Agitator was not turning. Dogears were worn out
First need to remove cap on Agitator. Inside there is a washplate bolt. Remove bolt. Old Agitator will slide up. Pull washer off stem. Clean grooved stem very well. Use some sort of lubricant on stem. Slide new Agitator on to stem. Part will be very snug as metal and plastic do not mix well. (Lubricant needed) Use board to lay flat on top. Gently tap with mallet until fully seated. Install new bolt. Run test wash. (Helps clean wash tub from any foreign substances.)

Washer agitator no longer moved
After googling the issue, I found a video suggesting that if the agitator spins freely, it's because the plastic agitator dogs are worn and not engaging.

I bought the parts, and they arrived quickly. The agitator bolt in my unit was so rusted that I had to use a bit of CLR to get a look at it, and it was so worn that all my sockets spun freely. I used a bolt extractor and it came out with only a little effort.

From there, I was able to pop out the agitator and separate the two halves. The old cam kit was definitely trashed. It was easy to remove.
I mistakenly put the yellow plastic retainer on the cam kit on upside down, which meant it failed to lock into place. As a result, when I first tried to put it in, it fell apart. I realized the error and adjusted.

It was a little tricky to line up the cam kit correctly, but only took a few tries. It snapped into place pretty easily.

I replaced the large o-ring around the cap barrier, so that this new bolt will hopefully not rust so easily.

It was easy enough to get the agitator back together and in place. It works great now.

Washer not spinning properly.
Being female & never working on appliances, it was a challenge for me. I took the spinning unit apart: 1) Outer cap 2) Inner cap 3) Screw, nut & bolt popped out. Rusty & wouldn't lock into place anymore. Ordered nut & washer at about $10 + shipping. Total $17 from MayTag Rec'd right at 7 days via USPS. Used nutdriver/wrench to screw in new bolt w/washer. Wah la! That did it! Washer working great now! Now that I'm a "diy" handy person, I'm ready for my next challenge. Hopefully, none!

Removed bolt in center of agitator then slid agitator straight up and out replaced the dogs and the other parts that came with the cam kit i also replaced a few of the other parts that wear in the agitator ,you can actually re-cut the teeth on the dogs with a razor so that they will work again ,but new parts are very reasonably priced and the parts arrived very quickly the next day .

Agitator coming off when clothes are pulled out
The retainer was broken and likely because the washer was worn down and allowed the whole thing to move more and more over time. Got the exact parts I needed and the repair could not have been easier.

upper agitator not turning
Simple repair. Removed bolt holding agitator and pulled up on the upper agitator. Depending on how old the washer is, you may have to use a rubber mallet to break upper agitator free. Installed new cam kit and problem was fixed.

Will not agitate. Removed car, bolt and washer and agitator. Cannot remove spanner nut. Is nut r/h or l/h

Hi butch, Thank you for the question. Right hand threaded nut holds the tub in place in direct drive, top loading washing machines. To remove the spanner nut you will need a spanner wrench.Hope this helps!

My wash cycle will not agitate. The rinse and spin cycles still spin. What part would I need to fix this, as I see there are a few pieces that could fix it?
For model number Mvwc215ew1
PartSelect logo
Hello Amanda, Thanks for your question. The agitator bolt washer is the most common reason for your symptom. Examine the agitator itself to see if it is damaged. Next is the clutch assembly; look it over for signs of wear and tear, and also examine the drive belt. Lastly, check the drive block out for any damage as well. I hope this helps.

My direct drive Whirlpool washer started making loud noise during agitation...sounded like grinding/slipping gears. i have inspected for wear and broken parts...replaced the agitator ands drive mount. now there is no agitation but the spin cycle seems fine. i don't see wear on the clutch. transmission seems to function properly. what am i failing to notice?
PartSelect logo
Hi Norman, Thank you for your question. If your washer was making a grinding noise when it was agitating, then the issue is likely either the tub seal or bearing or the drive pulley is worn out or damaged. If it is the tub seal and bearing, this may be sold separately or sold with the outer tub. For more information, we will need the model number from your appliance. I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!

Washer was making loud noise not agitating or spinning replaced clutch assembly. Now washer lid locks fills did partial agitate and stops and lid unlocks. Then no spin.
For model number WTW5500XW3

Hi Terry, thank you for your question. There are a few parts that could cause this issue. You may want to check your lid latch, your drive belt, your shift actuator, and your drive pulley and hub. I hope that helps. Good luck with your repair.

Removing bolt is almost impossible. After wd40 was albe to loosen a few turns but not remove. After several times was able to retighten but was not able to remove bolt. What would be holding the bolt in place?
For model number RTW4640YQ1
PartSelect logo
Hello Gary, thank you for writing. It is possible that it is rusted in place. Does there appear to be any rust? If so, you could try using some penetrating oil to dissolve some of it. The penetrating oil also acts as a lubricant, so using a lubricant of sorts may also assist you. We hope this helps.
