This water filter is found in the rear upper-right corner of the interior of the refrigerator. If your model has a replacement indicator light it will turn red to signal the need for a replacement. If your model does not have an indicator light, the filter cartridge should be replaced every six months or earlier if you notice a decrease in the flow of water from the dispenser.
The filter media is carbon black and reduces leads, some pharmaceuticals, and fifty other contaminates. It is 2 inches deep, 6 inches high, 2.25 inches wide and weighs approximately 1 lbs. When it comes time to replace the filter, first discard the old one by turning it to the left to remove. It will release itself when it has been turned far enough.
Installation instructions are quick and simple but can vary slightly depending on if it is a bottom-freezer, side-by-side or multi-door bottom-freezer model. Refer to the user instructions for you filter. Do not forget to reset the filter change indicator if applicable. In bottom-freezer and side-by-side models this is done by pressing and holding the RESET WATER FILTER bottom for three seconds. On a multi-door bottom-freezer model, press the button underneath the Confirm Filter Change message while the water is dispensing. On select models this reset is done automatically once a new filter is installed.

Do I have to presoak this filter
For model number GNE25JSKLFSS
Hello George, Thank you for the question. You do not need to presoak the filter, however once installed you can run 5 liters through the dispenser before use to flush the filter. We hope this helps!

How do I get the filter out it turn but but will not come out
For model number GSS25LSLLCSS
Hello Thomas, Thank you for the question. Once the Cover for the filter is lowered, you will need to turn the filter to the left, about a ¼ turn. The filter should release itself from the filter manifold. Make sure you are turning the filter far enough to the Left to have it automatically release. If the filter is "stuck", the Filter Manifold could be damaged and may need to be replaced. If you need help placing an order, customer service is open 7 days a week. Please feel free to give us a call. We look forward to hearing from you!
I know that XWFE water filter replaced the XWF -- I can read you website. I asked you what the difference is.....please advise.
thank you
For model number xwf/xwfe
Hello Colleen, thank you for contacting us. The only difference between the XWFE and the XWF is a chip on the back of the XWFE filter, which uses radio frequency identification (RFID) to communicate with the fridge. The chip is used to detect leaks and let the refrigerator know its health and originality. Customer service is always available to help you place an order if you are having trouble doing so. Good luck with your repair.

Does this refrigerator water filter work on the drinking water and water going to ice maker? If so, can I turn off the ice maker and only use it for drinking water?
For model number GWE19JYLFFFS
Hello Peter, thank you for reaching out. We have researched and found the water passes through this water filter for both the ice maker and the water dispenser. You can turn the ice maker off if you want to use the water dispenser only. The ice maker has a power switch located on the unit. Switch that button to the "off" position to turn the ice maker off. We hope this helps!

I attempted to change my water filter and now I have no ice or water although I have been successful in replacing the cylinder. Is there some other step I need to do to make it work?
For model number GFE24JGKFFWW
Hello Sherry, Thank you for the question. As per the manufacturer, this is an updated water filter. If you have never installed the updated part or your old model was made by Culligan, you may need the adapter, PartSelect Number: PS220347. We hope this helps!
I replaced the water filter XWFE with a new GE XWFE and all I get is ERR code. I have unplugged the refrigerator to reset it but that didn't help. I put old filter back in and it works. My refrigerator is only 6 mths old.
For model number GWE19JYLFFFS
Hi Glenda, thank you for reaching out. Based on our research, we would recommend checking that there are no scratches or filter label damage, and you are using the model compatible water filter. Replace the filter if the filter label shows damage. The compatible water filter for your model is part number PS16217433. Glad to be of help!

how do I know if I need the adapter? (re: XWFE, XWF) Refrig is about 4 years old & don't think filter hasn't been changed . . .
For model number refrig model GSS25GSHKCSS
Hi Deb, thank you for reaching out. If the adapter is broken or leaking, then you need to replace it with part number PS12703534. If the adapter is not causing the issue, then you need to check the water filter, part number PS16217433, and water inlet valve, part number PS12727426, to fix the issue. We hope this helps! If you need help placing an order, customer service is open 7 days a week. Thanks again for your great question.
