Dryer will only start in certain positions on the dial, will not run whole cycle
Unplug the appliance. Pop off the top of the dryer and be careful that the tensioners do not fall down into the dryer. (I lost one.) Remove all the metal screws from the back of the control panel. Take photos of the timer and all of it's connections to make sure you reattach everything in the correct place. Unscrew the screws holding
... Read more the time in place and unplug all the wires, gently, but firmly. Plug wires into NEW timer using your photos as a guide. Make sure all connections are tight. Plug in the dryer and test the timer. Unplug the dryer. Place the new timer in it's spot noting the correct position with your photos. Tighten down the screws. Replace the panel on back of control panel with all screws. I took the opportunity to clean the dryer and the floor while it was pulled away from the wall and installed a new vent hose as well. Scoot the boss back in place, plug it in, and get the laundry going again!

Timer stopped working and I went to YouTube to find out how to test the timer.
I took two pictures of the timer wires after I removed the top. I then. removed and opened the mechanism and found a contact had burned completely off. I ordered the new timer and installed it using the wiring pictures that I took. It was an esy fix thanks to You Tube and having the exact OEM timer.

Dryer was not heating in timed mode. It was heating in other modes. Thermal cut-off broke in testing.
1/4 inch nut driver to remove panel back cover(6), timer unit(2), and cut-off(1). Pliers to aid in removing single wires from components. Most wires on timer were in position specific connectors.

Dryer quit working. Could no get it to start. Previous week could get it to start by playing with the selector switch.
Unplugged the power. Removed the back panel. Removed the switch knob and removed the screws that held it in. Reinstalled the new part. Removed the wires from the old switch and installed them one at a time. Put the selector knob and reinstalled the back panel. Plugged the dryer in. Working great!

Removed top panel in back of dryer. removed two hex head screws holding timer in place. Removed seven wires all color coded from timer, wires all are clip on for easy removal. Clipped wires to new timer and installed timer back in with the two hex head screws then replaced upper back panel. Plugged dryer back into electric socket. Job

Depending on where on the cycle selector dial i'm at, sometimes the dryer will not start when i hit the start button. When i move the selector dial a little bit, the dryer will start. Likewise, sometimes the dryer will just stop in mid-cycle, but if i come and move the dial a small bit, it will start back up. Is this a problem with the selector switch?

Hello Jeff, thank you for inquiring. This sounds like a faulty Timer, this part number PS11746606 is the replacement for your model. You may also want to consider the Thermal Fuse, part number PS11741460. You can test the Thermal Fuse with a multi-meter. Set the multi-meter to Rx1, touch the probes to each terminal, and test for continuity. The reading should be of zero or infinity for it to be functioning correctly. Good luck with your repair!

I have tested the door switch, start switch, and thermal fuses with a continuity tester. All are working fine.When I close the door and hit the start switch, all I can hear is the motor for the timer going. How can I test the timer or the motor to make sure that they are working.Is there a way of jumping the timer to see if that is the problem?

Hi Bill, Thank you for the question.You will need to see if there is power to the timer. If you are getting 120vac between BU and WB then you have a bad timer. You can also try and turn the knob to the next cycle to see if it starts.If it does then the timer is not advancing though the cycles and is bad. You can also press the door switch in and try to turn the drum by hand to see if it starts to spin. If it starts the motor is bad. To test the motor with the meter, Using a multi-meter, set it to AC volts. Touch the red probe to the left terminal screw and then touch the black probe to the middle screw. You should read 120 volts. Then touch the red to the middle and the black to the right screw, you should get 120 volts. Touch the red to the left screw and the black to the right screw, you should read 240 volts. Hope this helps!

Dryer shuts it self off in the middle of cycles. You can wiggle cycle knob back and forth a touch and dryer comes back on.

Hi. My gas dryer runs a timed general cycle, shuts off but the timer doesn't advance to off and we still smell a small amount of propane until we manually turn the knob to off. Timer or gas burner assem.? thanks.

Hello Walter, thank you for your question. It sounds like the unit is functioning great when running through a cycle, but not shutting off after the cycle is complete. I would recommend testing/replacing the Timer - 60Hz Part Number: WP8566184 and the Door Switch - 3 Wire Part Number: WP3406107 first. Our Kenmore electric dryer will not start randomly. When this happens, we can move the timer knob a very small amount and then push the start button and it will run. Do you think the timer is the problem, or is there something else that i may look at?

Auto dry has not worked for a while and now will not start on the timed setting or any setting. Is this typical if the timer pukes completely ?

Hello Dean, thank you for your question. If the unit is tumbling but not heating the most likely issue is a thermostat or fuse. We would recommend testing those thermostats and the fuse first. If the unit does not start and tumble at all, we would recommend testing the fuse, start switch, door switch and the timer. I hope this helps.

I just replaced the element and the dryer and the fuses. The drum turns, and the fan runs but still no heat. I tested the timer for continuity, and it appears that it's working correctly. What are the odds it's the timer or could it be something else?
