Question:

My icemaker just stopped making ice and I know I need to replace the water filter ive just been dragging my feet about it. Is the icemaker cut off now because I need to replace my filter or is there another reason for it stopping now?

Jones
Answer:

Hello Jones, we recommend replacing the water filter every 6 months, depending on how often you use it. Replacing or not replacing the filter would only affect the water dispenser, not the icemaker. The most common reason an icemaker does not get water would be a defective water valve WPW10270395. I hope this helps.

Question:

Replaced the water filter with the updated model as directed. Every since it makes this awful loud humming noise and the dispense rate is so slow. Suggestions? Yes we have pulled it out and put it back in numerous times to see if it would quit. Still crazy loud noises coming from the filter. Followed all of the directions.

Lauren for model number MFI2569VEQ1
Answer:

Hi Lauren, Thank you for your question. There are really only two parts that may cause this noise. I would suggest checking to see if there is any debris at all in the filter head (the part that your filter plugs into). If you see anything there then that would have been your issue. If you do not see anything it could either be your filter housing or your filter head itself. If you have the bypass plug that came with your appliance, I could suggest putting that into place instead of the filter. If the noise still occurs then it is more than likely your filter head that has the issue. I hope that helps. Good luck with your repair.

Which is it for this model because i have replaced the whole ice maker and still no ice! Thanks don

Don for model number KFXS25RYMS4

Hi Don, Thank you for your inquiry. There are some parts you will have to check to see which ones are causing the issue. The water filter is one of the parts you will have to check. The ice maker is making ice very very slowly a few cubes in 12 hours the filter has been replaced, i removed the ice maker ad nothing is frozen. I reinstalled it with the same symptom. I checked the supply lines for any kinks and everything was fine. The water dispenser is working fine so the inlet valve is fine for the water dispenser. My question:: is there a separate valve for the ice maker that might not be operating correctly and where is it located? thank you

We have had this great refrigerator for approximately 3 months. In the last few days, the water from the dispenser tastes really different and is not so good. Would we need a new filter so soon, or are there other causes to explore? Thanks so much.

Lisa for model number KRFC300ESS01
Answer:

Hello Lisa, Thanks for your question. The water filter, part number PS11722130, is a potential cause for concern, though normally they only need to be replaced once every 6 months. You may also wish to check part number PS11754529, the water inlet valve. The valve may have impurities or be damaged, and if so it is worth replacing. I hope this helps.

Question:

I asked a question yesterday about my ice maker producing ice very slowly. I know the ice maker is cycling because I get few cubes in 12 hours. I have replaced the water filter and checked to make sure the filter is installed properly. I have found that there is a dual valve at the inside back of the refrigerator. Can this be the problem? The water dispenser works and Whirlpool told me that half the valve cannot fail.

Thomas for model number WRX735SDBM00
Answer:

Hello Thomas, Thanks for your question. The part number PS11755669 is the water valve for your icemaker, and it is worth examining for any cracks and testing with a multi-meter to ensure continuity. If it is flawed, replace it. The water filter (part number PS11722130) is also worth examining to see if it is clogged, and normally it is replaced every 6 months. I hope this helps.

Steve for model number GZ25FSRXYY0
Answer:

Hi Steve, Thank you for the question, The suggestions are based on previous customers and what reason they gave for replacing a part. A customer replacing the filter may have clicked the wrong option in error. I suggest checking to make sure the Damper Control Assembly is not stuck open and allowing too much cold air through from the freezer. You can check to see if the flapper has froze open or if there is something blocking the flapper not allowing it to close.Hope this helps!

The crisper drawer was broken on the slides and kept falling out. Also the filter needed changing as the red light was on.

By sliding the drawer out and lifting it up at the end, the drawer will come right out. By installing the new drawer in the same sequence, the job is completed. As for the filter, it is located inside the refrigerator compartment on the upper right side.Simply remove any items from the top shelf that may be in the way, and then push in on the tab that extends out from the filter housing. The filter and connector will swivel down at that point, simply hold the connector in one hand to stablize and with the other hand, twist the filter counter-clockwise to remove the filter. To reinstall the new filter, remove all protective covering from filter. Plase filter against filter connector and turn until tight (1/4-1/2 turn).Raise complete assemble upwads until tab snaps back into place. Installation is now complete, next purge the air out from water supply by placing a pitcher or other large container under the dispenser and activate.Run water for a minute or so until all air is removed.

Removing the existing filter by rotating as directed and then dislodging from 'docking' station proved difficult. Turns out, the old filter is under a bit of vacuum pressure and getting the unit to separate or release was a challenge.

I removed the drop-down outer housing by gently prying the sides of the two pivot pins at the rear. This gave me move 'room' to grip and slightly rotate then pull the old filter forward and away from the tight suction connection. I was concerned that I would be too forceful for the plastic assemblies and would break something; deliberate motions and a steady thought process on the problem helped disengage the darned old filter!
