Question:

Can I run a rinse without the accumulator filter installed? (theres water in the bottom of the dishwasher and white gunk I want to rise out)

Paul for model number JDB1250AWP
Answer:

Hello Paul, Thanks for the interesting question. Yes it should be fine to run a ruinse cycle without the Accumalation Filter. The Accumulation Filter is there to catch any food or dibris and prevents it from getting back onto the dishes so without dishes to worry about there should be no issues. Thanks again for your great question!

Dishes had small bits of food stuck on

I removed the main plastic bolt with a pliers and then just used a screwgun with a star tip for all the screws.
I am a 43 year old woman with no experience and I was able to figure it out. The machine cleans much better now.

Dishes not getting clean. Soap residue on dishes after wash.

After disassembling accumulator assembly looking for reasons that washer not washing properly, I noticed accumulator filter had failed. The plastic (or whatever material it is) covering the holes was torn in a couple of different holes. Realizing that this was not the reason for the loss of pressure I investigated a little more and found that water arm going into the docking station was extremely worn with much play. Water pressure was compromised because of it. I replaced filter and docking station and now its like a new dishwasher again. Saved a dishwasher from the landfill!

The filter was dirty so the dishes came out dirtier than when I put them in.

Called a repairman, watched him take apart the base where the filter is. Took about 8 screws.
Told him the handle was broken. Asked him what he had to do to take out the handle. He told me all the screws around the inside of the door. Then he told me it was $284.00 to fix it. Thought about buying a new one, then went online to Partsselect.com. Talked with a tech, ordered the filter and the handle. Put the filter in and put back in the 7-8 screws. Then I put in the latch. It plugs into the main board with 2 wires that just slip back in. Took a little to snap the handle into place because I was afraid I would break it, but it's pretty tough. Put back in the screws around the door and it has worked fine since then. Note on screws: They are the funny shaped ones that fit the screwdriver or drill bit in sets that no one thinks they will ever use. By the way the parts cost about $50. with overnight shipping. Saved $230.00 for a half hour of my time.

Food debris on dishes; seeds stuck in spray arms

Remove mid and bottom rack. The nut on the bottom spray arm can be removed by hand; all screws are T-20; just hold on to the impeller to turn its screw. I keep a T-20 under the sink, which tells you something about how reliable we've found this model! Remove screws as you go down, replace parts as you go back up; assembly is reverse of removal, yadda, yadda. Don't miss opportunities to notice how Maytag keeps making small improvements to many of the parts, wonder whether in a few more years of purchasing replacement parts for this thing it will finally stop breaking. My wife informs me that plastic mesh filters like Maytag uses are something she buys for her lab as disposable single use items. We actually had a Bosch on order (metal filters) but I decided to give this unit one more infusion of parts. It's working better now, but I don't know how long it will last before something else gives out.

Dishes not cleaning properly

also had to replace heating element. Had to remove dishwasher from under counter to get to heat element. Initial installer used long braided steel water line and plug in electrical connection so removal was easy (10 min). Pulled (2) electrical terminals from heat element and (2) plastic retaining nuts put in new element w/matching nuts, element came w/seals. Check for leaks before installing back under counter. Then removed torx screws holding impeller cover and accumulator/filter removed old put in new after good cleaning of course. All is well.

Dishwasher wasn't getting dishes clean and was leaving food debris.

Removed the screws that held the spray arm. Remove dthe screws that held the flow filter flow plate assembly. Removed screw holding the impeller. Thoroughly cleaned all spray arms and associated tubing. Reassembled parts. Installed air gap assembly between dishwasher and garbage disposal (which I should have 4 years ago). Unit runs fine now.
