baffle fell off
I followed the Part Select tutorial on Instant Repairman and retrieved the missing screws at the base of the dryer as described in the tutorial and after trying to reassemble the original baffle notice the baffle screw holes were stripped. I decided to fill the holes with a strong glue before reinserting the screw to temporarily keep the machine running until the new baffle arrived as it was just ordered the night before. When the new baffle arrived I decided to hold onto it as a spare if or when the original baffle broke off again.

Broken short baffle
Removed door, then brackets holding top panel to side exposed after removing door. Lifted top panel to expose dryer chamber. Rotated chamber to access outside screws holding broken baffle. Removed and replaced baffle. Closed top lid, reattached to side. Replaced door. When reattaching top lid, do not tighten H/W just yet. You'll have to maneuver the hooks into place for the door to reattach. Then tighten when in place.

The Short and Tall Baffles needed to be replaced after falling off
Go to Youtube and type in the repair (baffle repair). Carefully took apart the dryer as video instructed by unscrewing all necessary parts and took pics of the screws and parts as I went along, so that I could put back together without any problem. I did the repair myself not my husband. I will say, that it helps if you have an extra pair of hands when drilling the nut into the baffle to hold in place. In addition, I used washers to keep nut from falling through since the hole on the drum on one side was big and not holding the nut in place.

Loss of two baffles
Others have described how to remove 4 screws and remove the front panel of the dryer. The problem I saw is that some screws broke off and fell inside while others remained on the separated baffle. The old screws that I found were 1 1/4 inch. The parts manual indicates a replacement screw that is 1 inch long and a number 10 width. One set of holes for the baffles has slotted holes. It appears that wear in the paint indicates movement before breaking off. My solution to the slotted holes was to use washers on the screws and to tighten the screws in the position where any force was not going to move the screws to the center position of the slots. The force of the separation caused the slotted holes to expand.

Baffel broke and came off
Really easy to replace. All I had to do was remove the screws on the hinges and two on the other side. Used a nut driver to remove the brackets that hold the lid down. Secured the lid open and used the nut driver to remove the screws that hold the baffel son (two on each) and replace the baffel and secure with the screws. Reversed the the process and was drying clothes my first load of clothes in around 30 to 40 minutes. Process is really easy and I was able to do it by myself

One of the Baffles came loose.
I took out screws holding top to dryer & raised the top & proped it up to gain access to inside of the dryeeer drum. I then inatalled the new baffle & secured it with 2 screws. It would have been better if the part came with new screws. It was hard to determine which was the right screws for this application.

Baffle broke off inside tumbler
removed the front panel and lifted the top up. turned the tumbler and screwed down the new baffles from the outside. Used washers because the screw holes were bent from the old baffles.

Baffle partially flopping around
Save the money and buy the part with partselect. My dryer problem was obvious. Before I purchased the part I jumped on YOUtube to see if there was a repair video that matched my problem. FRIELINK5 had a very thorough video. This guy did it with one hand and overall it looked easy. Then I ordered the part. When it arrived I gathered all of the tools first. Rewatched the youtube video, then installed the part. I recommend going through parts select problem determination if you do not know what is wrong. Follow the instructions and purchase the part. I saved probably over $125. House call 50$ + Labor and part $100 from a service call. TRY IT save money.

baffles broke off
Unplugged dryer. Removed dryer door with philips screwdriver. Removed front dryer panel aftr loosening philips screws on each side of door. Then at top right corners I used a nutdriver to remove clips/hooks that hold down top of dryer. I then lifted top of dryer up- it is hinged at back. I could then manually turn drum to access screws that hold baffles. I held each baffle in place with left hand and turned in screws with right hand until tight, using nut driver. I vacuumed out inside of dryer. Reassembled top, front panels and door. plugged in and tested. All good.

Hi, d you know if this model has a short baffle or a tall baffle? I do not want to order the wrong one. Thank you.
For model number MDE5500AYW

Hi Tanisha, Thank you for your question. Your dryer has both a short and a tall baffle. The tall baffle is approximately 4 1/4 inches high and the short baffle is approximately 3 1/4 inches high. You will need to measure the baffles in your dryer drum to see which one you need. I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!

Hi Karen, Thank you for the question. The screws are not visible from inside the tub, you will need to remove the outer cabinet to expose the outside of the tub to see where the screws hold the baffle in place(see video listed under baffle part information) . Hope this helps!

I need the long baffle for my dryer. What screws will it take ? Can a person do it themselves? Do you have to take the drum out to do it?
For model number MDE9390AYW
PartSelect logo
Hi Kandie, Thank you for your question. The short baffle would be the longer of the 2 different types of baffles in your dryer. It measures approximately 17-1/2 inches long. If you would like to place an order for it, you may order it either online or by calling our customer service line and anyone will be happy to assist you. The baffle is not hard to install and there is a video listed with the part on our website that you may reference on how to install it. We hope this helps! If you have any questions, please let us know.
