Dryer made excessively loud noise when running.
I initially opened the front of the dryer and noticed that the drum slides that the drum rides on in the front of the dryer were excessively worn. I then removed the drum and noticed that the plastic bearing that supported the drum in the rear was cracked and the washer(?) appered to be disintigrating. I ordered and replaced the drum slides and rear bearing. The dryer was still making too much noise. I ran the motor with the drum removed and realized that they motor was the remaining source of the excessive noise. I then ordered and replaced the motor with a new one and this solved the problem. Total cost was around $140. Note that when ordering a new motor, the instructions on the web site indicate that you need to order the motor pulley if your existing motor has a pressed on pulley. The new motor was a kit that came with the pulley included, and therefore the additional part was not needed, and had to be returned. The instructional videos and parts schematics on the web site were very helpful.

main motor bearings frozen
Having recently replaced the heating elements and main bearing on the dryer I knew how to take the thing apart, getting to the motor was easy. However, the fan side of the shaft was longer than the original so I had to bend out the metal front panel where the fan is located so it would spin without grinding against the front of the dryer. That done, the rest was easy to finish, mounting bolts on the motor tightened, one last test before putting it back together and all was well. The dryer now works better than it has for a long time.

Does the drive motor kit come with a wiring harness for my model? My model has the old style motor with the belt tensioner that is also the rear motor mount and appears to be longer between the mounts even though the shaft length appears similar - how is this handled for installation? If a harness is available is there also a wiring diagram for the older style motor? One of the wires (yellow with black marks) on the old motor has two connectors and connects to both #1 and #3 on the motor is this typical?
For model number DDC4580BAL

Hello Gary, Thank you for your inquiry. There is a motor harness that comes with the kit. For wiring instructions for the new motor, you will need to connect the Black wire to terminal 1, the Purple wire to terminal 2, the Brown wire with yellow trace to terminal 4, Red wire to terminal 5, and the Pink wire to terminal 6. For additional installation instructions, we have included a link to our video for this part. Hope this helps.

Hello Daniel, Thank you for your inquiry. We would recommend checking the following parts to fix your issue: the rear drum bearing kit, the white and green drum bearing slides, the front drum bearing, and the drive motor. Good luck!

This dryer takes motor part number PS1559768 in you website description it says that it comes with 2 different pulleys. On the same page it says that if the original pulley was pressed on a new set, the screw pulley must be ordered. What is the actual situation here? Does the new motor indeed come with 2 different size pulleys or does a 3rd one need to be ordered as well? As this is a dryer motor there is a blower wheel on one end of the shaft so only one pulley is needed for actual operation. Thanks very much if you could clarify this description on your website.
For model number DDE7500VEL

Hello Douglas, Thanks for your question. Yes, the new motor does come with both pulleys attached to it. It comes with a long and a short pulley. The old style of motor had a short pulley, but this one has the long pulley already installed on it and pressed in. You just need to attach the short pulley, which comes with this drive motor. I hope this helps.

When i first switch on the dryer, it runs like the day i bought it. After it's been running a few minutes, it's like some turns a switch and it gets louder. It's not squeaking, squealing, etc. The sound change is as though you had the laundry room door shut, and then you opened it. It's still tolerable, but something just isn't right. It happens even with just a couple light items loaded. Tonight i pulled it apart. The pulley and rear bearing look alright (though not sure how to judge the rear bearing). The drum bearings are a little worn but still have a lot of life in them and the felt pad is in place. While i had the drum removed i tried to spin the motor shaft and it felt like there was some resistance. Do you think my motor is announcing its approaching retirement? Is there anything i can do to get it to stay around a bit longer?

Hello Steven, thank you for your question. It does sound like the motor is starting to go bad. If the felts, the bearing, the glides, and pulley look good and you're not getting an "airplane taking off" type of sound, the issue is probably the motor itself. Unfortunately, there is no preventative measures you can take to make it last longer. I would suggest considering replacing the motor. I hope this information helps!

Start button does not stay engaged when released.
For model number DVLR223EGE1WW

Hi Dick, thank you for your question. It sounds like you might want to check your start switch. If that is not the issue then you may want to check a few other parts. The first parts to check in this case would be all of your thermostats and thermal fuses. You can test those parts with a multi meter and they should be reading 0 ohms to be working correctly. If those parts are fine, you should then go on to testing your heating element as well. You can also test that with a multi meter and it should be reading between 0 - 50 ohms. Something else you should also check would be your filter and ducts. Make sure there is absolutely no blockage that would restrict air flow in your appliance. I hope that helps. Good luck with your repair.

How many votes does a dryer motor put out
For model number NONE

Hello Gene, thank you for your question. Most dryer motors run on 120 VAC, while the heating elements require 240 volts.
