Hello Larry, Thank you for your inquiry. It goes in from the side. For safety reasons, always discharge the capacitor before doing any working on the inside as even when a microwave is unplugged, the capacitor can still hold a charge. You can do this with insulated needle nose pliers, touch both terminals at the same time while being careful not to touch the metal part of the pliers. We have found general instructions for replacing the magnetron for GE microwaves. Uninstall the microwave from the cabinet. Remove the bolts holding it to the mounting bracket and set it on a level surface. Remove the glass tray and support to keep it from breaking. Use a phillips head screwdriver to remove the two screws securing the vent grille. Open the oven door, then slide the grille to the left and lift it up to remove. Tip the microwave so it rests on its back panel. Release the bottom panel by unthreading the mounting screws. Disconnect the wire harness, and release the wires from the twist retainer if there is one there, and you can fully remove the bottom panel. Return the microwave to its upright position and remove all of the screws securing the cabinet and remove it. You may need a T-20 torx screwdriver to remove some of the screws. The magnetron is on the side, you can disconnect the wires from it and use a phillips head screwdriver to remove the mounting screws and detach it from the bracket. Disconnect the wires from the thermal protector-which looks like a thermostat on the side of the magnetron. Remove the screws to release the thermal protector bracket from the old magnetron and transfer it to the new one. Confirm that the seal is in place at the base of the antenna, then reconnect the wires to the thermal protector. Position the new magnetron on the mounting bracket and secure it with the screws and reconnect the wire connector. Confirm that the power cord is secure in the bracket and reinstall the outer cabinet and bottom panel. Hope this helps!

I have removed the magnetron and was going to order a new one, but the metal housing directly above the magnetron antenna shows heating and distortion. Is it safe to continue to operate and will this affect the operation.

Hi Woody, Thank you for the question. It sounds like the appliance may have some other issues. I suggest checking the capacitor and the diode as well before using the appliance. Hope this helps!

Microwave was making unusual noise and there was smoke coming from top left corner of the micro before failing. The microwave is no linger heating. Other functions are ok. Is it the failure of magnetron? Unusual noise still persists but no heating.

I have this "GE ADORE" Model # DVM1850MM1BG microwave. Everthing seems to be working just fine, except it's not heating, but just making this humming / buzzing noise. Can it possibly be the magnetron, part # PS1019593 that needs replacing to bring it back into working order ? I have the complete Adore kitchen set and would like to keep it all matching, it's given us very reliable service for years.

Hello Patrick, thank you for your question. These symptoms can be caused by a faulty Diode, Capacitor, or Magnetron. Your microwave oven is capable of giving you a serious electrical shock, even when it is unplugged. We strongly suggest you seek the assistance of an appliance repair technician when conducting any microwave oven repair. We hope this helps.
