from the ice maker? At the same time the leak started the freezer light began flickering. Do I need an additional part?
For model number GSF25TGTA
Hello Linda, thank you for contacting us. The leaking might be caused by a faulty water inlet valve, part number PS16226572, or a clogged water filter, part number PS8746144. Over time, the water filter in the ice maker may become clogged with minerals, sediments, and other debris, which causes the water to back up and leak from the ice maker. The light flickering may occur if the leaking water reaches the wirings in the refrigerator. We would suggest draining and thoroughly drying the refrigerator with a towel. We hope this helps!

Hi Michael, thank you for the question. We would recommend checking the following parts to fix your issue: Water Inlet Valve, part number PS16226572, Water Filter, part number PS8746144, Dispenser Door Assembly, part number PS964304, and Tube Assembly, part number PS292253. Hello Tony, thank you for asking. Based on the description you have provided, we would recommend replacing the water inlet valve, part number PS16226572, to fix the issue. We hope this helps!

Water to my ice maker will not shutoff. It was working and I put in a RO system and never had the time to hook up the RO system to the refrigerator. I finally hooked it up and now the ice maker water just keeps on running and will not shutoff. I figure it is either the ice maker or water valve. Any troubleshooting tips to help me figure out which part(s) might be bad.
For model number GSL22JFTD
Hi David, thank you for reaching out to PartSelect. If there are food items stuck in or jammed around the ice maker, it may not cycle properly. The ice maker may get stuck in the middle of a cycle or overflow with ice or water. Inspect the icemaker and remove any items that may interfere with its operation. The water inlet valve supplies water to the refrigerator ice and water dispenser. The valve requires a minimum of 20 psi to work properly. If the water pressure is too low, the valve may not close fully when the power is shut off. As a result, the valve leaks water into the ice maker, causing it to overflow. Check the water flow and test the pressure to determine if it is at least 20 psi. If this is not the issue, we recommend checking the water inlet valve, part number PS16226572. Glad to be of assistance!
