Drive mechanism was deteriorated and crumbling
Cut a piece of coat hanger wire about 8 inches long and put up through the bottom of the blender so the drive mechanism wouldn't turn when I turned the old part (left-handed threads). Took the old drive off and replaced with the new part and was done. Took about 5 minutes.

replace coupler on blender
inasmuch as your instructions for removing old coupler show the need to pry it off with screw driver (indicating closeness to machine,) your instructions for installing new coupler should point out that new one will not be that tight but that there will be about an eighth of an inch separating it from blender base.

The tips of the drive coupling were worn out and some broken off
Once the proper set of needle nose pliers were used, this repair went very fast and easy. The instructions that came with the part seemed to assume that the coupling was a press on fit. This is not correct. The coupling is attached using LEFT HAND THREADS which makes sense since the blender rotates clockwise. The hardest part of the job was finding a pair of pliers that can hold the shaft below the coupling as there is no shaft lock short of taking the entire base apart. There is about 1/8" runout on the shaft if you pull it up so a small set of needle nose can get under the coupling. Use the screwdriver to gently pry up the coupling to make room for the needle nose. Use the needle nose to hold the shaft while turning the coupling CLOCKWISE to remove. When replacing the coupling there is no need to tighten it beyond hand tight as using the blender will tighten it automatically.

I watched your video and followed your instructions
I lifted the part off the base of the blender with a regular screwdriver -- I just put it straight under and then while it was under I turned it to the side so it lifted the part up -- it took less than 5 minutes .

Teeth were missing from drive coupling
Working in a 360 degree circle with a screwdriver around the bottom of the drive coupling let the old coupling unscrew with little or no effort, and the installation of the new coupling simply screwed onto the drive shaft. The instructions that came with the part describes this method and it worked beautifully.

Coupling needed replacing
KitchenAid Blender drive coupling. Your instructions were good but incomplete.
When you pry off the old coupling you need to inform customer that the rubber portion of the coupling may come off leaving the metal portion on. When this happen, you need to say, “You could still pry off the metal portion”. This could be done without the fear of damaging the threaded shaft.
Or
The best thing to do is to provide the tool that will fit on the drive shaft. Then you could turn the coupling clockwise for removal. Then the need to “remove any metal shavings” would not be required.
I made my tool out of an open-end wrench, to work in the replacement.
