Model numbers can be made up of numbers (1005400, for example) or a combination of letters and numbers (LAT1000AAE). The model number will most likely appear on either a paper sticker or a metal plate. This lid switch with wire harnesses is used in washing machines. The pin on the lid switch pushes onto the lever of the switch to communicate to the machine that the washer lid is closed. If your washing machine is not running when the lid is closed, not spinning, draining, or agitating, replacing the lid switch could solve the problem. The tools needed for this repair are: putty knife, 1/4 inch nut driver, wire strippers and crimpers. Refer to the manual for further installation instructions. Remember to unplug your washer from the power source as a safety precaution.

Washer would stop and not start at times?
Took off the front panel of the washer which exposed electrical wires going to top lid sensor. Took out old sensor installed new. Cut wires from old sensor and spliced wires from new sensor to machines wires that went to old sensor. Replaced front of washer. Washer works fine now.

Water temp will fill hot only with lid open. Close the lid and it is cold water only.
The video I watched said to remove front panel, control panel, and top panel. After I removed the front panel, I was able to remove the lid switch and splice the wires together and reinsert in the mounting without removing the other panels. Secured with wire tie and put front panel back in place. This did not, however fix the problem.

Machine would not agitate or spin
Ordered lid switch from parts select via website. Two days later I received the part in the mail. Instead or re-wiring, I cut wire close to existing bad switch. Splice two wires and cap with wire nuts. Zip tie loose wire to tub housing.

Washer fills and agitates, goes through wash cycle, drains but will not spin. Hums for a while, then indicator light goes off. Humming continues. Already tried changing the control panel. Did not solve the issue. Could it a faulty lid switch? Thank you for you help.

Hi Louie, Thank you for the question.If the washer is not spinning replacing the lid switch could solve the problem.The switch acts as a safety mechanism to prevent the washer from spinning when the lid is open. If the switch is defective, the washer will think the lid is open and will not start the spin cycle. Hope this helps!

Hello Bill, thank you for your question. If the unit is going through the fill and drain cycle, but is not agitating or spinning the first part you should replace is Lid Switch with Wire Harness Part Number: WH12X10334. This is the most common issue when dealing with your issue. I hope this helps!

GE top washer... when lid is closed only cold water flows and washer goes thru complete cycle as normal.. when lid is open hot and / or cold water flows dependent on what was selected and stops after fill.. check intake valve ok hot /cold and warm works ok

Won't agitate or spin, but water is exhausted. I'm not sure a new switch would solve the problem, since the machine makes some sound when it is supposed to agitate or spin. Should i buy the assembly and give it a try, or do you think it might be something else? Thanks.

Thank you for the great question. Normally if it was a switch you would not have sounds like it was trying to agitate. Checking the list of symptoms I suggest checking the belt, part number PS1482278. If you enter this part number into the search bar on our home page you will come up with a video on how to install the new belt, watching the video will show you how to get to the belt so you can check to see if it is broken or wore out and needs to be replaced.

When the washer is plugged in and you turn the dial, all the lights turn on but nothing happens when you push the start button.

Machine will fill with water and tub will spin but when it gets to the washing stage it stops and the machine just hums.

Hi Paula, Thank you for the question. If the machine is not go through each cycle I suggest replacing the Timer. The timer on this model is actually built into the Electronic Control Board,Part Number: PS8757105. If the lid switch was the issue the appliance woudl fill and agitate and go through the wash cycle but when it came time to spin out, the appliance would stop.Hope this helps!
