The temperature sensor, also known as the oven temperature sensor assembly is usually found in the back of the oven. The function of the oven temperature sensor assembly is to measure the temperature inside your oven while it is on and send the temperature back up to the electronic control, which adjusts as necessary. If your oven is having difficulty achieving warmer temperatures and/or keeping warmer temperatures up, you may want to test your temperature sensor. When turning the oven on it starts to warm and then a code f2 appears and oven shuts off

Hi Stephen, thank you for your question. If your oven is not warming, the oven temperature sensor is likely the problem, and replacing it with this part will solve that. The F2 code means there is a problem with the temperature. If you'd like to do more research before buying a replacement sensor, you can test the sensor with a multimeter (make sure the range is at room temperature, unplugged, and disconnect the sensor first). The sensor should read about 1100 ohms, if it is off, replace the sensor with this part. I hope this helps with your repair!

My electric oven does not heat to the set temperature. I set temperature pre heat to 350 degrees. Display on stove control panel will show 350 degrees after pre heat but the thermometer that I placed inside the oven only reads about 225 degrees.Then I let the oven cool off and set the preheat to 250 degrees display show 250 degrees after preheat but the thermometer that was placed inside oven did not rise at all. Object got warm but I could reach in with bare hand and take it out. Guess I have a problem. What might it be?

Oven starts warming and gets to about 250 degrees and temp stops climbing (set to 350 degrees). Is it the element or the temperature sensor that may be bad?

After setting the temp on the oven, it will indicate it is up to the set temp but is actually 20-60 degrees cooler than indicated. Does this sound like the temperature sensor? Thanks

Hi Carol, thank you for your question. There are a few parts that could cause this issue in your appliance. First I would say test your elements with a multi meter to see if they are working correctly or not. They should be reading between 0 - 50 ohms to be working correctly. The other part you should check would be your oven temperature sensor. That can also be tested with a multi meter and should be reading between 1000 - 1100 ohms. If those three parts are fine however, then the issue may be in your control board. I hope that helps. Good luck with your repair.

After installing new element. Oven gets to temperature but new bake element overheats and does not shut down

Hello James, thank you for contacting us. If the oven temps are not consistent then it could be the temperature sensor sending bad readings to the control board. You can test this with a multi-meter. With the sensor at room temperature, measure the resistance between the two prongs at the end of the sensor connector. The resistance of the sensor should read approximately 1080 – 1090 ohms at room temperature. If you get a reading that is far off from that, you will need to replace the sensor. Hope this helps!

Thank you for your question. I would actually suggest testing both your element and your temperature sensor first to see which part is malfunctioning. Hello my oven works when on broil but wont for bake took element had it tested it was fine also my oven light will only work when its on broil otherwise it goes out? How do i test the temperature sensor? Does it sound like thats the problem?

On "bake" as opposed to "convection" the oven will show the set temperature on the display but maintain a constant temperature 30 - 40 degrees cooler. So say if set at 350 degrees it will indicate that it has come to temp. I wai a few minutes and then shut it off and restart it and it will say say its only at 318 and will kick on to raise the temp. We have tried different temps and it consistently does the same thing. We have tried baking things (potatoes) and they take a lot longer than normal. Also tried an independent t-stat in the oven.

Actual temperature in oven was not consistent with the temperature setting
I am a 69 year old woman. I watched the Repair Clinic YouTube Video before I started. I then pulled stove away from wall and unplugged it. Took off oven door and removed the top oven rack. Loosened and removed the screw holding the temperature sensor located inside at the top center back wall of the oven. Pulled the sensor through the opening until the plastic plug came through. Unplugged and removed it and plugged in the new sensor. Fished it back through the opening. Replaced the bracket to the back wall of the oven and tightened the screw. Replaced the oven rack and stove door. Plugged it back in and moved it back into place. I turned on the oven and let is heat for over 30 minutes and the internal temperature was correct with the setting.

Oven Temp. went too high and the door locked. Burnt the food
This temperature sensor is very easy to replace. There are two screws inside the oven in the top middle of the back of the oven. Take these off. on the back of the stove there is a metal plate with 5 screws I believe. Take these off with a nut driver. Then you will see a white connector coming from the spot where you took the other screws off. Take the white connector apart and pull out the temperature sensor from the inside of the oven. Then put the new one in.

Oven is off 10 degrees
I changed out the sensor and still same problem. Change out Thermosat and still same problem. I call the help number and emailed the help but I got nothing but have to many calls because of the virus situation. Still need help. The oven did not get up to or hold the correct temperature
This should have been a very easy fix. But, as I tried to pull out the old temperature sensor, the wire would not come out. I was afraid to pull too hard because I did not want to break the wire. So, I coxed it out easily until I could see the plastic connector. Then, the old wire pulled free from the connector leaving the end of the connector inside the back of the oven. I then had to fish the end of the wire around with the piece of wire through the very small hole in the back of the oven. Once I got it close to the hole, I was able to grab the connector with some needle nose plyers. Connecting the new sensor and reinstalling everything was easy and the oven now works just fine.

F2 Error on Display
The repair was very easy to do. Our oven was showing the F2 error code, which is associated with an over-temperature fault. Upon inspection, the oven was warm, but definitely not beyond the temperature threshold. I researched the issue and found this temperature sensor. Swapping the sensor was extremely easy. You take off the back panel of the oven, unhook a single wiring harness, and undo some bolts inside the oven, which allows you to pull off the old sensor. Simply hook up the new sensor to the harness, pull everything back through, replace the fasteners, and you're good to go.

temp sensor in oven was failing.
I picked the least expensive and most likely issue with our oven that was not indicating a correct oven temperature. I am sure with a 15+ year appliance that the circuitry is on its way out but wanted to give this a try to avoid a new appliance purchase. Oven pre-heat setting takes much longer to finish with the age of the oven. However, after the new sensor the oven will maintain a more even temperature for the cycle.
Removal of the sensor from the inside of the oven is a bit awkward since it is located between the broiler elements at the back but a nut driver was the correct tool and worked fine. A bit stuck with the heating of the connection but pretty simple to replace. Must remove the back first to uncouple the connector. Simplest part of the repair.
At best a temporary fix for a an appliance this old.

Stove overheated with an F2 error
Removed screws holding temp sensor, pulled wire out from behind wall until found connector, disconnected old sensor. Measured resistance of old sensor and compared with new sensor, they measured nearly the same. Installed the new sensor and tested the stove. Came up to temp ok. No problem since, about 2 weeks.

GE oven showed "F2" error code and was over-heating
I am not the handiest person in the world, and this repair was easy even for me. If you suspect that the temperature sensor is the problem, do yourself a favor and buy this inexpensive replacement part and install it yourself prior to calling a professional who will charge a service fee just for checking it out. Pull your oven out from the wall so you can access the back. Unscrew the small nuts on the back to remove the sheet metal cover. Find the wire that goes to the sensor and unplug the plastic coupling. In the oven, unscrew the one nut that secures the sensor to the back wall of the oven. Pull the broken sensor out and replace it with the new sensor. Feed the wire through to the back and plug the new sensor into the same wire that was just disconnected. Reinstall all of the nuts. Do a "test cook" on some frozen food to ensure that the temperature seems correct (i.e., does it cook as expected in the recommended amount of time). The actual repair takes less than five minutes. I put "30-60 minutes" to account for unplugging the oven, pulling it out, removing the screws, replacing the screws, pushing it back in, and testing the temperature.

Heat sensor malfunction
Disconnect power, then remove racks from oven, locate heat sensor by the broiler element. Use ratchet with extension and correct socket to remove the bolt directly under the heat sensor, pull the sensor out till you see the plug, disconnect the plug and then connect new sensor to it push wire back thru and then rebolt the new sensor on, thats it...
