12-2299-00-01 Tappan Wall Oven - Instructions

The oven igniter was working, the Sears repairman said by the phone the igniter was probley weak and not geting hot enough. Remove door ( 4 screws) Remove oven pan (4 Screws) remove burner sheld. remove lighter and cut wires. Install new. Remove storage drawer and splice new wires to the old at the back.

i followed some of the tips provided, and added a few of my own. unplug stove from electric outlet. open oven door, remove wire trays. remove the two flathead screws, holding down the oven pan, it should slide out easily. remove oven burner(looks like wings)only one nut holding it in place with 1/4"nutdriver. remove igniter, 2 nuts as well with 1/4" nutdriver. cut wires, leave a good length, and strip(2 wires). install new igniter, strip the 2 wires as well, trim to size, and with the two wire caps provided, make wire connections. tuck any excess length of wires away from igniter. re-install all parts the were orginally removed. plug oven back into outlet. turn on oven, and presto, oven worked good as new. saved a couple of hundred dollars doing the repair myself

I googled most of the problem I was having. When I would turn on the oven I would have the orange glow from the igniter but I would never get heat. I ordered the part off this website...it arrived the very next day!!! 7 months pregnant I fixed the problem!!! My oven works beautifuly!! Just in time for the holidays! I saved so so much money doing it myself. U to can do it, good luck!!

after reading other replies i was 100 percent sure that my igniter was the problem . just as others said it had a veryh dem glow . once i changed it the oven lit in about 5 seconds .very easy to install and saved at lease $ 400 on not needing a new stove. thanks parts select . com

From the front I cut the wires going to the old igniter and removed it. Then I stripped insulation back 3/8 of an inch. Using the ceramic wire nuts that came with the new igniter, I connected the new wires to the existing. Then I installed the new igniter and the job was done. I turned on the thermostat and the oven ignited quicker than it had for some time.

After finding your page and using your trouble shooting guide, it was easy getting the right part and the video helped a lot. Removed the over rack- removed two screws to remove the bottom- two screws to remove the burner. Clipped the two wires to the old igniter and removed the burner from the oven,removed the two screws holding the igniter and installed new one. clipped the wires to length and renistalled the burner. Using the two wire nuts supplied put the wires togather and reinstalled the bottom. Everything went well lite first try with no poof sound. Just in time for Thanksgiving cooking. Took the two nuts off that hold the igniter and cut the wires as per directions and used the wire nuts to put them together after I installed the igniter.was a piece of cake and didn't take 15 minutes to do.Oven works great.

First I'll say the instructions and comments from this site were right on, making it easy. I slid the oven out and unplugged the electric. Opened the door, took out the racks, took out the two thumbscrews at the back bottom and lifted the bottom plate up and out, and lifted off the heat guard plate. I could then see and reach the igniter pretty easily (the flashlight helped). The igniter may have been replaced before because there were already wire nuts on the wires. I unscrewed the two screws using the nutdriver and noted which wire (top or bottom) went to which wire inside. Unscrewed the wire nuts and removed the old igniter. Used the old igniter to determine where to cut and strip the new igniter's wires. Connected the wires of the new igniter using the wire nuts and put the two mounting screws in. Then just put all the other stuff back in (heat guard, bottom plate/two thumbscrews, racks). Plugged it in and started the oven. Got a small amount of "crackly" noise initially (maybe because the igniter was new) but that went away and it's been working fine and quiet since. Very easy (well, perhaps other than being on your knees, leaned into the back of an oven for a couple minutes). Well worth the effort.

My husband was able to easily remove the old part, and replace with the new ignitor. The wires were long, so he took the extra precaution of tying them away from the flame. It took longer to take everything out and put it back together than the actual repair..

took off bottom pan in oven and replaced ignitor

took drawer out, removed tin covers, found igniter and removed,snipped off parts to put on new igniter ,wirenutted old to new put back together ,we had ignition! all in all pretty easy job! detailed instructions that came with new part were easy to follow and precice

Removed racks. removed two screws in back of bottom shelf of oven.Do not know what type of nut or other fastener was on other end of those screws as they would not tighten when I put them back in. However they are in the holes and the shelf isnt going anywhere.The shelf lifted right out lifting the back up first and sliding out from under lip in front. easy access to igniter use a nut driver for this.In the bottom left corner there was a triangle shape cover that needed removed held by one screw. both wires had clip in style connectors that come right out.Cut these off with plenty of wire to attach to new wires with wire nuts provided with new igniter.Put everything back like the old came off. I used a little electrical tape over wire nuts.Closed oven door and tuned on oven and watched my wife begin to smile as the igniter turned red and oven kicked on.

The day after Christmas I searched the net reading various reviews, etc. PartSelect seemed to be the easiest site to navigate and offered How To's notes. Wednesday, less than two days later the oven igniter arrived. This was the third igniter in six years. The grandkids watched me intensly as I read the How to's and easily installed the new igniter. disconnected the (2) wires of old igniter from (2) wire nuts located under oven in back of bottom drawer, took out (2) mounting screws holding igniter assembly and held it together to new igniter assembly. Stretched out wires together and cut new wires same length as old wires, then mounted new igniter with same (2) screws and connected wires with new included wire nuts and replaced all other oven parts, turned on oven and had a nice TV dinner! :-) Extremely pleased with PartSelect. Ordered part on Tuesday night and had it by Thursday night the week of Christmas no less! Kudos to PartSelect! Great service!

Removed broiling drawer to gain access to the igniter. Remove igniter from mounting bracket, ,cut wires, attach new igniter wiring and reinstall the igniter on the bracket. Reinstall the broiling drawer to complete the job.
