strike plate was bent from being slammed
bent back into place using pliers. Having the exact part is essential, so anyone having any kind of repair to do should understand: NEVER THROW AWAY ANY OLD PARTS at least until you can establish that you have accomplished an effective replacement and the repair works as it should. too many times folks will toss the old parts and then order the wrong part(s) b/c they were too hasty - then it becomes necessary to return and exchange about 3 times before finally getting a part that will do the job. thanks to you guys for having such a perfect selection of the parts even for old appliances.

Door latch not working
Watch a YouTube video to replace the latch. The strike, removes easily by gently prying out with a screw driver on both sides. You do NOT have to pull out the dishwasher as some you tube videos show.

Door pops open easily
We have been living with this problem for a couple of years. My wife resorted to leaning a chair with a bag of potatoes against the door. As time went on, she had to use heaver and heaver potatoes. Soon, nothing would hold the door shut. As a last resort (after calling Kitchen Aid and finding out my extended warranty that was paid for 5 years wouldn't cover the repair due to some technicality), I decided to try and replace all three items that could contribute to the door not staying shut. The Strike Plate, Door Latch and Door Seal. Parts were easy to find on the web site and delivered from PartSelect in record time. The installation was fairly easy. I loosened the star head screws holding the Stainless outer front panel to the inner panel. These are located all around the inside of the door. The Stainless front panel then separated a bit, like a "V". I didn't completely remove the front panel as there seemed to be some wires connected that I didn't want to mess with. So I just tilted it forward and reached inside to remove the 2 screws holding the door latch. Replaced it and the door seal. Removing the strike plate required slipping a knife under the plate and releasing the spring prongs from he sides. It all seemed very intuitive. Even though we were expecting to be dishwasher shopping the next day - The door stayed shut and has worked great now for a month.

Dishwasher hard to start and stopped mid-cycle.
Thanks to info on this website, I learned that the strike plate can cause this problem. The strike plate is like a super large paper clip that can easily become bent out of shape in two places. When the piece that slides into the door switch is bent, the problem is visible, and the strike plate can be adjusted by hand. However, when the piece under the counter is bent, the problem is not visible, and contact is not made. Installing the new part is a snap. After pulling the dishwasher out from under the counter a few inches, the old strike plate is removed by hand, and the new one slips right in.

Dishwasher door would not close properly, pop open
We watched the PartSelect U tube video. Watching the PartSelect video ensured us that the door balance and rope to rear springs were installed properly. The door balance link kit was installed. The strike plate was easy to install. The door was aligned, strike plate installed. The dishwasher is operating perfectly and quiet too.

latch pops open on door during cycle...
Replaced strike plate...but may not have needed it ...He used a screw under the front of the strike plate as a wedge to increase tension...He said this has happened to this model before and an old tech told him about this fix...
It must be a defect in the model that after a while the strike plate needs more tension..sent unopened ,unused parts back

How do I know if the problem is just the latch or just the striker or do I have to replace both?
For model number KUDI02CRWH0

Would damage to the striker be that it is at the wrong angle to connect with the latch? In the video, i could see that the striker was at angle from the horizontal end, but couldn't see how much of an angle. I guess i need to know the degrees of that bend. Gotta get this worked out, dishes are piling up! Yes, i know i could wash them by hand, but, isn't that why i have a dishwasher? K

Hi K, Thank you for your question. Unfortunately we would not have the information on the angle of the part. However if you take a look at the third photo of the part that we have on the site, that would indicate what the angle should be. However, if your door strike was bent at the wrong angle, you more than likely would not even be able to close your door. I hope that helps. Good luck with your repair.
