I have a Whirlpool washing machine. I can push in and pull out the timer knob but the knob spins freely both clock wise and counter clock wise. It does not set the timer dial like it's suppose to. Does this have anything to do with either the timer, timer knob or timer dial being messed up?
For model number LSQ9549LW3
Hi Mildred,
Thank you for your inquiry. Actually all three of those parts would be something that you would have to look into. I would say check the knob first. If the knob is the problem then you will be able to see physical damage on it. If your knob is fine, it may be your timer that is the issue. Good luck with your repair!

If my timer knob does advance but gets stuck at certain spots on certain settings but not other spots on different settings is the problem my knob or not. Example: the knob stops at spin on heavy load setting but not on the permanent press setting?

My whirlpool washer stops at different points in different cycles. Although the cycle setting knob indicates the cycle has been completed, when I open the washer it is still full of water. I also need to manually hold the knob to get the cycle to begin again. Any suggestions on parts that need replacing? Thank you so much!

Washer would not wash on "normal" cycle. Had to play with the knob to get it to run at all. Washer would not drain properly either.
I unplugged the washer from the electrical outlet.
I then removed the drain hose from the wall drain to allow me to turn the washer to gain access to the the back panel.
From the front, I then removed the plastic timer knob from the timer by unscrewing it. Then I pulled the plastic plate with the arrow on it to remove it. This exposed the screws that attached the timer to the control panel. I left them attached.
I then removed the two screws on the bottom of the front of the control panel (on each end) that attach the control panel to the washer.
I then went to the rear of the washer and removed the two screws on the top of the rear of the control panel.
I went back to the front and pulled the control panel forward and up to release it from the washer.
I then removed the two screws (that were under the plastic plate) that attached the timer to the panel and removed the timer from the panel.
Then I unplugged the wiring harness from the timer and removed the timer completely.
From there I reversed the procedure to install the new timer and knob.
Original timer knob was plastic construction , twisted apart
The repair was very easy. The original dial was a poor design and did not hold up to the twisting and finally let loose. The threaded bottom of the dial stayed on the threaded shaft, so it was a simple matter of grabbing it with nose pliers and spinning off. Glue does not work with this type of plastic, I tried instant glue and hot glue. The replacement part was re-designed with a metal threaded center, so when it arrived in the mail, 3 days after online ordering, I spun it onto the shaft and job was complete. While I waited for the new part to arrive, I threaded 2 nuts onto the shaft and tightened them to each other to give me a temporary 'knob' that I could grab with my nose pliers.

Broken Timer Knob
Removed remaining plastic piece of old broken knob by turning counter clockwise. Screwed on replacement knob by turning clockwise. Replacement knob is made of metal and I do not expect it to ever break. Soooo easy! Fast service and shipping!

Knob broke off
Used pliers to take remaining broken plastic from post then screwed on new knob in 10 seconds. Easy as can be! I also loved the fact the new knob was made from metal where it threaded on instead of plastic like the original knob.

My 6-year old grandson knew how to fix fixed the washer...
This knob is much better then original one. Part has come few days later then was promised.
However it's very expensive, it cost me $41 - for part which in production cost probably is less then a 10% of what I paid...
