This dryer door switch is a simple on/off switch mechanism that prohibits the dryer from operating when the door is open, and operates the drum light. White in color and 6.5 inches long, this OEM switch is comprised of plastic and metal, and features the switch and three wires that comprise the part. Sold individually, this part attaches to the inside of the top end of the front panel. One end attaches to the wiring harness, the other goes through the panel to make contact with the door when the door is closed. Over time, this part can be subject to material fatigue or breakage due to frequent use or rough handling. If it breaks or is defective, you won't be able to start or stop your drying cycle, depending on the position your switch broke in. The easiest way to test this part for functionality is to test it by hand. Push on the black tab that sticks out of the front panel to make contact with your dryer door; if there is no resistance in the tab and it doesn't make a click sound, you may need to replace it.

Im replacing the door switch assembly for my dryer and I know I have the right part for my model bc I confirmed it with you first. However when I removed my old switch assembly it has two wires, but this replacement part has three. Whats going on and will this change anything?
Hi Lindsay, the third wire will not make a difference. It is for the drum light and will not be in the harness. This part has been redesigned by the manufacturer to work with several different types of dryers, which is why they now include the third wire. I hope this helps!

When dryer door is opened, the dryer continues to run and light does not come on. Is it the door switch?
For model number lgr8648lw1
Hi Neal,
Thank you for your inquiry. It definitely sounds like it would be your door switch that is the problem. You can test it with a multi-meter to see if it is malfunctioning. Good luck with your repair!

While checking the door switch i have a open reading is that right? If so what do i check next? I have replaced the fuse.
For model number RED4440VQ1
Hi Karen,
Thank you for your question. If your door switch is reading as open, then that would mean that you have an open circuit and that the part does not have continuity. You may have to replace that part as it seems like it is malfunctioning. I would not be able to say what else it could be because I am not sure what your issue is. Good luck with your repair.

The heating element for the dry stays on when the door is open, but the dryer does not tumble when the door is closed. Could this possibly fix the problem?
For model number WED4800XQ1
Hi Bert,
Thank you for your inquiry. If they dryer is not shutting off when the door is open then the door switch should fix the issue. Some other parts you will need to check as well are the internal bias thermostat, the thermal fuse, the heating element, the motor and the timer. I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!

I have a Whirlpool dryer, i think it's the door switch that needs to be replaced but when my husband and i test cycle and stop, we open door and smelt like a burning smell.. what could cause that?
Hello Julia, thank you for contacting us. If it is a rubber burning smell it could be the belt slipping, and may need to be replaced. If it is a burnt electrical smell it could be coming from the motor. You can do a visual inspection of the belt to determine if it is bad and needs replaced. Hope this helps!

Dryer Would Not Turn Off With Door Open
Pryed dryer top open and opened front door. . Unscrewed the 2 retaining screws. Pulled old switch from the wiring harness. Put new switch in place and replaced the retaining screws. Put new switch wire plug into the wiring harness. Before closing top, checked door switch function with dryer on. Dryer cut off when door open and when closed dryer started normally. . . Maint. Note instruction book should warn that letting door slam, which I did on occaision, broke the switch arm. Might save future problems.

Dryer wouldn't turn on b/c door switch broken
It was simple once I figured out what to do:). I removed the 2 screws on the top of the dryer... they were a bit hard to find. Even with the other descriptions on this site. I was removing things I didn't need to. The 2 screws you need to remove are under the LINT COLLECTOR LID. Remove those 2 screws & lift the lid... it will be tight at first. the front of the lid has 2 "catches" in the corners.
The hardest part was getting the door switch assembly to "unplug". We pried it off -- eventually -- & then simply plugged in the new one.
Saved me LOTS of money & was worth the 30 minutes - 1 hour of work.
As I said previously, once you realize how to get the lid up & manage to pry off the plug, that's all there is to it -- easy!
Save yourself time & money & do it yourself!

When I opened my dryer door while it was running, the drum continued to turn and the light would not come on.
First unplug your dryer. Then, I removed the two screws on the lint trap leaving the lint trap in place--do not pull out the lint trap--only remove the two screws. Next, slide the top of the dryer slightly forward in order to release the top of the dryer. I did this with my hands. Once the top of the dryer is released, raise the top of the dryer and unplug the door switch assembly. Then, remove the two screws that hold the switch. These two screws were located on the front panel of my dryer and are visible when you open the dryer door. Remove the old switch and install the new switch by putting the two screws you previously took out from the old switch back in place and plug in the new switch. Lower the dryer top. Push the top back to lock in place. Line up the lint trap holes for the two screws that hold it in place and replace those screws. Plug your dryer back in and it should work properly. Very easy repair. We ordered our part one morning before noon, and it was here the next afternoon with regular shipping. GREAT SERVICE.

Door switch did absolutely nothing....dryer kept running
I read a fix-it article from another contributor and followed those instructions to the T. Pull out lint trap, remove the two screws. Slide the top cover towards the front and prop it up with a mop handle. Unscrew two screws in the door switch (with the door open) - Oh, to keep from killing yourself unplug the dryer just in case. Take pliers and pull the plug apart. It will be right in front of you in the right corner at the top. Plug new switch into that plug, reinstall the switch by reinstalling the two screws you removed. Snap top back into place and reinstall the two screws at the lint trap. Oh, don't forget to clean the trap and slide it back into the unit. Now you have earned that beer. Put tools away and proudly show your job off to the wife telling her how difficult it was.

No Agitation on the washer, light on dryer on, would not shut off
It was so simple, I recived the parts in two days, watched the video and did exactly as the video instructed. Parts are better quality than original in my oppinion. Wow I was amazed that the parts got here so fast... Thanks to your company I will be doing many repairs on my equipment ouround the home and saving the service call and charge...
This was my first dryer repair, and it was so easy. Simply pull out the lint trap and unscrew the two screws that are exposed. They attach the top deck of the dryer to the drum.
Once it's unscrewed, pull forward while lifting the top of the dryer. The top is attached to the control assembly. They should both lift up, but you'll need something to prop it up like you would the hood of your car.
Next, use the pliers to pinch the connector so that you can separate the two parts of the connector.
Open the dryer door to gain access to the screws that hold the switch in place. Use your screwdriver to unscrew the switch.
Plug the new switch connector in, and close up the dryer.
Word of caution; there are sharp edges inside the dryer so be careful.

Broken door switch
Followed your online video for disassembly and it was not only educational but actually quite simple. I would recommend that you start the video with," make sure the power cord is disconnected from the power source". I have worked on numerous pieces of large electrical equipment and would strongly suggest this be added. Some people think if it's, "off", it's safe. Your phone staff when ordering was great. We will do business again.

Dryer working but drum light not working, bulb ok.
Problem: Drum light not working, bulb ok. Removed 6 screws on panel behind timer, light, buzzer, switches. Lifted back of dryer top then moved dryer top forward and off of dryer. The switch was located above the door. Unhooked wiring plug and took out 2 screws holding in the switch. Installed new switch and repaced bulb. Reassembled as needed and tested light by opening door. Works great.
checked to see what the problem might be according to your website, ordered the recommended parts, received parts within 3 business days, watched video on website with instructions, replaced parts and surprise, dryer works as if nothing ever happened. thank you for the straightforward, no nonsense information and video provided in your website and the promt efficient service

My sister wanted to get a new dryer
I checked it out and saw this switch was bad. Piece of cake to swap... but finding the part!
Then I remember this place and surfed to it and as usual found what was needed and a lot less expensive than a newfangled dryer that connects to your phone and charges it as well.
All I want to do is push a button and dry the clothes. Part arrived quickly and it was an easy swap out. Thanks parts select for coming through again for the same old dryer!
