OVEN DOOR HANDLE BROKEN AT ATTACHING POINT

LAY OVEN DOOR ON A FLAT SURFACE ( HANDLE DOWN AND HANGING OFF SURFACE) WITH A TOWEL TO PROTECT THE GLASS. 3. REMOVE ALL SCREWS AROUND THE PERIMETER OF THE DOOR.. 4. CAREFULLY SEPARATE THE DOOR FRONT AND BOTTOM BRACKET BY SLIDING AWAY FROM THE MAIN DOOR INNER-ASSEMBLY, ( THE FRONT GLASS IS HELD BY THE TOP CHANNEL. 5. TURN THE MAIN DOOR INNER ASSEMBLY OVER AND REMOVE THE HANDLE ASSEMBLY TWO ATTACHING BRACKETS. 6. REMOVE THE ATTACHING BRACKETS FROM THE HANDLE AND ATTACH TO THE NEW HANDLE. 7. THE DOOR GLASSES CAN NOW BE CLEANED 8. ATTACH THE NEW HANDLE ASSEMBLY 9. REASSEMBLE IN REVERSE ORDER. ( BE CAREFUL WHEN SLIDING FRONT DOOR GLASS INTO THE TOP DOOR CHANNEL}
Door Handle plastic part holding handle to door broke.
Ordered new handle removed door from oven by pulling up and out. Removed approximately 5 screws on bottom 2 screws each on sides. Removed side pieces. Removed front glass. Removed old door handle. Had to tap the new door screw holes to accept a 10 X 3/4" Sheet Metal screw. Installed new handle and replaced the oven glass and side pieces. Slide the door back onto oven door brackets.
The handle on the upper oven broke off at both attachment points.
The repair process is not logical. It appears as if it were engineered for the average person to not be able to fix it. The advice from previous posters was invaluable. Remove the door from the hinges. Then remove all the screws from the four outer panels. The glass window will fall out, be careful. It's OK, though, it probably needs cleaned like ours did. The new handle is now easily replaced. However, the replacement handle has cheap, plastic attachment points, vice the original's metal ones (which broke after a couple years.) As I was screwing in one of the new screws, I felt it already stripping...at least I now know how to replace the handle when it breaks again.
Partselect.com beat Maytag on the overall price. Maytag sold the handle cheaper but the screws were three time the cost and shipping was twice the cost. I bought the standard shipping (2-3 days) , but the part came the next day! Yea Partselect!!
This is what I learned: Partselect is great...Maytag makes junk.
Be prepaired to take the glass out. Unexpected, but not too hard. A right angle screw driver can be helpful for the bottom door. Takes some skill and patience. Good Luck! I am happy with the parts. Delivery time was quick.
