The dryer stops rotating / heating after approximately 5 minutes. If i bump it, it will restart and sometimes complete the cycle, other times it will stop again. I have replaced the dual coil, main coil, interlock switch, outlet thermostat, outlet thermister, inlet control therrmostat and safety thermostat. Is it the motor or am i missing something? How would i test the motor? Thanks!

Hi Andrew,
Thank you for your inquiry. Based on what you have tried already, I would check the motor and the electronic board. To test these parts to see which one is causing the issue you will need to use a multimeter. I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!

Thanks for the information on checking the motor. I measured 2-3 ohms of resistance across each terminal and got no reading across ground. I think this means the motor is good but would appreciate your perspective on that. Now, when I put the dryer back together, the motor will not start at all and the timer seems to have turned minutes into seconds. For example, what would have been a 40-minute timed cycle turns into a 40-second cycle without the motor or burner ever starting. Any other ideas?

Hello Andrew,
Thanks for your question. Your motor appears to be testing fine, but given your situation it sounds like the main control board may be at fault. We would recommend replacing it after inspecting it for signs of burning or shorted-out components.
I hope this helps.
Can you please provide a quick tutorial on how to test the motor and the board? What resistances and such? Across which points should I be looking for? Thank you!

Hello Andrew,
Thanks for your question. Disconnect the power source to your dryer before you conduct this or any other test. Either unplug the unit from the wall outlet, remove the appropriate fuse from the fuse box, or flip the appropriate breaker in the circuit breaker panel.
Locate your dryer's motor. You will have to open your dryer's cabinet in order to gain access to its motor.
Disconnect the motor's two wire leads from the wiring harness. Set your multimeter to the R x 1 setting. Touch each of the meter's probes to one terminal each. Your motor should show little resistance (a reading of zero, or close to zero).
Now check the ground connection. Place one probe on the bare metal housing of the motor. Place the other probe on each terminal, one at a time. You should not receive any reading on your meter from this test.
If your dryer's motor fails either of these tests, you will have to replace it.
I hope this helps!

I was told I need new motor. When turned on it’s panel lights up but the motor hums(?). Do you think this is what it needs. Also the drum is loose and spins when manually turning it. Thank you
For model number DCVH515EFOWW
Hello Melanie, thank you for your question. The drum should turn by hand, but should provide some resistance, so if the drum turns very easily and loosely, the belt is probably broken. Part number PS1766009. If the motor was bad the drum probably would not turn at all, so we suggest replacing the belt first. We hope this helps.
Hi Todd,
Thank you for your question. There are a couple of parts that you may want to check. I would suggest checking all of your thermostats to see if they are all working correctly. If any of your thermostats are not working, your machine will not continue with the cycle if it believes that the temperatures are not correct. You may also want to check your interlock switch as well. I hope that helps. Good luck with your repair.
