Intermittent low-pitched whistling sound (about 450 Hz) coming from freezer compartment, VERY annoying to my wife.
Pulled fridge forward for access to rear of unit. Disconnedted 110 v. power plug, removed 3 self-tapping screws from the small access panel. Unplugged about 5 plugs from the defective Control Board, plus one grounding connector. Removed defective board by compressing each of the 4 nylon retaining clips (one of which was quite stubborn)with long-nosed pliers. Snapped the new Board onto the nylon retaining clips and re-connected all the plugs. Positioned the grounding connecter under one of the self-tapping screws, then tightened all 3 screws. Plugged the fridge back in, and voila! - no more whistling sound. Marriage saved.

Refrigerator & Freezer blowing warm air
After viewing Steve's How To video, I decided to order the part and do the job myself rather than call a repairman. I had the same issue a few years prior and the repairman changed the main control board, which fixed the problem. Turns out the job was rather easy, went fairly smoothly and I saved myself money that I would've spent on a service call. I would definitely use PartSelect.com again.

Refrigerator would not stay cold and freezer thawed out
My wife got on line looked up hotpoint parts, found this web site, navigated the possible solutions, ordered the part, and I installed myself. My wife could have repaired this part. I wish all repairs were this easy to repair, without calling a so called professional to do it. I am a do it yourself person, seldom call anyone to repair things, and I do get annoyed when I can't buy a part without going through a repair man. Love this web site and will definately keep this as my favorite web site. I JUST FOLLOWED THE INSTRUCTIONS THAT CAME WITH THE PART! VERY EASY TO INSTALL. Once the control board was mounted everything clipped together easily.

Freezer side was making ice, but then two days later, the ice melted and ran down the back of the freezer. The food in the freezer did not melt. But----drinks and etc. that was stored in the door shelves would freeze.
Watched the video on PartSelect before I ordered the part. Removed the screws from the back and unplugged the wires from the old part, installed the new part without any trouble at all. Took about 15 minutes. Was a BREEZE!!!!!!Thanks to PartSelect .T.C.Wall, Axton, Va.

Water intake to ice maker kept freezing due to slow leak in valve.
The process would have been fairly intuitive, and the part is designed in such a way that it is impossible to hook anything up to the wrong connecting point. PartSelect's on-line video of the repair was clear and easy to follow -- the perfect primer to review before I started the job. The first part I received was defective, and although it functioned it leaked water onto the floor. This gave me the opportunity to engage PartSelect's unparalleled customer service department for friendly and incredibly prompt correction. I look forward to my next appliance failure just for the pleasure of doing business with this exceptional firm.

Freezer staying in defrost mode for too long.
My Ge top freezer fefrigerator was going into defrost mode and the heater was staying on for too long causing the food to thaw and eventually refreeze. Originally thought it was the mother board but after researching and do some troubleshooting of my own I realized the defrost terminating thermostat was bad. $8 part from Parts Select. Accessed the evaporator by removing back wall plate. Located thermostat and cut two lead wires to it. Spliced in new thermostat and reattached to eveaporator. Refrigerator seems to be good as new. There is an installation video on the web page that shows you step by step proceedure.

Water constantly leaking from dispenser.
Instructions are excellent - no modifications. The problem was with determining what was causing the leak. GE, in telephone conversations, kept telling us to run several gallons of water through the system to remedy the problem, and suggesting we change the water filter (MWF). We discovered the remedy by looking through your listing of replacement water parts, till we found the commentary dealing with our problem. This is the second problem with the refrigerator solved by searching your catalogue and reviewing your demos. I'm afraid you have a customer for life (at least for the life of our GE appliances).
