I have replaced this item before, ordered an extra one this time to repair when it fails again. The video is good at showing how to replace the part. To remove the agitator I find it simpler to use a my leather belt. I slide the belt under the edge of the agitator working it as close to the center as possible. Holding each end of the belt I jerk it upward and the agitator pops right off. This is an easy fix, takes no more than five minutes to complete.

Lower agitator, very loose and wobbly
Reached down into the washer bowl. Fingers on each side of the agitator base. Quick jolt up agitator popped out adjustable wrench took the bolt. Inner Tub Base Hub replacement
The tub base hub developed a large crack and spin started to make a large vibration. Agitator coupling was frozen, so I broke it by dremel, wedge (a minus driver) and a hammer. Washer wouldn’t agitate.
Watched a how to video. Pulled the agitator. Determined that the agitator coupling was worn out. Matched the old agitator coupling to new replacement one. Ordered it. Pushed the new agitator coupling onto the fitting. Secured it with the old bolt. Replaced the agitator. Repaired.

Agitator Coupling Replacement..
Pry the cap off of the top of the agitator, then one 7/16 bolt to remove the agitator (takes around 15" of extensions to reach the bolt and there is a small o-ring under the bolt that you don't want to miss). The hard part is getting the old coupler out of the agitator. Four lock tabs need to be held back while the coupler is pulled
... Read more out. I warmed it all up with a heat gun, pried the tabs back with screw drivers, and pulled the coupler out with a pair of Channel Locks. Kinda like pulling a very big tooth. After that, all was easy. Line the new coupler up with the locator splines in the agitator, knock it in with a rubber mallet. Slide the agitator back on the shaft, run the bolt back in and tighten (don't forget the o-ring), pop the cap back on. Done.
Removed agitator with rope idea. One quick jerk and it came off. Removed coupling. Replaced with new coupling. Reinstalled agitator. Works fine. Noisy while spinning
I dissasembled the machine and it took about 30 minutes. Orderd the parts recommended for noisy spinning. Reinstalled the new parts / changed all drum straps. Cleaned the drain drum and spin drum and after complete reassembly the washer is still noisy in agitation and spin cycle. The motor,transmission,counter weight,and drum look ok but

I purchased the parts that was recommended to fix the washer but they were not the ones.The new parts did help like the tub seal but the bottom line is that the washer is still noisy. The agitator would not spin and it was due to a coupling that was worn down to the nubs
Pulled the agitator off by hand. Loosened the screw on top of the coupling and pulled old coupling off by hand. Replaced part with new coupling and socketed it in place. Replaced agitator by-hand by simply pushing it down on top of coupling making sure the plastic teeth aligned.

Is there another reason why the agitator will not function other then the agitating coupling

Thank you for your question. If the washer is not agitating, there are some other parts that you will need to check to see which ones are causing the issue. You will need to check the belt, the agitator, the inner tub base hub, the tub dampening straps, the transmission and brake assembly and the lid switch. I hope this helps. Hello Tony, Thank you for contacting us. I suggest checking the following two parts: PS11736866 Agitator and PS1155105 Dual Water Inlet Valve. Sometimes these part can build up sediments that leave particles on clothing. Good luck with your repair!

Leaks on agitation cycle, makes funny sound, makes loud noise on spin, and rubber burn smell with large loads.

Hello David, Thank you for the question. We suggest replacing the Tub Seal, PartSelect Number PS4704237. The main tub seal is located between the transmission and the outer tub. Its the primary water seal in the outer tub for the transmission-shaft. If your washer is leaking during the fill cycle, or at agitation time, your tub seal may need to be replaced. When the Seal is worn or damaged, it can also cause the appliance to make noise. We hope this helps!

So my washer starts and agitated at first and then it seems like it gets stuck in between cycles and doesn't want to move, then when it comes to draining and spinning it makes a humming sound without moving forward.
