My dishwasher runs fine, however, the black gasket in the bottom of my dishwasher looks like it is deteriorating. Should I replace the gasket now or wait until there is truly something wrong with the appliance?

STACI for model number KUDP01ILBL1

Hi Staci, Thank you for the question, I suggest replacing it before it becomes a problem and causing a leak under the appliance. Depending on your flooring this can be an expensive problem. Good luck with the repair!

Replaced gasket before due to deterioration but new gasket (1.5 yr) is doing same thing. Leaves black spots on dishes and if wipe gasket looks like towel used on dirty grease. Suggestions before I replace again. Cause? Water ph about 5.7

Bill for model number kudi01tj

Hi Bill, Thank you for your inquiry. The gaskets will deteriorate over time. Yours does seem to have done it a little bit faster, but I unfortunately I do not know of a way that you can prevent that from happening. Good luck with your repair.

Water was leaking.

This unit was unique that whole motor assembly was held in its place by two plastic clip. The gasket had few rings that worked as place holder, although gaskets don't go bad often this model could be if it gets pulled alot and if motor assembly get pushed it will push up the gasket and cause a leak. Repair was simple, 1) take spray arm off from inside. 2) get under neath the dishwasher, take off wires so it would free up some room, pulled two plastic holder out, gently push the motor assembly up to the tub, 3) from inside the tub, pull up the assembly enough to get your hand under the gasket and pull them off. 4) Replace the gasket, align the assmebly and push down to snap in the gasket. 5) get under and push in two plastic clip back in, put wires back into its place. Back in the tub to push down the assembly again to make sure there are flush with surface. Put spray arm back on. Finished.

Chopper not performing

I noticed some residue in the dishwasher so I decided to clean the chopper screen. I dismantled the screen and spray assemblies and removed the chopper. The chopper was extremely worn and the chopper washer/gasket was missing. I reassembled the parts I removed and as I was placing the screws in the screen assembly I dropped a screw into the impeller well. Since the screws are stainless I was forced to remove the whole motor assembly. Since I had to order a chopper I went ahead and ordered a motor assembly gasket for reassembly. The mistake I made was not ordering a drain valve at the same time for when I removed the valve to clean it the rubber separated. The dishwasher will not function without it. This is where PartsSelect really came through for me. The 2-3 day shipping came in 2 days and the drain valve which was really going to hold me up with standard shipping came the very next day! Way to go PartsSelect! Everything went back together just fine.

Black specs on dishes

Found the gasket to be wearing out. Once I got the part I took everything apart inside to find that I could have just taken the dishwasher out and replaced from the bottom. It was not difficult, but I've installed a ton of dishwashers. For the average homeowner, this is can be a difficult job since it requires plumbing and electrical skills.
