Product Description

Front Load Washer Door Lock and Switch Assembly Specifications

This door lock and switch assembly is manufactured to lock the door on your front load washer to prevent it from opening while it is running. You may need to replace the door lock and switch if the door does not open or lock. Your washer will not start if the door does not lock. This part is also known as a washing machine door lock assembly. As per the manufacturer, some models require a new wire harness and a door strike for this door lock assembly to work on the appliance. The original style lock would require the door lock kit.

Washer woild not spin out left clothes sopping wet
It was very good. They should have mentioned about the wire and spring to remove the rubber strip though. Found out about that in comments! Otherwise, very good!

Washer would not drain or spin
Removed the 4 screws holding the top on. Pulled top forward to release front catches and stood top up out of way. Removed 2 screws holding door lock. Could not unplug wire plugs from door lock because wires too tight. Removed 2 screws holding lower front panel and removed panel. Pulled door lock down and unplugged old lock and plugged in new lock. It was easier to position door lock to reinstall screws by working from top, so top removal wasn't a total waste of time. Reinstalled front panel and top. Machine works.

Error code was flashing DR which meant door failed to Lock and unit wouldn't start
I started with a Phillips head Screw driver and removed the screws from the current Door strike and replaced with a new one. To replace the Door Lock and switch assembly I had to access the right portion of the door gasket which was a little tricky, as it has a wire ring around the gasket to keep it in position. It has never been removed so it was fairly stuck so I took some pliers to pull on the gasket and ring to loosen it up. Once I got it off I was able to remove the Gasket just enough to access the electrical components to the Switch assembly. I loosened the screws on the current switch assembly using a Phillips head screw driver and removed it through the access point then unplugged the current wiring harness from the switch assembly and plugged the new switch assembly in. Then I tightened up the screws on the new switch assembly. re attaching the gasket was possibly the most time consuming as there is a metal lip on the door itself that the gasket has to wrap around in order to re attach the metal ring and hold everything in place. I took a flat head screw driver and ran it along the edges of the metal lip while pulling the gasket to secure it around the lip then I wrapped the metal around the gasket to secure it to the metal lip in the door ( Note: the metal ring has a spring that should be positioned at the bottom of the door once it's installed correctly, you will notice the gasket is shaped at the bottom to allow for the spring) Once I completed that I made sure all screws where tightened and then checked the unit to be sure it worked properly. It is working perfectly and no more error message.

Washer will fill and drain but will not spin or agitate
Went by the percentage of people with same problem- door switch was the highest. Ordered door switch and a new belt (belt was getting worn- 6 yrs. old) Door switch did not fix problem. Saw on website that it could be motor control board. Took motor control board out. Nothing visible wrong with anything. Decided not to spend $$ on new board. Figured new washer would be better. Put motor control board back in and tried it......works like new! Must have been a loose wire on the motor control board. Next time I will check wires first. :) Getting motor control board in and out was time consuming but no too hard.

Washer would not spin. Water remained in tub.
First of all I looked up the possible causes at partselect.com. The two likely choices were a door switch and/or the drain pump. I changed the door switch first. I removed the spring from the black boot. Pulled the boot away from the machine on the door switch side. Just the screw driver to remove the mounting screws from the from of the machine. This holds the door sw on the machine. After removing the screws i disconnected the wiring from the door sw. The wiring snaps in place. I then reversed this process and ran the machine. It worked so I didn't have to change the drain pump. I am keeping for backup as I have six of these washers.

In mid year le waster paused and keeps saying door open. I search all around door nothing hanging or caught, unplugged to reboot. Held door with pressure. Keeps saying door open. Fterchecking online i feel it must be the door lock assembly. Bu as it is a very high price part i would just like to see if you have any other suggestions before i start. I am not that mechanical but i think i can do it.

Hi Shelia, Thank you for your question. Most times when you are having that issue it is the door lock switch that is the issue. From the sounds of it, that does seem to be the problem. I hope that helps. Good luck with your repair.

I am in the process of re-installing the door lock/switch assembly. When i disconnected the three switch wiring harnesses, i failed to note the correct polarity of the harness for the wax motor; it appears as though that particular harness could be installed upside down. I'm afraid i might reverse the polarity when i reconnect it, and damage the wax motor upon start-up. Does the polarity of the wax motor's wiring harness matter when i plug it back into the door lock/switch assembly?
For model number GLTR1670AS1

Hello Timothy, Thank you for contacting us. Upon researching the part, we show that when reconnecting the wiring harnesses the red portion of the switch must be facing down. Basically the wiring needs to be installed in the same positions from which they were removed. Hope this helps!

Hello, my washer will not start. The door lock light will not turn on and the screen reads pause. Do you think there is a problem with the door latch or door sensor? Please advice. Thank you!
For model number FAFW3801LW5

Hello Debbie, thank you for inquiring. For this symptom you will want to replace either the Door Strike part PS890617, the Door Lock and Switch Assembly part PS12364048, or the Door Hinge with Bushings part PS1152380. We hope this helps.

Washer will start, fill, but not advance to wash cycle on regular setting. Washer will start, fill, wash, but not advance to rinse setting on delicate setting (sometimes stops again just before the end of the final spin). After it stops i can manually advance to rinse cycle on delicates setting only (on regular setting manually adjusting just make it try to fill again but it will not advance to wash). The entire time the door remains locked and the lock light is on. Is this still likely a problem with the door lock and switch assembly? Thank you!

Hi Erika, Thank you for your question. The issue is likely the door lock and a switch assembly, but you should also check the timer as well. I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!

The washing machine pumps but does not spin. I checked the lock switch and it is working. I removed the plug and the speed control unit measured the voltage drop between 2 and 4. It is 0 and I do not know where to go from here because I cannot find the motor thermal cut out. Can you help?
For model number GWT445RGS1

Hello Dave, Thanks for your question. There are a few different parts that could cause that issue. Examine the shock absorbers and the drive belt. Test the pump motor with a multimeter for electrical continuity, and replace it if it shows no continuity. I hope this helps.

The washer was working but all of a sudden it stopped working. The dryer works though. Tried resting breaker, door closes (no broken door latch), timer switch seems to be working, when timer switch is pulled sometimes the door lock light comes on briefly (rare). Not sure what’s wrong. Please advise on what part to buy. Thank you.

Hello Brian, Thank you for the question. This sounds like the washer timer is not sending the washer through the cycles, PartSelect #: PS1524654. Even if the door switch was defective, the washer should still fill with water and agitate but stop before it starts to spin. Hope this helps!

I need to replace my locking unit. Is there anyway to do it without going through the top of the washer? My dryer is on top of my washer in a closet and i can't move the dryer without a lot of difficulty. Thank you.

Hello Linda, thank you for your question. Unfortunately, the only way to access that lock would be through the top of the unit. Good luck with your repair.
