I used a nut driver to loosen two mounting screws, disconnected the wiring harness, and removed the ice maker. I transfered the level bracket from the old ice maker to the new ice maker and re-installed the new unit - connected the wiring harness and tightened two mounting screws. Once installed, I had to make minor adjustments on the front of the unit to get the ice maker to produce "full sized" cubes. Instalation took about ten minutes. Adjusting took 2 or 3 cycles of the ice maker to achieve properly sized cubes.

I noticed that the two gears weren't meshing together so upon inspection I saw that one of the gears had an inner piece missing making it weak so it kept popping out away from the other great. I ordered the new gear and unscrewed the old one off and put the new one on. So easy. It made Ice beautiful after that

This was the first time I ever installed a water inlet valve in a refrigerator. I viewed the Parts Select youtube repair video that is available online. In fact, I viewed it a couple times. Ultimately, the actual installation of the water inlet valve went exactly as shown in the youtube video. I did not experience any problems with the installation and was quite happy with the experience.

1. Turn off water in line to refrigerator. 2. disconnect hose from refrigerator. 3. Remove back cardboard panel at bottom of refrigerator. 4 Remove 2 screws holding in the valve assembly at bottom right. 5. best way I found to remove hoses (all color coded) is to cut with razor knife at the white collar. cut clean and square. 6. disconnect electrical (also color coded) 7. connect hoses to valve assembly by pushing hose firmly into hole. If you are familiar with PEX then this is the same. Reconnect electrical. Reconnect to refrigerator... 3,2,1 your done. It will take a couple cycles to get the air out of the lines.

Hinge bearing at the bottom of the refrigerator-side door died of old age--broke into pieces.

  • Customer: Michael from Columbia, MO

  • Time to Complete: 30 - 60 mins
  • Tools Required: Pliers, Screw drivers, Wrench (Adjustable)

I followed the instructions provided in the Part Select video and replaced the bearing. The most time consuming part of the job was emptying (and then cleaning) the items stored in the bins inside the door shelves. Removing the broken bearing was a little more difficult because mine was old and broken and I didn't have an empty table to lay the door on like the video studio did--the floor worked in place of the table.

"Popping" noise when opening the refrigerator door.

  • Customer: Alan from Plantation, FL
  • Difficulty: Really Easy
  • Time to Complete: 15 - 30 mins
  • Tools Required: Screw drivers, Socket set

I removed the food on the door and placed it in the refrigerator. I placed a plastic sheet over the opening of the refrigerator to keep the cold air in. Then I removed the bracket for the upper hinge, remover the door and placed it onto a table. Then I removed the plastic bearing from the bottom of door. I then replaced it with the new bearing. Then I removed the lower bearing and its bracket from the refrigerator. At this point I had to modify the new lower bracket by removing the alignment tab with a dremel because there wasn’t any hole in the housing for it. Then I attached the new bracket and bearing. Replaced the door and upper hinge and the job was complete. It took only about a half an hour to finish.
