12001302 Maytag Ice Maker - Instructions

Removed screw from bracket on bottom side of unit then loosened the two screws on top side. Lifted unit off the two upper screws unpluged wires took cover off and removed ice arm, reinstalled all on new unit and installed it back in freezer. Did this in less than 10 mns.

This process actually took 3 tries to resolve. Read the entire article it may save you money.
Before each trial I shut off the water and unplugged the refrigerator.
Trial 1
I went to the website and chose the part that had the highest percentage of resolution (78%), which was the actual icemaker. I followed the direction that another person described in detail how to replace. It was easy but it wasn’t the solution. It took me 15 minutes to switch out using a screwdriver and a nut-driver. Turned on the water and plugged the refrigerator in. However, after doing so I still had no ice.
Trial 2
Next, I tried replacing the small water pump that pumps water up to the ice maker. The part is called
the “Double Outlet Water Valve”. Here again on the premise that it was the next highest percentage part to fix my problem. I replaced this part in about 15 minutes with an adjustable wrench and a knife. This time a turned on the refrigerator and water squirted out of the plastic hose that feeds into ice maker’s water feed tube. Still no ice.
Trial 3
The last part to replace was the water feed tube which is a vinyl tube that extends from the outside back of the refrigerator to the ice maker. I read that if water shoots out of the plastic hose that attaches to the “Water Feed Tube” is most likely frozen. So, I replace the “Water Feed Tube”. I disconnected the plastic hose in the back and took some pliers and pulled the “Water Feed Tube” out from the back. It was frozen solid. I cut the new “Water Feed Tube” to the same length and inserted it into the back of the refrigerator. I will most like not go in all the way until you guide it in to the icemaker from inside the freezer. I used some good clear silicone caulk around the outside of the “Water Feed Tube” and attached the plastic hose to it with a small clamp. I was done in about 15 minutes. I plugged in the refrigerator and I let the caulk fully dry for 24 hours. Then I turned on the water. Within the hour I had ice. Finally!
What I determined was the “Water Feed Tube” froze up and caused the “Double Outlet Water Valve” to fail. So, it was necessary to replace both but not the ice maker. What happens in the process of making ice is as the ice maker cycles it calls for water from the “Double Outlet Water Valve”. You should first check to see if the “Water Feed Tube” is frozen. Remove it, use a hair dryer to thaw it out. Reinsert it and re-clamp it to the plastic hose. If that doesn’t resolve your problem or you find that it wasn’t filled with ice, make sure the “Double Outlet Water Valve” is pumping water to the ice maker. If it is, then, replace the ice maker. If it isn’t, replace the “Double Outlet Water Valve”. In other words, don’t go on the percentages. Go on the cheapest.

Pulled out the fridge, emptied the freezer, followed the video, which was very helpful. I watched it three times.

1.Pull refrigerator out from wall and unplug. 2.Turn the water source off! 3.Remove one screw from bottom and loosen two screws at the top of the ice maker. 4.Pull ice maker down and unplug the power connector. It has 2 locking tabs so press to release the lock. The water tube will pull out on it's own.5. Remove the cable, front cover and clips from old unit and install on the replacement unit.6.Re-Install new ice maker in reverse order. Always a good idea to take pictures before you do changes in case you are not sure.

Changing the ice maker was easy as per video instructions. I did not shut down power during replacement. The new unit started making ice within an hour or so, however, the next morning, liquids on the refrigerator top shelf were freezing up! I lowered the frig temp set point one number, but the top shelf continued to freeze. My son had had a similar experience, and he suggested turning power off to the unit for several minutes. I turned off the breaker for about 15 minutes, then back on. The top shelf freezing problem cleared up, and everything started working like it should!

If you watch the video on PartsSelect that will give you a general idea of how to do the repair except mine was in a bottom drawer freezer. You have streach a little to get to the screws holding the ice maker to un-screw them just enough to lift the ice maker out.

New part arrived in 15 hours with regular shipping. Watched your video and had old one out and new one in, in 20 min and ice in an hour more. Fantastic!!!

It is a simple and quick repair especially if one is even a little capable. May take some extra care and thinking for one who is not but still should be fairly quick and without troubles. I am not happy with the product as it does not make ice even half as quickly as the original. Many have stated the first or the first few cycles are very long and then it became quicker and more normal. Its been a week and I also tried shut it off several times just to reset it. It makes ice wonderfully but takes forever. I've yet to have a full bin of ice. Even without using ice for a couple days or very little in a few days. I am considering returning it for this reason.

I never would have imagined that my husband and I could replace our ice maker so easily. We simply fired up the step-by-step video on my tablet, paused it as we did each step and voila! Usually there is a lot of cussing with any repair we do and I don't think there was even one cuss word uttered. Thank you for the clear and concise instructions!

Searching Google and Youtube produced trouble-shooting guidance to first check the water inlet valve which I did. I should have realized the valve was working since the ice-maker was trying to fill the trays. Additional advice recommended skipping all the other component troubleshooting and merely replace the old unit which I did. The big difference with the Amana appliance was the icemaker was installed laterally in the back of the freezer rather than longitudinally with the end of the control wheel positioned towards the front of the freezer. This created a tight fit in removing the old unit, especially since the wiring harness was extremely short. The latter made access to the plug release catch difficult. I used a small flat blade screwdriver and worked mainly by feel to release the plug catch. Persistent wrangling finally got the plug detached and the unit free. The water inlet hose also had a rear access orientation while the replacement unit had access was from the side. The hacksaw blade was used to cut a pre-outlined access to allow the hose to enter from the rear as with the old unit. Once the shut-off bail was transferred, wiring harness reconnected, and water inlet positioned and clipped into place, the mounting screws were secured. Within 24 hrs the first ice cubes popped and the unit has filled the ice reservoir. Keep in mind I just ordered the icemaker and did not need any other add-ons like a different wiring harness which seemed to work fine. Confirm when you order you don't need any additional parts. I followed the instructions shown on the YouTube video on the Parts Select site. I had to make a few modifications. There were two nuts that had to be loosened to lift the ice maker off the freezer wall. The mounting bracket had to be transferred from the old icemaker to the new one to align with the hole in the freezer to reattach. The white wire went under the clip was a black wire but it was easily recognized. Other than that it was very straight forward and I had new ice in a few hours. I would definitely do it again.

Replaced the ice maker. I have a 3 door refrig. It has a bottom drawer freezer. Remove the freezer door to make this much simpler. On my unit, the ice maker is installed with three screws, rather than one and two clips. Check before you try to pull it out. You should unplug the old ice maker from the refrig, leaving the wires on the old ice maker. It's much easier to remove the old wiring harness from the old ice maker once you've removed the front plastic cover on the unit. Both plugs on the harness have clips on them to prevent accidental disconnections. Be sure to find and press the clip releases before you pull on the wires. Nut driver makes this job easier than screw driver. You only need one size for all screws. I used the old ice maker bottom mounting clip rather than trying to bend the new one to shape. Much easier. My old ice maker had an extra wiring clip, which I moved to the new unit before the install. There is one wiring clip to hold the temperature probe, and another just to keep the wires neat. Letting the old ice maker front plastic cover warm up a bit before you try to pry it off for reuse is a good idea. Less chance of cracking. Two hours after the install, I had new ice in the ice bin.

Your video was very helpful and accurate. However, my freezer is a bottom drawer type, so I needed to remove the freezer door first. There were 4 nutscrews which needed to be loosened, and door lifted off. Now with the door off, and both baskets removed, access to the ice maker was easy like your video. Also, the freezer compartment was much more accessible for cleaning as well. In 2 days after replacing the ice maker, we have had 2 full batches of ice, with full sized cubes!
