Easy repair, works great.
The washer now starts every time after closing the lid. A lot better than occasionally having to press down on the rear left corner of the lid to activate the lid switch. Thanks. This also gave me the chance to clean the lid area after 12 years of use. Looks like a new machine now.

What is the sensor bar on the left and right side of the lid called and would assume they start the washing cycle (when door down) after tub has filled with water. My problem - tub fills up but then machine does not start the next cycle. I've lifted up the lid several times and sometimes the cycle does begin - but will not do this any longer
For model number 2008 MTW5900TW
Hi Connie,
Thank you for your question. We do not see a sensor listed on the lid, but there is a lid seal that runs along the inner front of the lid. If your washer is not starting correctly, the issue is likely the the lid switch. The pin on the lid pushes on the lever of the lid switch to tell the machine that the lid is closed. This part includes the green grounding wire. If your machine is having trouble starting, the lid switch will need to be replaced. We hope this helps! If you have any questions, please let us know.
