The defrosting took the majority of the repair time - the actual Defrost Thermostat replacement only took about 20 minutes once I could get to it. I spliced the wire with a crimping tool as discussed in the video. Once all was defrosted I reversed the operation.Overall, a very simple part change out. The video was extremely helpful - if nothing else to mentally prepare me for the task.

Replacement thermostat to resolve auto-defrost issue / Hot connector did not match.
I used the original connector from the spent thermostat and waterproofed the connection with a 16g wire nut and electric tape. Works great! In hindsight I would have ordered the part earlier as this is a typical solution to a freezer frosting over. Manual defrost is a pain!

Freezer coils icing; High temp in frig section
Noticed that defrost sensor on freezer evaporator coils ruptured and defrost timer not working -- refrig running constantly. Replaced both sensor and timer. Refrigator working properly now.

Does bimetal defrost thermostat control anything other than defrost heater? When I defrost it the fan starts

Hello Alex, Thank you for the question. This bimetal thermostat senses the temperature from the evaporator. When the temperature reaches 50-70 degrees (F) the defrost bi metal turns the defrost heater off. Hope this helps, good luck with this repair!

My problem is the freezer is not keeping things frozen but the fridge keeps things at a good temp. Thank you for the quick response to my earlier question.Now i have located the defrost thermostat and it was completely incased in frost/ice. The rest of the coils were clear of any frost. I checked the operation with an ohm meter and the thermostat seems to be working properly. So i defrosted it and put it back in place and will see if that was the problem. Do you have any other suggestions to try? All fans work, the compressor cycles and i have checked the defrost timer and the start capacitor and they all seem to be working too. Thanks for the great help so far.

Refrigerator does not keep items cold and the freezer does not freeze things. Is there an overall thermostat that controls both? If so, what is the part name and what is the cost? (bottom freezer refrigerator).

To replace the bi-metal thermostat in this refrigerator, it appears i need to have full access to the back panel in the freezer area. Doing this would be made simpler if i can remove not just the trays that hold the food and ice but the freezer drawer itself. I don't see how to do that. How does one release the drawer slide rollers to enable removing the whole drawer?

I have ice build up in the freezer. Almost an inch of ice per month. Will the bimetal defrost thermostat will fix my problem ? Or is it a leak somewhere that cause ice build up in the freezer ?... i have no ice maker on the refrigirator.
