Squeak and slight burning smell during spin cycle.
I took off the lower front panel and “watched” with a flashlight during the spin cycle. I could see that the idler pulley was intermittently stopping and starting. The back of the drive belt was also worn in the center. When the idler pulley was moving, it squeaked, when it didn’t, the friction wore the belt and made the smell.

Washer broke belt & Idler pulley
First removed all screws with a nutdriver then lifted the body from the base. Removed the two hoses at the pump (be ready for excess water). Removed the 9/16 bolts (4) to drop the motor assy. I also took off the two front balance springs to have easy access. I at this point was able to remove the pulley and put new belt & pump on the motor. Remember to watch carefully to align belt. removing the idler pulley is a no brainer. Took about 45mins. to complete, a no pro job!!

Washer would not spin or aggitate
(UNPLUG APPLIANCE FIRST! )Used large flat bladed screwdriver to remove tub damper springs on front of tub. Then remomoved washer pump hoses after placing towel underneath to catch waste water.
Removed four bolts holding motor and pump assembly to tub pulled it forward slightly to remove motor electrical connector, turned assembly over to remove pump ("torx bit")
Intalled new belt being mindful of routing and idler pulley. Seems new belt is slightly longer requiring a little tension spring adjustment might have to replace it also. Washer now functions properly!

Idler pully seperated from bushing
first I unplugged the electrical plug then I removed the lower covet by taking out the 5/16 screws. I then took out the 5/16 screws that hold the top part of the front cover and removed it.
I then worked the belt off the aggitator pully and removed the hoses from the pump. I then used a 1/2 in soclet on long extension th remove the four bolts that hold the motor and pump assembly. I then worked the assembly out of the cabinate and using a long #20 torx bit I removed the pumfrom the housing. I removed the belt, then I removed the housing off the motor and replaced the Idler bracket with the idler pully. I then re-assembled it in the reverse of taking it apart. Works great with the new idler and belt.

When i click on the link for "installation instructions', it takes me to the reviews.I need installation instructions for the idler pulley for sav405daww
PartSelect logo
Hi Cheryl, Thank you for your inquiry. The customers who have commented on the idler puller have also left instructions as to how install the part. Here is one customer's comment on how he fixed the issue, "I took off the lower front panel and “watched” with a flashlight during the spin cycle. I could see that the idler pulley was intermittently stopping and starting. The back of the drive belt was also worn in the center. When the idler pulley was moving, it squeaked, when it didn’t, the friction wore the belt and made the smell. To replace the Idler Pulley Wheel: 1. Take off the lower and upper front panels to access the motor assembly. 2. Remove motor by loosening four bolts. 3. Remove spring that applies tension to the idler pulley. 4. Remove the electrical connector by squeezing the plastic tab on top. 5. Remove hoses by gripping clamps with pliers (put down rags first to catch water) 6. Unhook belt from tub pulley 7. Remove 1 cabinet spring to make it easier to remove motor 8. Remove motor. 9. Remove allen screws holding the pump to the motor 10. Remove the pump and belt (take note of the location of the belt before removing). 11. Remove retaining ring to replace Idler Pulley Wheel (this was probably the trickiest part; I used a very tiny needle nose pliers and straight screwdriver). 12. Replace the washers on either side of the Idler Pulley Wheel as well as the retaining ring. 13. Replace belt. 14. Reassemble in reverse order. 15. Be thankful for the money you saved on a service call." I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!

I found the plastic pulley had fallen off the metal sleeving. Will just putting it back on fix the pulley? Does the metal shaft need lubricating?
For model number SAV3655AWW Maytag

Hello Mark, Thank you for the question. If the Plastic Pulley fell off the Metal sleeve it will need to be replaced as they are not suppose to come part. Hope this helps!

Spin speed builds then a little snap and it slows and starts to build again. Pumps and agitates fine.
For model number SAV5910EWW

Hi Jeff, thank you for your question. I would suggest taking a look at your pulley wheel and idler arm. You may also want to take a look at the belt as well. If those parts are fine then it may be the motor that is the issue. I hope that helps. Good luck with your repair.

I replaced the belt. The washer agitates but doesn’t spin. The pulley wheel is rough on one side so I am considering replacing that. Is there anything else I should be checking. I can manually spin the agitator and the spin on the machine.
For model number DLW330RAW

Hello Andrew, Thank you for the question. We also suggest checking the Idler Pulley Spring, Idler Lever, Spin Pulley for Transmission Drive and the Brake Rotor Assembly. We hope this helps!

Agitates and pumps fine, but spins slower than normal at full speed spin setting. I replaced the belt and idler pulley but it is still slow. Clothes come out wet enough i can wring water out by hand. Any ideas?
For model number SAV4655EWW

Hello Brian, Thank you for your inquiry. We would recommend checking the following parts to fix your issue: transmission, bearings, triple lip seal and hub kit, drain pump, drain hose, and timer. You can test the parts with a multimeter. If you are unfamiliar with how a multimeter functions, there are YouTube videos available to assist you. Hope this helps!
