Two questions. Does this part look like a belt? We had a piece of rubber hanging under our washer. I initially thought it was a belt... the only item I see is the noise band. It says it fits in the clutch housing. the picture does not show clearly where this item goes. Is it necessary for the unit to run? I have ordered the clutch ring because the washer was not spinning.

HI Charles, Thank you for the question. This ring is located in the clutch housing, this ring is used only to muffle any sound. It is made of rubber and is commonly mistaken for a belt but all it does is dampen the brake housing for sound purposes.The appliance will work without it but it will be noisy. Hope this helps!

If the sound deadening ring for ETW4400WQ1 model number becomes lose or worn can it cause a burning smell? We're getting s burnt rubber smell and this ring looks very worn.

Hi Patrick, thank you for the question. The sound dampening ring, part number PS11743335, that you mentioned, can cause a burning smell. As it mounts on the brake shoe housing and absorbs the sound of the brake shoes rubbing on the housing. We would recommend replacing the sound dampening ring if it is damaged.
