This replacement part is a door latch assembly for a dishwasher. The latch keeps the appliance door closed while it is running, and prohibits the dishwasher from starting when the door is open. Door handle broke......could not unlatch and open door, had to forcefully pull it open
Took out 11 stainless screws that hold in inside door panel, pulled out latch assembly. ... Read moreh age. The left side came out a little easier than the right one. When I got brave and tugged harder I managed to break the offset contact inside of the plug. Just gave it one desperate powerful tug wit my pliers and out it came, thank goodness the plug itself wasn't damaged. Put assembly in place, ligned up the screw holes in the door panel, put screws back. Works like a charm. The black color of the handle does not perturb me, It is recessed and only shows when dishwasher is running. By the way I'm a 75 year old female and am rather proud of myself. Lol

Door Latch Broken - hard to open the door

A little tough to get the wire off the switch on the old part, had to break them off and then prior the contacts out the the switch with some pliers. The new switch went in without a hitch, the existing outer door screws also are used to hold the latch in place. Overall, took about 15 minutes, and i probably did not to take off half of the screws on the inner door to get to the latch assembly. Removing and replacing all those screws took the longest amount of time.

The handle broke
I followed the UTube video. I used a cordless drill to unscrew the Torx 21 screws, used a flat head screwdriver to pop the electrical connectors off, unscrewed the latch. The in install the new latch in reverse order.

Door handle broke while opening dishwasher
Remove the screws around the inside perimeter of the door removed the switch and latch assembly. Disconnected the switches and reconnected the new assembly. Installed all of the Torx screws back in and did my three days worth of dirty dishes. Parts delivery was as promised dishwasher is working fine

So i already bought the part without the handle, do i need this part also, or should i return that and get this instead? Really and truly, it's the handle that broke, not the whole assembly.

Hi Nita, Thank you for the question, You can use the old handle on the Latch, PartSelect Number PS11751688 or replace the full Door Handle and Latch Assembly - Black, PartSelect Number PS11731673. You will need to use the black handle but this assembly is a upgraded version from the old one that was easy to break. In most cases the handle is not that noticeable.Hope this helps!
