I dropped something on the glass top stove, cracked the glass.
My husband and I watched a couple of videos we googled. Once we had a clue we took the top of the stove off. The glass is the whole top, not just glass, and doesn't come with the elements. We marked where each clip was and drew numbers on the elements in order to put them back exactly as they came out. Putting it back together, there are

Replace cracked cooktop
Replacement was not very difficult but did require some time. I unscrewed the two areas holding the cooktop in place, slightly lifted the unit up then slid it over a bit to remove from the back area. This unit has the burners affixed to the underside of the cooktop using brackets. Instead of working underneath the raised unit I decided
... Read moreto unhook the cabling in the back and fully removed the cooktop. I moved the cooktop to a flat surface and then I was able to easily remove all of the screws holding the brackets to the burners. I moved all the hardware to the new unit and replaced the cooktop. I was able to dissemble the unit myself but it was helpful having an extra set of hands when it was time to put the new unit in place. Tools used were a socket wrench and a screwdriver.

More info about glass top replacement. Do the burners sit under the glass or are they integrated into the glass? The top was broken over the front edge of the largest burner. The break is complete with one piece of glass clear through. Is there a fire risk until replacement? Should the breaker be turned off? Is it safe to use the oven?
For model number JB650sf4ss
Hi Altha, Thank you for the question. The elements are not part of the glass, They just sit under the glass top. I would not suggest using the cook top until it has been replaced. If there was food or a spill on the top and it leaked through onto the element when the element is on, it can cause a fire. The oven will be ok to use. Hope this helps!

How to replace the glass top part wb62x25972 how to remove the heat elements
For model number JB860SJ1SS
Hi Alex,
Thank you for your question. Before you begin any repair please unplug the appliance from the electrical outlet or turn the circuit breaker off. First open the oven door and then remove the 2 screws that hold the cooktop. Lift the cooktop up and slide it to one side in order to release it's rear hinges from the mounting brackets. Be careful as the part is heavy. Remove the hinges from the old cooktop. Secure the hinges on the new cooktop with the screws. Place the new cooktop assembly hinge into the opening on the side mounting bracket. Slide it into the opposite mounting bracket, check if it is properly installed and lower the cooktop. Secure it place with the 2 screws at the front. Close the door and restore power to the oven. restore power to the cooktop and everything should now work for you. I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!

There was a small crock, bowl dropped accidentally on to the top and cracked the front right area at the edge of the large right front burner. Is this a replacement repair that can be done by owner or does this require a repairman and service call? What tools would be needed? This range was purchased new 3 years ago. Serial # 2f225024 q
