Timer knob popped off. Base rod into knob snapped. Needed new timer
Removed back panel screws. Left/Right, Center.
Grabbed Canned Air and sprayed inside panel. Lots of lint ...
Unscrew timer - Single center top screw. Tiny threads, kind of wide head.
Unplug 4 wire adapters .. (top/left/right/bottom).
All 4 pin adapters have unique A/B side. Can't mix up.
Reconnect wires, tighten top center screw.
Before closing up panel, plug in test with empty tumble to confirm if dryer heats up. (Gas Dryer).
All good, has worked great.

Unable to use heat selector knob which was always tight to turn and finally broke
First unplug it. Take off 4 screws on back of panel, remove two small screws where dryer screen is pulled out of, place a small screw driver under front part of cover and pop is up, careful not to brake, there will be two big spring type clamps you use player to remove on each side, flip cover on back and unplug all the connectors to the dryer timer, remove the few screws holding it, plug back in all the connectors, put back in and screw is back on, put spring clamps back on using pliers, tilt cover back in, snap cover back in, put screws back that you took out, put knob back on and done.

Can a bad timer stop the dryer from heating
PartSelect logo
Hi Steve, Thank you for your question. The timer consists of a small motor connected to a series of gears that rotate cams, which turn electric contacts off and on inside the timer. The timer contacts control the dryer motor as well as the heat circuit. A defect in the timer’s electrical contacts can cause the dryer to stop producing heat and the timer will need to be replaced. The contacts can be checked for continuity with a multi-meter. Unplug the dryer before conducting this test. Before you can begin to test your dryer's timer motor, you must first locate the device. It is a part of the timer assembly. Dryer timer assemblies are located behind the control console panel. You may only have to remove the screws securing the front control panel in place, or, depending on your model, your may have to remove the rear panel behind the control panel. Label the wires connecting to your timer motor so that you will be able to correctly reconnect them later. Carefuly remove the wires. Do not pull on the wire itself. Instead, use needle nose pliers to pull gently on the wire connector. Set your ohmmeter to the R x 1 setting. Take each probe and touch it to one wire. A normal reading for most dryers is in the 2000 to 3000 ohms range. Try to locate a schematic for your dryer. It should be in one of the service areas of your dryer or in the owner's manual. This schematic should indicate the proper resistance reading for your specific timer motor. If the reading you receive from testing your timer's motor differs greatly from the range presented here, then you should replace your timer motor, or the entire timer assembly. I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!

How do i test to see if the timer control is the problem. I replaced several other parts and only get heat at the end of cycle on less dry. Otherwise the dryer never ignites. I did the thermostat, ignitor, and several other parts already with the same issue still

The dryer works and dries clothes, but the cycle knob only works in one position when using the automatic drying. It won't turn on unless it is at a certain position near the energy preferred area. And once it times out, I have to go back past the beginning of the cycle. I'm not sure what part is malfunctioning.

As for my last question you answered the thermal fuse checked good
For model number WGD5200VQ1

Hi Danny, thank you for your question. When you are experiencing an issue like this there are a few parts that you will have to test to determine what is causing your issue. For all of these parts you can test them with a multi meter. First you will have to test your thermostats and thermal fuses to make sure they are all functioning correctly. After that you will want to test parts in this order, your m series coils, igniter itself, or your radiant flame sensor. You may also want to check your regulator just to make sure that part is functioning properly as well. Something else you should also check would be your filter and ducts. Make sure there is absolutely no blockage that would restrict air flow in your appliance. I hope that helps. Good luck with your repair.

Gas dryer only worked on one cycle. Thought it might be the timer. Took it out, checked and cleaned contacts, put it back and doesn't work at all. No igniter now, fuses test good. However when taking the timer off the motor screws had to be taken out to remove plate, and motor came out of shaft for timer. Put it back on, but now it won't ignite igniter, so no heat. Would timer being out of sync when i put the motor back in possibly be the issue?
