Unplug the washer and pull the agitator straight up. Remove the bolt that holds the coupler onto the shaft of the transmission and pull the coupler off. Be sure to clean any dirt, rust, or residue off the transmission spline grooves, and make sure the grooves on the agitator splines are clean and undamaged. We recommend using the gasket and bolt that come with the replacement coupling.

I have pulled up on the agitator but it will not com off? Is the agitator 2 pieces ? I took the softener cap off . I can hold the bottom of the agitator and rotate the top clockwise and counter clockwise. But still cannot pull the agitator off. Any suggestions.

Agitates normally and pumps water out, but will not spin. Motor does not turn on to spin even though all the water pumps out. Tested continuity of water level switch and the no contact closed and the nc contact opened.

Agitator coupling kit not assessable as per video. Removed agitator cap but there is no opening to get to mounting bolt. Solid plastic 4" down with no opening to mounting bolt. 2 drain holes at solid plastic 4" down. Hotpoint ser# dh920861h washer agitates, drains but does not spin. 1 broken damping strap will need to be replaced also!

Why does agitater keep coming off

Hello Carroll, Thank you for your inquiry. It could be an issue with the agitator coupling, or one of the tabs on the bottom of the agitator that holds it to the coupling could be broken off. Check the agitator first and if one of the tabs is broken, then you would need to replace the agitator. Hope this helps!

The agitator doesn't agitate. The top agitator spins one direction, and locks in the other direction, which is the correct action.The lower agitator spins freely by hand. I have pulled the coupler. It also spins freely by hand. The drive shaft doesn't spin by hand, but the splines on the coupler seem to be intact. Should I go ahead and replace the coupler? thanks.

The agtator wasn't working to clean the clothes.
Got a new part in the Agitator Coupling Kit, as the existing part was worm down. Simply removed and inserted the plastic bottom, used a mallet to pound it down and it was finished. By checking a video, I felt comfortable in doing the repair myself. A greater feelings was knowing I didn't have to go out and buy a new clothes washer. Thanks PartSelect for having the right part to complete this project.

Very loose agitator so I thought
I bought 3 parts for I didn't know what I need so I listen to the companies video twice. I popped off the agitator which was easy. then had a little trouble with getting the screw/nut out it was rusty. Finally got that off then I worked backwards and I found I didn't need all the parts which I sent back with no problems. My machine works as good as new ,it has stopped making noise. I am really proud I did this by myself and didn't need my husbands help,
I also spent less than 12.00 to fix and a new one is over 600.00.

Washer would not drain / Agitator noisey
Disconnect electrical cord from outlet . Removed Front panel of cabinet , removed water from tub with my shop vac , disconnected hoses and electrical connections to pump , removed the two 3/8 bolts that secure pump to bottom of cabinet and removed the pump . Replacement of pump was exactly everything in reverse only hoses went on first. Agitator only required a small tug which exposed the 7/16 bolt that secures the agitator coupling . A simple remove and replace operation paying attention to the ribs which align to the channels inside the agitator . A small push locks it into place . Finish with replacement of front panel of cabinet.
I was going to replace the washer. .. I am a cabinet maker and pretty good at what I do. I have to admit before seeing the video I was out of my comfort zone with this repair. I was shown not only the part needed and that you folks had the part in your inventory on hand. I was pleased to see how inexpensive it was $7.40. I had it shipped for $8.70. I ordered online at 2 pm. the part arrived the next day at 1 pm. AMAZING!. I spent ten minutes making the repair. The machine is now back to it's like new self! Regards, MichaelAndrews.biz

CLOTHERS NOT AGITATING
REMOVED THE AGITATOR BY LIFTING STRAIGHT UP WITH MY HANDS. COULDN'T REMOVE THE COUPLING WITH THE NUTDRIVER AT FIRST, DUE TO RUST. SPRAYED A LITTLE WD40. LET IT SET FOR FIVE MINUTES AND REMOVED THE SCREW VERY EASY WITH THE PLIERS. TOOK OUT THE OLD COUPLING AND REPLACED IT WITH THE NEW ONE. THANKS FOR THE YOU-TUBE INFO.

Agitator not agitating
Watch the videos you might be a little skeptical at first. I watched the videos about 8-10 times before I bought the part so I took my part out first then got back on you tube watched a few more videos and got on parts select website found the part matched it up to what I pulled out of my washer ordered it got to me in a weeks time put it in and working like new again cost about 14.00 shipping and part together saved about 200.00 per my estimate I had to fix it.

Agitator spins freely.
Pull off the agitator. Remove 1 bolt on coupler pull off coupler. Slide new coupler onto spindle. Replace bolt. Line up and slide on agitator. Seat it firmly in place. Done. Took all of 2 minutes.

Washer would fill, spin and drain, but was not agitating the clothes.
(As I am an older female, I used YouTube to review the repair before trying it. YouTube scared me, the actual repair was much easier) I removed the agitator from the washer which revealed the agitator assembly held in place by a bolt. After removing the bolt, the assembly was lifted off the spindle. I cleaned the grime off the agitator, the spindle and the bottom of the washer basket. New agitator assembly was placed onto the spindle and pushed down. There was a distinctive click when it slid into place. I replaced the bolt to the top of the assembly. tightened it down, then slid the agitator over the assembly, matching grooves to teeth until that also slid into place with a click. It honestly took me longer to clean the grime than to change the part. Agitator is working perfectly
