The ice maker thermostat, also known as the cycling thermostat, controls and regulates the ice maker ejection cycle by monitoring the temperature inside the freezer to determine when to release the ice into the bin and start the ice making cycle again. If your ice maker is making unusual noises, or if the ice maker is not making or dispensing ice, there could be an issue with the thermostat. Before you begin this repair, make sure the power is disconnected from your refrigerator, and that any food that may spoil is safely stored. It is the thermal contact point between the face of the thermostat and the ice tray. Expensive as heck, but unfortunately necessary. PartSelect should offer a very small tube for a small cost rather than a huge tube that you will never use for $27. Anyway, I put both the control board and thermostat in and an hour later was making ice again. Total cost was just over $100 for everything including shipping. Ice maker not initiating harvest cycle (not making ice)

... Read more to replace the thermostat (#PS380941) there is something you will need that is not included with the part or mentioned anywhere on this site. The instructions with the thermostat indicate you need to apply something called "Aluminastic" to the thermostat when installing it. I don't know about you, but that isn't something I have around the house, so be sure to order a tube of it when you get the thermostat so you don't have to take a trip to the store to get it to finish the repair.

As it turns out, the water solenoid was sticking due to a deteriorated rubber washer which let the solenoid plunger get too far out of the magnetic field. I replaced the water solenoid assy and all is well. Don't get fooled by hotwiring the valve. If it isn't getting water, the solenoid probably is the culprit.

The easiest thing to do was pull the ice make off. After taking the 3 screws out of the wall of the freezer, take a screwdriver (flathead) and push on the tab for the electrical plug and wiggle the cord out. I am a service tech and know troubleshooting ice makers . I just would like some knowledge on how this icemaker is removed from the wall ..i see no screws but do see a plastic handle on the front left side i tried open the plastic however ice maker not moving . thank you

Hello Howard, Thank you for your inquiry. After removing the ice bin, you would need to insert a flat head screw driver into the side cover access hole and press down to release the locking lever, then pull the side cover forward to remove. Use the screw drive to depress the retaining tab to release the ice maker assembly. Pull the assembly forward and disconnect the wire harness, then remove the entire assembly. Hope this helps!

Hi Dan, Thank you for the question. The Alumilastic Cement, PartSelect Number PS11742366 goes where the thermostat is attached to the back of the assembly. It is used in between the sensor of the thermostat and the mount face itself to help transfer the temperatures to the thermostat more accurately.Hope this helps!

Thanks for your question. You will want to test a few parts with a multimeter to see if they have electrical continuity. Replace any that do not show continuity. Test the icemaker, the cycling thermostat, and the water inlet valve.

The refrigerator compartment cools via the vent from the icemaker. Lately the icemaker stops blowing cold through the vent. When this happens, the bottom of the left door fills with water (from the icemaker). We power cycled the fridge by flipping the breaker, which seemed to be a temporary fix. Tapping on the side of the icemaker seems to make it start working again. Also a temporary fix. Without replacing everything, what is the best solution?

My ice maker fill with water then freezes and drops the ice but water is also getting into the ice bin causing it to freeze into one solid mass not allowing you to dispense the ice. What parts do i need to check/replace?

Ice maker not filling. If i remove the ice maker assembly and let it set out for a few minutes and put it back in it will start and fill for two cycles then stop. I have done this several times and it dose the same thing every time. The water dispenser works fine. I replaced the dual water/ice maker valve assembly but it didn't make any difference.What could be the problem.

Thank you for your question. If your ice maker is not making ice and there is ice build up in the refrigerator, please ensure that the freezer door is closed securely after each time you use it. Even if you are just using the fresh food compartment, check the freezer door while you are there. When doors are left partially open, (even a crack), warm moisture laden air is sucked into the refrigerator and then condenses on cold surfaces, such as the evaporator, and everywhere in the freezer. This causes the internal air flow to be restricted and temperatures will rise. At the same time, the ice maker moving parts will freeze up and fail. Ice maker stopped making ice. I replace motor module.Ice maker made some ice, after 3 days only about 1/4 of bin has ice, now stopped making any ice. There is frozen ice in the mold.(not ejected into storage bin) thank you

Hi Richard, Thank you for the question. I suggest checking the shutoff arm and extension. Make sure they are not stuck or damaged. If they are not working properly the ice will not dump into the ice bucket and the ice maker can not fill with water to make more ice.Hope this helps!

Is there a cycling thermostat for my model? My icemaker continues to melt ice. The ice maker itself has been replaced. I have pulled all that made ice out and put in store but ice and that melts with the icemaker turned off. My freezer and refrigerator temperatures are all fine it is just the bed itself.

Hello Kathy, Thank you for your inquiry. This model has two defrost thermostats, one in the cooling system near the temperature sensor/thermistor and the other in the ice maker assembly near the evaporator kit and defrost heater. You can test this thermostat with a multimeter to see if it has continuity. Also check the flap that seals the chute from the ice dispenser. Sometimes a clump of ice will prevent the flap from closing securely. It’s also possible that the flap is warped, if this is the case it should be replaced. Hope this helps!

Ice maker stopped producing. I pulled icemaker out, it was full of frozen water. Let it melt, put maker back in and it made a tray of ice. Then quit again. Water fill wasn't frozen. Tray dumped when done.
