The blower wheel is a squirrel cage type wheel whose purpose is to move the air through the room or appliance. The blower wheel spins on the motor shaft to blow air through the dryer drum and out through the exhaust.

Dryer is hot, tumbler is turning, but no air flow. Is this the fan assembly? Thx
For model number 86980800
Hi Larry,
Thank you for your question. If there is no air circulation then I would check the blower wheel. There are some other parts that you will need to check as well to see which one is causing the issue. You will need to check the thermal fuse, the thermal cut-off, the cycling thermostat, the high limit thermostat, the thermostat heater, the belt and the heating element connection wire. I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!

How do you know if the blower wheel should be replaced? I turned on the dryer and put my hand on the inlet area and there was a very minute air flow. The dryer heats up, but you have to run the dryer at least twice to get the clothes dry.
For model number Medc400vw0
Hello Michelle, thank you for your question. I would recommend opening up the back of the dryer and cleaning it out really well. The blower wheel may just be clogged with lint. If that isn't the issue, we would recommend testing the thermostats, and checking to be sure the blower wheel is spinning well and not broken or cracked. I hope this helps!

My unit is very noisy, i took the back cover and duct off and noticed the blower fan is missing a fin, probably from me leaving dry wall screws in my pockets. Will a damaged fan make the unit sound noisy?
For model number wgd5000dw2
Hello Alex, thank you for inquiring. Yes, this could cause the noise. This Blower Wheel is the replacement for your model.

Bought motor, then bought blower wheel also
couldn't get blower wheel off of the motor. really tight. rounded off the wheel's square hub while trying to hold it still as I turned the motor shaft out. No, I wasn't turning it the wrong way :) I ended up going to the back of the dryer and using the multimax to quickly cut the wheel away from the hub. I love that oscillating saw! Just for fun, I put the motor in a bench vise and got the wheel hub off (in pieces). VERY tight! Ordered new wheel, and the job was smooth sailing from there on. I am guessing that experienced repair people automatically order the motor and blower wheel at the same time(?) BTW both parts were perfect matches for the originals. Not surprised; this has always been my experience with partselect.com!

replaced the fan
I had to remove the back, top and the tumbler to get to the fan...there are instuctions near the motor that tell you how to remove the fan and in which direction to turn...really is easy, just keep track of how the tumbler belt is routed on the pulley of the motor before you take it off.

Motor humming- drum would not turn
Followed the simple directions provided. Suggest dis-assembling the dryer before ordering the parts as it was then I discovered that the idler wheel was bad and the belt was cracking. The idler wheels should be replaced in pairs. When the unit is dis-assembled is an excellent opportunity to vacuum out the lint from all of the interior areas of the dryer. The new motor wiring was different from the old motor. The instructions should be more clear as the old motor wires were not marked. There were two red wires and two black wires in the motor wire harness. Since I have prior experience with motors I was be to determine which of the red and black wires were the primary power leads - someone with less experience may have a problem with this. Suggest changing one wire at a time and install the motor in the motor mount until the wires have been installed.

Dead motor
1. Shut off gas and disconnected dryer. 2. Opened cabinet. Easy sheet metal screws and fairly obvious how everything goes together. NB: You'll need a block (or a helper to hold things while you run to look for one) to hold the drum while removing the front. 3. The motor is connected with a single harness, so wiring is a snap. 4. Removing the blower wheel from the back was hard. I braced the motor shaft and turned with all the leverage I could muster, but it was stuck. Plan B: Recip saw to cut the shaft. Motor comes out one side and the fan comes out the other. 5. The fan, of course, was unusable because there was still a piece of motor shaft stuck in the thread. This is why I had to spring for a new wheel. 6. Put everything back together and receive wife's adoring praise...

Motor failure
Used this resource and others' advice -thank you . Make sure to disconnect power first. I had replaced the rollers and tensioner a week earlier due to squeaking, but mine was the rare one where squeaking meant motor failure, so I had to place another parts order. The dryer was 19 years old, and my blower wheel did not simply 'unscrew with reverse threads'. During removal the blower wheel's plastic deformed, so had to do like someone else did and cut the rear shaft with a reciprocating saw. Just be careful not to damage the bulkhead's built-in bracket that anchors the rear of the motor. I think it was a 13/16" wrench that fit the blower wheel and I forget the size for the pulley nut on the front of the motor, but I suggest a deep socket since it held well. My best advice when dealing with a motor replacement is to ensure the blower wheel wheel will separate successfully from the motor before placing your parts order should it be a stubborn removal. Good luck.
I have not received the parts yet waiting on the motor, can’t put the blower fan in without the motor, ordered it , Jan 23rd, still no motor, have to go to laundry mat, have you ever had to do that with 7kids, and you and your wife’s laundry, probably not, because you would have had your motor by now. Maybe you can help me with the part so I can redo a testimonial here for you. 19 days and still waiting

broken blower wheel
It went well, I followed the instruction video and referred back to it if any questions or difficulty. The instructor on the video was obviously very experienced and duplicating his actions exactly was very helpful, One thing I noticed that wasn't mentioned was that the thread on the wheel / motor is left handed.

Blower (fan) assembly and old model motor with different electrical connections
1 Vice grips are required to remove the fan/blower. Clamp on inside of dryer so you can remove the blower/fan assembly
Recommend 10" or larger 14" will definitely do the job
2. Blower/fan is reverse threaded when facing the back of the dryer. That is how I broke mine. Turn clockwise to loosen - feels very unnatural
3. If you have to replace the 5 & 6 electrical connectors, you have to have a barrel crimper for insulated terminals - IWISS SN-02C RATCHET TERMINAL CRIMPING PLIER TOOL, 24-14AWG is a good example
The wiring on the new motor is not compatible with older motor (ours is over 30 years old) so we had to clip off old connectors and wire on new ones. There was only one motor clamp (should have read description more closely). The new one was difficult to put on. This would only be a one hour job if
Numbet one - unplugged the dryer. Then disassembled dryer (front panel, loosened vent from top panel and removed drum). Removed motor after carefully documenting wires and their corresponding numbers, along with pictures. Read directions several times to assure we understood process. Followed instructions for replacing connectors. Used pliers and screwdriver to install motor clips. This took numerous, patient attempts. We also had to partially remove the vent in order to reinstall the motor. Then replaced drum, front cover, reattached vent to top cover. Reattached outside vent hose. Plugged dryer in and tested it. Motor replacement worked fine and fixed the problem (squealing).
After watching the U Tube video to replace flywheel, I had a appliance repairman come to my home to install flywheel. There was no way I would have been able to put the dryer back together without some help. I want to say "Thank You" to the sales representative who assisted me when purchasing my items, she was very patient while running around the house looking for the model number of the dryer.
