Washing machine "Walks" due to vibration of drum in spin cycle
First, unplug the power cord to avoid electric shock!

Then:
1. Open the drawers in the sub-base, remove the screws on the left and right side rails, and remove the drawer.

2. Remove the three torx head screws along the bottom of the front cabinet cover and remove the cover.

NOTE: There are sharp metal edges exposed inside of the cabinet. A heavy long sleeve shirt and gloves are recomended when working in this area to prevent injury.

3. With a pair of pliers, grip the end of the front right shock absorber near the attachment point and rotate counter-clockwise. Repeat procedure at other end of shock absorber. (note: this may destroy the plastic end of the shock absorber, but you're going to replace it with a new one anyway.)

4. With the front shock absorber out of the way, you can now reach the rear shock absorber on the same side and repeat the removal procedure. (note: Be sure to take note of which end of the shock absorber is up and which end is down. This will be important when installing the new ones.)

5. Install the new rear shock absorber by first inserting the lower end into the slot in the base plate and rotating it 1/4 turn clockwise by hand. it should snap into place easily. Then insert the upper end into the plastic drum attachment point and rotate it 1/4 turn clockwise.

6. Install the new front shock absorber by the same procedure, then procede to the left side shock absorbers using steps 3, 4, & 5.

Note: While the cabinet is open, now is a good time to clean out the pump strainer located front and center.

7. Re-install the front cabinet cover using the three torx head screws. (note: the machine will not operate without the cabinet cover in place.)

8. Adjust the leveling legs so that the machine is level and each leg supports an equal amount of the machine's weight.

9. Reinstall the sub-base drawer and plug in the power cord.

On high spin washer shakes bad and has a loud thumping noise. Is it most likely the shock absorbers and/or drum springs? If shocks should i replace all 4? All appear to be in same condition thanks renn
For model number GHW9400PL0

Hi Renn, Thank you for your inquiry. Usually in most cases like this it is your shock absorbers. It may be a good idea to replace all four but you certainly do not have to. I would suggest just looking at each one of your shocks. You will know if your shocks are bad if you can grab each end and easily pull the metal portion out of the housing. You should not be able to pull the two pieces that make up the shock apart. Good luck with your repair.

How many shocks does this washer take and how do you know how many to buy without taking the machine apart?
For model number GHW9200LW
PartSelect logo
Hi Lee, Thank you for your inquiry. Most machines take 4 shocks, however I would advise taking the back panel off of your machine to look inside and double check. Some models will only take 3 shocks. I hope that helps. Good luck with your repair.

I replaced all 4 shocks and the 2 springs less than a year ago. How long should they last and what causes them to come apart?
For model number GHW9400PL1
PartSelect logo
Hi Dana, Thank you for your question. If you just replaced the parts less than a year ago, then they should still be in good condition. If they are already worn or damaged from use, you will need to speak to the business you bought them from as you may be under warranty for the parts you purchased. I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!

Error code: F 06 Condition: Motor tachometer failure Check/repair: Unplug the washer and check the wire harness connections between the motor control board and the drive motor. Check the wire harness connections between the motor control board and the main electronic control board. Reconnect any loose wires or replace any damaged wire harnesses. If the wiring connections are okay, check to see if the spin basket rotates smoothly. If not, remove any obstruction between the spin basket and tub. If the spin basket rotates smoothly, replace the drive motor. If the problem continues, replace the motor control board. I have 2 broken shocks both in back. Could this be causing the issue?
For model number GHW9400PL1
PartSelect logo
Hi Dana, Thank you for your question. If the shocks are broken, this may cause an issue with the washer not operating properly and I would recommend replacing them. If this does not fix the issue, you will need to have a technician come and diagnose the problem. I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!
