Both door latch parts broke, one on the door and the other on the washer.
When I looked at the website for latch repair they showed a video (can't remember which brand but not Amana) where you had to take off the top and front of the washer to get at the latch part on the washer. For the Amana I had, you simply had to pull out a portion of the rubber gasket held onto the washer by a wire/spring combination (you can take the wire off) to get at the latch assembly. You could then undo the three screws holding the latch to the washer, pull it out and unplug the three wiring connections to remove the old latch. Then plug connections into the new latch, reinstall, tighten screws and fit gasket and wire/spring assembly back together. Much easier than going thru the top and front of the washer!

Door latch would not lock
Removed 2 screws from rear of top that hold top of washer in place, lifted top at the rear and slid it back then lifted it off. Removed the three wiring harnesses from old switch, removed the three screws holding switch in place, theses are accessed from the door opening. removed the two lower screws first and held the switch from the top while removing the last screw. Placed new switch in place and started the top screw by hand followed by hand starting the remaining two screws, tightened screws with phillips screw driver, reconnected the three harnesses, reinstalled the top and secured with the two screws. Door locks and unlocks as it is supposed to.

door would not latch , and lights on front just flashed
1)I removed the bottom front panel, reached up the right side of the machine and pulled the manual release on the bottom of the latching mechanism.2)I then removed the top to the machine in order to gain access to the latch. 3)I removed three electrical connectors then the three mounting screws using a #15 Torx driver. I then reversed the reverse procedure to install the new latch. total time to do the job was less than half an hour. Machine works OK.

Part of door latch broke along with door handle.
We had never attempted anything like this. But on Youtube we located a video of the repair. The video convinced us that the repair would be both easy and fast. On Partselect the process of locating and ordering the appropriate parts was amazing easy. Approximately 10 minutes after the parts arrived the repairs were finished, and we're still crowing over our achievement.

Hello.... i have a Whirlpool front load washer... the machine lights up and you can change or make any selections on the panel but when i push start nothing happens other than the light on the selector knob flashes.... the door does latch closed but normally when i hit start i hear it lock... do you feel that it could be a bad door lock or main computer? thanks for your impute.

Hi David, Thank you for your inquiry. Where your washer is not starting the part that fixes the issue the majority of the time is the door lock latch. I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!

Machine will not start, nor will it do anything when we try different settings, their is a red light lower left that says control locked.
For model number GHW9100LW2

Hello Bill, Thank you for your inquiry. "Control Locked" means that the child lock feature which prevents the machine from starting is turned on, try pressing and holding the End of Cycle signal button on the right side of the panel for 15 seconds. Hope this helps!

My washer was running through a cycle during a storm and the power went on and off a few times. The washer cut off and will not power back on. I checked the breaker and the outlet and both are working. The clothes were locked in so I watched a video how to release the door mechanism and got the clothes out. I called a local repair company and the tech came out and didn't do anything but plug it in and checked the breaker. He then said its either the do locking mechanism or the main control board and he would call me back with a price for both. Shouldn't there be a way to diagnose which it is so I don't have to pay for both and only hope one works?

Hi Dave, Thank you for the question. If there is no lights coming on and it is not powering on at all then It would more then likely be the control board. Usually with the door lock the lights on the control board will still come on but you would get a error or the door would not open but it would still power on. Hope this helps!

I have a Whirlpool duet washer machine replaced part number wpa182634 Whirlpool replacement latch for door . Still not working code f dl still coming on. What do i do??
For model number GHW9400PW0
PartSelect logo
Hello Christina, thank you for your question. The F/DL does indicate a door lock failure. The door lock assembly, control board and harness would be the parts that might cause this problem. Try pushing in on the door while it is trying to lock and see if there is any improvement. Make sure the connections are tight. Quite a few other customers had the same issue, and checked the connections to make sure they were tight and that fixed the issue. If the latch connections are nice and tight, the other issue could be the control board itself. I hope this helps!

I have a Kenmore front loading washer. There is a small, spring loaded button, which seems to act as a safety of some kind in conjunction with the door latch. It has broken off. The washer will not operate without it engaged. Is it an integral part of the door lock (part number 8181700?) do i need to replace the entire door lock to repair this small piece of plastic?
For model number 110.42922200
PartSelect logo
Hi Tim, Thank you for your question. This spring is referred to as the door lock plunger spring. It holds tension against the plunger to push the plunger into the door latch. If the spring has broken you will need to replace it. I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!

Hi Wesley, Thank you for your question. If the washer will not start, there are some parts that you will need to check to see which ones are causing the issue. You will need to check the door lock latch, the door lever and the drain pump. I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!

I have a Maytag front loading washer model number mfw9600sq0. I just replaced the door latch, but it didn't fix my issue. The water runs into the washer, however it never spins, it just sits there quietly until it's time to drain, which it does fine. It's like my whole spin cycle is missing. Occasionally i will also get a short quick buzz noise. Any other ideas on how to trouble shoot this? Thanks
For model number MFW9600SQ0

Hi Holly, Thank you for the question. Sounds like the timer that sends the appliance into the cycles is defective. When the timer is defective it can skip one or more cycles or not advance at all. The timer for your model is built into the Electric Control Board. Hope this helps!

I have the same problem as others. I replaced a broken door lever and the latch assembly will not accept it. Customers Leon and Tim had the same problem. Leon says "to reset latch in latch assembly you remove the black plastic only on latch assembly then press the spring..." etc.(his comment is in latch section.) I assume he's talking about "the door lock plunger spring" per PartSelect's reply. I would like to try adjusting the spring before replacing the whole latch assembly. Based on the photo of the part, could someone describe where this spring is located on the assembly? As reference, I am using the 3rd photo on the PartSelect website (where you see 3 smaller photos under a big one). I have not yet opened the machine. A good reference point is the ring shaped piece at the end (which I think faces down when the part is installed). Toward the center there are what looks like 2 springs, but three people have referred to a single spring. would appreciate your advice. Thank you. I think you might be able to scroll up from here to see the photo or go to https://www.partselect.com/ps11745016 Whirlpool wp8182634 door lock latch.htm?sourcecode=5&searchterm=nfw7200tw&modelnum=nfw7200tw&modelid=6785848

Hi Anne, Thank you for your question. Based on the photograph there are 2 springs inside the door lock. The spring Tim is referring is the door lock plunger spring. It holds tension against the plunger to push the plunger into the door latch For more information, there is a video listed with the part on our website that you may reference for more information on how to install the door lock. I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!
