Product Description

Door Hinge with Bushings Specifications

This is a door hinge with bushings and works in conjunction with your washer. The purpose of this part is to attach to the outside of the front door panel to help with the lid opening and closing properly. The hinge will fasten the front panel of the washing cabinet to the lid of the washer. This piece is roughly 9 inches long, almost 3 inches high, and roughly 2.5 inches wide. The reason for needing to replace this part is if your lid/door will not open or close properly, which may lead to leaking.

How do you remove the existing hinge. Does the part come with both bolts and how do you replace?
For model number FAFW3801LW2
PartSelect logo
Hello Hal, Thank you for the question. The screws for the hinge are sold sepratly, You will need to order PartSelect Number PS3495292. To remove and install the new hinge you first need to remove the door from the cabinet by removing the three screws holding the hinge to the cabinet of the appliance. Once the screws are removed the hinge and the door will come right off. Lay the door on a flat surface, next remove all the screws from the inner door panel and the door strike and lift the panel off. Once the panel is off you can lift the hinge out of its place and set the new one in. Replace the inner door panel and strike by reattaching the screws and then reattach the hinge and door to the cabinet of the appliance. Good luck with the repair!

The hinge on the door of the washer squeaks really loud when opening and closing it. I have used silicone spray numerous times. What is my alternative?
PartSelect logo
Hi Kenneth, Thank you for your question. I would imagine then that you may have to replace your hinge. It sounds like it has worn down and that is the reason for the squeaking sound. I hope that helps. Good luck with your repair.

The hinge to the door is fine, on the door itself where it is screwed to the hinge is loose. I think the screw is stripped or something, cause when i tried tightening is it just spins (screw), there are no broken parts but the door is jus hanging there. It wont latch shut so the washer is not able to function. Do i need a new hinge or that small area in the door itself that the screw are loose?
For model number FFW5100PWO

Hello Joyce, thank you for inquiring. The part on the door that the Hinge screws into is a part of the Interior Door Frame part PS3418916. The Screw is part PS417147. It sounds as though you need the Interior Door Frame. We hope this helps.

My door (outside) got a crack in probably from a move. Used it this way for quite a while then the crack went totally through the hinge area and the door fell off. Put it back on for a while but then that silver (plastic) piece inside and out of the door cracked and broke. The hinge on the washer is fine except for the bottom white piece that slipped off and ended up inside the door frame. Can this inside and outside ring be replaced and how?
For model number FAFS4174NW0

Door Striker broke which was a result of the hinge problem.
Removed the screws holding the door. (One was stuck a little so used an air drill with Phillips head to get the torque needed but someone with a strong grip could have done it as it came out very easily). I removed most of the screws holding the front to back of door to exchange the hinge. There was a problem with the old hinge slopping around and not allowing the door to align properly when shutting it. The new hinge works better. See note*** below on doorframe. I pretty much was able to get the door back together and make it work. I then exchanged the door striker with no problem. It has a built in key so you cannot attach it incorrectly. The next thing was to just reattach the door to the machine and it worked right off the bat. ------------- *** Unfortunately, there were two screw mounts in the Outer Door Frame - Chrome Part Number: PS3495258 that were broken. This doorframe is listed as a $200+ chrome part whereas it is actually a plastic material that is extremely over priced for what it is. Like I mentioned two of the screw mounts had broken off so those screws are just "decoration" now. (These are screws that basically hold the back cover to the front cover). If this becomes a problem, I will simply modify what I have and make the screws fit before I spend $200+ on that part. (It looks like this could be drilled out and a long screw and nut run through to make it work. TELL THE WASHER OPERATOR… just be careful opening and closing the unit (don't slam the door but carefully close it) and it should work a lot longer. I might investigate the make up of a washer the next time I buy one … but the chrome vs. plastic is a hard one to spot. I hope this helps.

Hinge on door cracked
Replaced the hinge. Took old one off, put new one on.
I did not need to use new screws so I have returned them for a refund. Old ones were just fine.
Customer service was excellent, providing a return label, letter and simple instructions for the refund. Waiting for it to credit on my account.

Door hinge bottom bushing broke - Door latch no longer lined up with catch
First, I recommend you have a second pair of hands. The chrome door is quite heavy. Using Phillips screwdriver I removed the screws that attached the door to the frame. I had a helper hold the door while I removed the screws.
Once hinge screws were removed I put a towel down on a counter to keep the front of the door from getting marked up and proceeded to remove all of the screws around the back of the door so that I could lift the frame up enough to remove the broken hinge and insert the new hinge. It was a bit tricky to get the new hinge with bushings in place. I gently lifted the frame up with a flat head screw driver to widen the opening so I could get the bushings on the new hinge into position on the frame. Make sure they are properly inserted before you start tightening up screws.
Next, replaced all the screws on the frame, returned to the washing machine with helper who held the door up while I aligned the holes in the new hinge to the holes in the frame around the opening to the washer.
After everything was secured and tightened, to my surprise, the door latch did NOT line up with catch without lifting up about a 1/4" or a little more, on the bottom of the door. If someone slams the door without doing that you could break off part of the plastic latch or damage the catch inside the door frame.
I believe the original holes on the door frame were not drilled precisely during the manufacturing process and that is why the bottom bushing broke. We have always had to lift up a bit on the door to line up the latch with the catch. Eventually the strain on the bottom bushing caused it to break and then the door tilted down so you had to lift it up about 3/4 inch to latch it. I bought new hinge because if the top bushing broke the door could have come off.
Next time I buy a washing machine, I will pay more attention to the line up of the door latch with the door catch.
Flashlight helped me line up the holes.
