The agitator coupler connects the agitator to the agitator shaft. Common symptoms of a damaged coupler include: a grinding sound during the wash cycle, the washer refusing to agitate or spin, or the washing machine shakes and moves during the wash cycle. Unplug the washer and pull the agitator straight up. Remove the bolt that holds the coupler onto the shaft of the transmission and pull the coupler off. Be sure to clean any dirt, rust, or residue off the transmission spline grooves, and make sure the grooves on the agitator splines are clean and undamaged. We recommend using the gasket and bolt that come with the replacement coupling.

This part works with the following brands: General Electric, Hotpoint.

This part works with the following products: Washer.

This part fixes the following symptoms:

  • Will not agitate.
  • Pumps but will not spin.
  • Noisy.
  • Shakes and moves.
  • Leaking.
  • Spins slowly.

Washer will do everything but agitate, help, can i fix it?

Margaret for model number WBSR3140DAWW
Answer:

Hi Margaret, Thank you for your question. Yes you should be able to fix it. I would suggest looking at this part, your agitator coupling to see if it has worn down. If that part is fine, then you may have to look into replacing your entire agitator. Good luck with your repair.

Water leaking through tub seal

First and foremost, the job would have taken 2 hrs instead of 8 hrs. The problem was that no one on the help instructions said that the Hub Nut had a LEFT HAND thread and suggested to just break the nut off. Well, after chiseling off most of the nut I drilled small holes through the nut and removed the nut pieces. However; I learned that I had damaged the transmission seal and had to buy a new transmission $183. Had I known this the job would have taken much less time and at a cost of about $50.
PS: The washer runs great.

Agitator wobbly and noisy.

Placed a small rope under the agitator and pulled up with a sudden jerk . It popped right up and out . I removed the bolt holding the coupling .I then removed old coupling and replaced with new coupling and bolt. I then installed new agitator pushing down until it clicked into place . All done , less than 15 minutes . Thanks to others that gave their feedback so we could learn what to do .

Agitator stripped and came off coupling

First I took off the old coupling (one screw). Put the new coupling on, lined up and snapped the new agitator onto the new coupling.
Repair took les than 5 minutes. The longest part of the whole process was lining up the agitator to the coupling.

My washer stopped agitating

Our GE washer stopped agitating. We bought us a Whirlpool Cabrio washer with auto-sensing and an impeller instead of an agitator. My wife couldn't get used to washing clothes with so little water. We found out about PartSelect.com and ordered the part they indicated would probably fix our GE washer ($5.86) - the Agitator Coupling Kit. Ordered it on Friday, received it by Fed Ex the following Tuesday. It was an easy installation. Our GE is working fine. Took the Whirlpool back to the store, got our $637.00 back.I plan to use PartSelect.com again,if I need to. We don't like the new type washers as well as our 7-1/2 year old GE.

Agitator had little to no movement

I removed agitator by pulling it up until it unsnaped.

I removed the old agitator coupling by removing the bolt and pulling up while twisting it.

The new coupling looks different than the old part but fits the same.

I pressed the new coupler on to the agitator shaft, reinstalled bolt and pressed agitator on the agitator coupler until it snaped into place.

Washer runs like new!
