My Maytag dryer, model pyg2300aww has a motor in it with # 53 3687 on it. I cannot locate a motor with this part number anywhere. I have found replacement recommendations for this model but am just not sure whythere are so many different part numbers for what appears to be the same motor.. i ordered part # w10410999, which is supposed to fit. what i received was actually w10410892 & the pulley side mount on the motor does not fit the motor mount. it also looks like the pulley will not fit the shaft. what is a 53 3687? thank you.
Hello Gary, thank you for your question. For this unit the part number is PartSelect Number: PS3497647 manufacturer part number W10410996. This is the compatible replacement part for your specific unit. The manufacturer, over time, changes or updates the motors and that is why the part numbers changes. This part will work with your unit. I hope this helps!

No Heat
Lift the top. Remove (2) screws holding the front of the dryer in place. Lift the front off the 2 retaining clips on the bottom of the dryer. The hardest part of the install was removing and replacing the igniter. A couple of helping hands from the girlfriend to hold the parts in place while I replaced the two screws was very helpfull. Installing the multi rib belt was also very easy with the help of a second pair of arms to reach under the drum to thread the belt onto the tensioner. The lint filter, of coarse was just a matter of throwing the old cracked one away and replacing w/ the new.
I removed the 2 screws that hold the ignighter & cover in place...unpluged the wire...replaced it with the new ignighter...thats when I found out that it was easier to take off than to put on...but I got it back into place...replaced the 2 screws...put the new belt on the drum...fitted it around the moter...pulled the wheel spring back to get it on tight...made sure the drum was fitted around the wheels...checked the tension...plugged in the wire for the ignighter...tested to see if the ignighter glowed...it did...I but the door back on the dryer...and it works...i thank my father for showing me how to work on machines...instead of letting me play with my dolls...thank you Parts select for getting my order to me in great condition & record time...
Easy Job. First take a flat head screw driver and pop the top placing the screwdriver in between the front panel. The top of the dryer should pop up. Then just pull it up and over towards the back.
Then unscrew the front panel and move it out of the way leaveing the front door atached to the panel. Once you open the front panel' You can pull the dryer tub out by sliding it out and at the same time you need to push the belt towards the back of the tub until it comes off. Now you can get to the ingiter by first disamablethe gas housing first. Simply by taking one screw off and disconnecting the gas line fitting in front of the dryer. Also disconnect the 3 sets of wires that are connected to that piece and the igniter. The hole piece will then come out with the igniter attached to it. Next disconnect the igniter from the piece and replace it with new one. Then put back togather the same way you took it apart. Reinstalling the tub. When it's time to put the tub back in; there's a trick to that. Put tub in about 3/4 of the way in, put the belt around the tub and let the rest hang to the floor inside dryer.then crawl into the tub and stetch your head and arm through the tub on the back side. Then you can get to the belt and route it into the motor and the pully that is spring loaded it makes it so much easer that way then trying to run the belt and route it in place from the top. Once that is done now you can adjust belt back to its orignal position then push the tub back in place. Reinstall fron panel and your their. Total cost 36.00 plus shipping. Thats a lot cheaper then a sevice call and labor

sometimes it would heat, and other times it did not.
unplug dryer, lift top, remove 2 screws holding front, lift & swing front to right, use nutdriver to remove two screws holding igniter and other piece attached with same screws, a couple wiggles and out, unplugged igniter, plug in new, reposition new igniter and other piece, replace screws, repositioned front panel, replaced front panel screws, dropped top back in place, plugged in and wha-la. Heat. Original Igniter had a hairline crack in it causing it to intermittantly fire. Thanks PartSelect, right part and speedy delivery.

Gas Dryer runs but never heats up
Went to your website for information on how to open the cabinet and clues of what could be wrong. I used a putty knife to open top. i removed two screws holding the front panel then lifted the panel up off of two clips holding it in place. Removed door switch from panel and set panel aside. I turned the dryer on and noticed that the igniter never turned on but the drum turned CCW. I then unplugged the electric cord from the wall and turned off the gas at the supply valve behind dryer. I removed 3 connectors (1 from igniter, 2 from gas valve coils). Mark the gas valve flare nut and tube with a marker so you know how much to tighten it on reassembly. I used two adjustable wrenches to remove gas line from gas valve. Then removed one screw holding gas valve assembly in place. Removed gas valve assembly from dryer. I took a nut driver to remove screw holding the igniter to the assembly. I used a meter to check bad igniter and it was open. I checked new igniter and it read 88 ohms. Caution: never touch the igniter heating surface with your bear hands because you will shorten its life. Clean dryer lint from front panel and cabinet. Now reverse these steps for reassembly. Thank you for the video on how to open the cabinet and the ideas for what could be the problem. The dryer was 2004/2005 model so about 14 years old.

Igniter with Wire Harness
The part arrived fast. I am by no means an expert repair person. I just Youtubed how to change this part and the coils on my gas dryer. Took me about 30 minutes and I had the dryer back up and heating again.
